how much boost can i run with this setup?
boostin280zx replied to boostin280zx's topic in Turbo / Supercharger
I was just sayin that i could tell it has more compression by just how it spooled in neutral (before it would only boost around 3 psi at redline and now it hit 8psi w/o reving past 5000rpms. True, it doesn't have anything to do performance wise besides that it is a tiny stock t3) . The turbo is too small and i'm gettin rid of it as soon as i replace my rear-end again and cv axles. -

Im running the stock t3 turbo housings w/ turboneutics internals. So its pretty easy to spool it up under no load. -

I already drove 200 miles on the motor and it feels awesome. it builds 8 psi in neutral. I has tons of bottom end power and feels faster w/ stock boost now then when i was running 15 psi at the track. Friday ill find out if it really is faster at the 1/8 mile. -

Flywheel bolts came in today so im gonna put the motor in early tommorow and start tuning and break in. Can't wait to get it back on the road again. -

I have been tuning it. I make sure im not running to much of a spark advance at high boost. The other motor never pinged or predetonated except that one time. I have no idea how much they shave off the head when they resurface it. It was only warped one time the other times i just got it resurfaced when i changed the head gasket. I think 8 or 9 psi with a good tune will be plenty of power. I haven't put my motor in yet b/c im waiting on flywheel bolts i ordered but i guess i shoulda just went and got them from the dealer. -
I melted a hole in my piston about a month ago so i put another motor together. I am using the N/A f54 block w/ the flat top pistons and the turbo p90 head that has been resurfaced 4 times and a stock 1.25mm sized head gasket. I have megasquirt ems w/ 550cc injectors and lc1 wideband. I'm not sure what compression this motor is going to be and what a safe boost level would be on this motor. I was running 13psi on the other motor w/ 25 year old stock inj's for awhile but a injector messed up and i melted the piston. Is anyone boostin with the flat top pistons and how reliable is it? Compression Ratio? Boost? I should have no fuel problems now.

My friend is trying to ms his 2000 vortec v6 and he cant seem were to find info on the types of crank signals it has. I f anyone knows where to get a tach signal and has a good wiring diagram it would help him out a lot. so just post back if neone has any info.

has anyone had there WB o2 sensor go out?
boostin280zx replied to boostin280zx's topic in MegaSquirt
This isn't a spike. THe gauge stays in the 50' and 60's the whole time im driving. I hit full 16psi w/ it sayin 60 something and the car never pinged or anything. I've did the fresh air and heater recaclibration a few times and still does it. The gauge is only a couple weeks old and the sensor is about 4 months old. My car was running really rich so i don't know if that mighta messed up the sensor. -
I have a lc-1 w/ the xd-16 gauge. My gauge reads 20.9 a/f when the cars turned off and fresh air is in the exhaust. When i start my car up it will show #'s in the 14's wich is usaually normal, then it will jump up to #'s in the 60's a/f. It also flashes error 8 now. It used to show error 8 when the sensor overheated but never showed the really high #'s on the gauge. Does that sound like i need to replace my sensor, or could it be a short in the wiring? And does anyone know if you could order or get the bosch sensor through autozone. I read somewhere and found a part # for the sensor used but can't find it know.

anyone know how to tell datsun trans apart

Thats exactly what i was looking for. -
anyone know how to tell datsun trans apart
boostin280zx replied to boostin280zx's topic in Drivetrain
thanks, i took the last trans off of a 1970 datsun 510. The guy i got it from said it was a 280z tranny and it looks just like 1 but i don't know if the 510 trannys look alike. I know they had to notch the floor for the 280z shifter to fit up in the car. Is there another site that shows some kind of way to tell what year the tranny is? -
I have 3 datsun transmissions at my house. I can't find a site on the different ratios and what year cars had what transmission. 1 tranny is out of a 82 280zx 2+2 it has L4 on the belhousing. 1 is out of a 76 280z and it has L8 on it. the other one has a L3 on it. Is there anyway to tell what year car the tranny came from or the gearing by the L3, L4, and L8 markings?

Would it be easier to lower the fuel pressure to 23psi so the injectors would only be about 400cc/min injectors? I have a rising rate fpr btw. Would it be alright to only have 23psi. And one more thing iv'e been wondering... If megasquirt knows the injectors size and knows how much fuel to squirt at what rpm and kpa, could I just take the vacum line off the fpr to keep it a constant fuel pressure and just make sure it is going to be rich enough on my fuel maps??
-
Alright, I had a really good tune with the stock injectors. It would rev up really quick and smooth with no sputter or delay. The fuel and spark maps were really good but started to lean out if i turned the boost up to around 15psi. I am running ms2 on the v3 pcb and have a lc1 wideband. I just installed some rc engineering 550cc/min injectors with a sx regualotor set to 43psi. My car wants to idle at a a/f ratio of 7.0 to 10.0. Ive tried leaning out the ve and afr tables and putting in bigger injector sizes to see if it would lean it out a lil but nothing really helps. The only thing that will bring it up to a 14 to 15 a/f is messing w/ the injector opening time. When i change it from 1ms to .8 it gets the right amount of gas but sputters when i try to rev it up. When i was reading up on megasquirt before i decided to build one awhile back i remember reading something about tricks for tuning. Stuff like messing w/ the injector characteristics to get a good idle but can't seem to find that site anymore. (my car idles really good, just dosen't like to rev smooth or drive as smooth.) Has anyone tuned a l28et w/ 550's before and should i still be able to use my ignition map for my stock injectors since that one worked really well with the stockers?

I have a r200 w/ 3.545 gears ready to put in my car but don't know it is going to slow my car down any. I could use the longer first gear to build boost i guess, and i have plenty of power to turn it so ill probably just put that diff. in for now. Im going to the track tommorow so ill get my time slip and compare it to when i do the swap.
-
I am thinking about buying a r200 w/ 4.38 gears. I have a 82 280zx w/ '77 trans. I need to know if anyone has a z that is geared this low and is still a everyday driver. I have the 3.90 r200 right now and it seems like it is revved up high when im going down a highway around 90mph. I dont have a tach and i keep forgeting to hook up my laptop to my megasquirt to see what rpm it is at.

I have a 82 280zx 2+2 car with a swapped in a 82 turbo motor. The turbo motor was automatic so i kept the na flywheel/clutch/trans. I know my clutch is a 240mm 1in 24t spline and the turbo is the same size. I went to the autopart store to see if the part #'s were the same for both cars and they weren't. So does anybody know if a turbo clutch will bolt on to a na 2+2???both being 240mm I already ordered the clutch below (the 82-83 turbo 515 ft lbs) http://www.horsepowerfreaks.com/price/Nissan/280ZX/SPEC/Clutches-Flywheels/Clutch_Kits SPEC Nissan Stage 3 Sprung Carbon Disc Clutch Kits Nissan 280ZX (74-78) 2.8L 2+2 515 FT LBS, 120507 Nissan 280ZX (81-83) 2.8L Turbo 515 FT LBS, 120509 Nissan 280ZX (74-83) 2.8L exc turbo, 2+2 345 FT LBS, 120532 0 I ordered the turbo one b/c the bottom 1 looked like they ment to say 2 seater non turbo and thats why the torque is lower

I just got my LC-1 hooked up 2. I have ms2 and in megatune the a/f gauge did the same thing. I had the inovate wideband slected. I changed it to the DIYautotune widband and it started working. Its still not letting me use af tables. I haven't tried changing the .ini file yet b/c i pulled my motor out to rebuild, so ill do that and see if it works.

I have a '82 280zxt motor in my car. Under igntion options what should i set for: "skip pulses", "Predictor Algorithm", and "Predictor gain". Should those be the same for every 280zx turbo? I also need to know what the " # of igniton events per cycle" should be around under after start enrichments. I had a good spark and fuel map made and it was set at 350 and it ran alright, then it started running really bad and i looked and it was at 45. Is their a set # for any of these things I have listed. I have ms2, mt2.25beta656 , and msd 6a if that matters for any of the ign. settings. I set all the stuff it says to when you run the msd 6a w/ ms2, but i can't find anything about those other things.

So if i get a Innovate LC-1 Digital Wideband Controller with the sensor ($200) from diyautotune, then i could use it with ms2? And then all you have to do is calibrate it in megatune? What is the cd-rom stuff it comes with for?
-
Can you just get a wideband O2 sensor from a '04 acura rsx type-s or any other car that comes factory with one and wire the signal wire to megasquirt? And if you can, where do the 5 wires go. I know how to wire a 4 wire o2 sensor, but what will the 5th wire be on the 5 wire wideband o2 sensors. And what components on the v3 pcb are for the o2 sensor input? When i have the simulator hooked up to my ms2 it doesn't read right, it jumps around on the a/f guage in megatune.
-
ok. Well now i need to fix my o2 sensor. I thought it was broken but i hooked my a/f guage up 2 it and it works. In megatune it stays at 2.8 or something like that. It never changes. I think it was warmed up when i was doing it. When i hook it up to the stimulator it it doesn't go all the way to lean and all the way to rich. I only stay on the lean side. I twist the nob and it skips a couple of dots and then stays almost in the middle, then when i turn the nob to bring it down i cuts off then 3 dops pop up. What stuff on the board is for the o2 input. I thought my sim was broken but it worked just fine on my v3pcb ms1.
-
Yeah, i wasn't going too, but when i order my ms1 v3 partial kit they sent me the ms2 daughter card on accident i guess.
-
Drove my car around yesterday finally on ms2. It runs a lot smoother than the stock ecu did. I was wondering if some of the codes from MSnS-extra would would work with ms2. I want to get the boost control things for spark retard and stuff that I had in msns-e. If i put the files from that into my car1 mtcg folder would it show up in megatune? And when you run dual tables can you have 1 table with 200-3500 rpms and 10-100kpa and the 2nd table have 3500-6500rpms and 100-kpa to 200kpa?So when the motor revs above 3000 rpms and sarts building bosst it will start reading from the 2nd table? I asked a few people about this at this car meet last night but they said dual tables are for controlling v-tech engines. Is that true or is that just dual tables on honda tuning stuff?

I just got my new ms kit in. I ordered a msI v3 pcb partial kit from Al Grippo and a v3 parts kit from digi-key. They sent me the v3 pcb and map sensor with the msII daugter card instead of the normal msI programed 40 pin prosseser. So I guess im gonna go ahead and run msII. Should i still have all the resistors and stuff i need or are the parts the same for both msI and msII??? Is anyone else running a 280zxt with v3pcb and msII? And is the tuning a lot better?
