  1. After looking at the new oil pan placement I happend to notice that the dipstick after the 200zr oil pan is in place, will not be going into the bottom of the sump. There is a small plug further back on the block that if knocked out could reposition the dipstick to go into the sump, I'll have to see how doable this is when I get the oil pan off. Just thought I'd mention it since it didn't seem to be mentioned before. Other then that, the tear down is going smooth and fast. I got the Cometic Headgasket today and it is really beefy. I got the same thickness as stock, but it has a steel core, and I doubt that it will blow without the rods coming out the bottom first. Waiting on the head studs, and timing belt so I can do everything in one day. Chris Rummel
  2. Well, I got the engine and tranny out today, the engine is now on my engine stand, and i have plenty of goodys to start bolting to it. It was a pretty full day, and I'm beat. I may start into it tomorrow. Looks really good, so far. Who ever had this car in Japan seemed to take pretty good care of it, all the fluids looked good, clutch was not overly abused, and had normal wear for the milege. Chris Rummel
  3. I'm using your excellent photos as a guideline, since he is doing a lot of the same stuff. greddy manifold, etc. I have him buying stuff in three seperate levels of need, the first one is all the stuff to go on the engine while it is out of the car, since like you note in your pics, it is stuff that is better done at that time then later, having to do timing belt etc. Stripping the clip is going very fast, I'll have the engine out before lunch on Saturday, and likely have the remains ready to chop up and recycle soon after. He'll likely be putting some of the stuff up for sale that he won't be needing. That's one of the cool things about putting this into an old Z car, no need for the power steering, or A/C and taking that stuff off, frees up quite a bit of room. Chris Rummel
  4. Hi all, I'm about to start the RB25DET swap into my friends 75 280z. We got the front clip home to my house tonight, MAN what a bitch!! I'm thinking next time I do this I'll be getting an engine tranny and harnness package. Will make off loading that puppy from the trailer a hell of a lot easier. The importer packed the clip on 4 pallets nailed together as a one level pallet. They did a good job, but with the pallets that far apart, it leaves all the clip weight in the center and makes moving it a pain. When i got my other friends SR20DET clip, they had it on 4 pallets too, but it was double layer and only one pallet deep, which made moving it with just one pallet jack easy. The way this was configured made it into an almost laughable ballet of pallet jack and engine hoist, trying to get this thing off the trailer and down my driveway would have been funny to watch if it wasn't busting my ***!! I think that I still prefer getting a clip instead of a motor package, but I thought it would be helpful to post this so if you get a clip, tell the importer to pack it only one pallet deep and just put it on a double layer. Anyway rant off, we pulled it off, and his rear sump oil pan arrived today too, so I can't wait to start tearing into it. Chris Rummel
  5. Dude, You ARE THE MAN!!!! That is pretty much the perfect wiring info, that is what people need, as far as what connects to what. This is pretty much what I did as far as sorting the wiring on my other swap. I did the a B6T into a festiva, and put the wiring in an easy to follow what goes where form. These connections should be pretty much the same on a 280z chassis as well, correct? Thanks for posting. Chris Rummel
  6. There is a vender on ebay that has them. Chris
  7. Thanks, I'll tell my friend, to get one. Chris
  8. Hi all, I'm putting together a list of stuff for my friend for his RB25DET to add while it is out and before I put it in the car. I'm looking to upgrade the Headgasket and saw the one from Cometic (sp) and wondered if it was any good. Anybody use one? Chris Rummel
  9. Thanks thats very cool, this is a very helpful board. Chris
  10. Hey, I'm in the market for a set of your engine mounts, It will be for a RB25DET into a 75 280z pm me a price and when they could be available. Chris Rummel
  11. I did a search for ricky wong, mounts etc. couldn't find anything do you have a direct link for ricky wong? Chris Rummel
  12. Hi I'm getting ready to do an RB25DET swap into a 75 280z for my friend, I'm posting this to see if anybody on here makes engine mounts or knows of anyone that does for a direct bolt in for this swap. I have very good fabrication skills, and could likely make my own, but frankly if someone is making these to sell, I'd just as well have my friend just buy a set and save us a bunch of time having me fabricate them. Anybody know? please post a link if you do, my friend is willing to pay probably about $300 or so to speed his swap along. Chris Rummel
  13. I'am in Baltimore and I'm getting ready to do an RB25DET into a 75 280z for my friend. This is my first RB swap but I've done the SR20DET into a 240sx before. I do this stuff as a hobby, so I'm not a shop but I could do it as long as the check clears. Chris Rummel
  14. The header design is based primarily on torque delivery. a 6-2-1 will have more torque down in the lower range and spread out over the rpm range. a 6 into 1 will have greater flow for more hp and the torque delivery will be more in the upper end of the rev range. So tri-y for more low end 6 into 1 for more top end. Chris Rummel
