  1. Now comes the reassembly, but here is a pic of my 72. Should have it all back together this week.
  2. Going to wrap in Gulf Racing Blue. Orange wheel centers and Orange side stripes. Doing a wrap is almost as much work as a paint job, but i do a few HPDE days a year at PIR and a wrap seemed more sensible. Carbon BAMF Flares from jdmflares.com 17x9.5 in front, 17x11 rear NOS fender mirrors will complete the look. You really have to take the car apart if you want to do it right.
  3. More pics of the progress. Was a big deal to cut the fenders. I was really on the fence about it. But. I have a vision in my mind of what I want the finished project to be.
  4. I decided to take my car a step further and bought some CCW wheels and wide ZG flares. I also decided on a new color scheme; Gulf Racing livery. Here are some pics of the progress.
  5. Hey all, a little update, lowered the car a bit and installed Mikuni's that i got from Wolf Creek Racing. Sounds and drives fantastic.
  6. So, i am having this dilemma as well. I really want to put ZG type flares on my car and want to go to the deep dish wheel that make the Z look so low and wide but i am not into the stanced out tire stretch thing. I have Rota 16x8's on my car now with Direzza Star-Spec 225/50/16 on it and they handle great. I was ready to pony up for a set of real Watanabe RS wheels in 16x 9 and 16x9.5 but i found there are NO tires out there unless you are planning to run full on racing tires. so, now i am researching 17" wheels. Seems like CCW's are the way to go there as you can spec your backspacing. Does anyone have some advice on this?
  7. The MSA roll bar fit fine and the quality is good but with these seats, i could not go back far enough and i am only 6 ft. I also could not recline the seats properly. In the end, i simply mounted the belts to the stock location on the body up above the quarter window. Gonna sell the roll bar now.
  8. I ended up yanking the MSA roll bar. Sparco R100 seats fit great but the roll bar would not allow seats to go back far enough or to recline.
  9. Putting some Sparco's and a rollbar in tomorrow. Will post up some pics tomorrow
  10. Went to PIR for a HPDS school from Cascade Sports Car Club and finally got some track time. Car worked great, but stock seats are a NO GO! Bought some Sparco's and a MSA Roll Bar. Will install next week. I'll post more pics after.
  11. I used the factory cable stops. I just unbolted them and cut the part i needed off. The tension of the cable holds everything in place nicely.
  12. I just finished installing the AZ-Car front Wilwood brake kit and the Silvermine Motors rear conversion on my 72 240. I also bought the 280Z 15/16 master cylinder from Edan at Silvermine. I have to say, Edan is a pro and when i had some install questions, he was very helpful. Silvermine's kit is absolutely top-notch. It uses the calipers and rear rotors (re-drilled) from the 2011 Ford GT500 Mustang. The 12" rear rotors are drilled and vented. You have to switch the calipers left to right due to the position of the E-brake assembly but the stock e-brake cables fit right up. You do have to adjust the cables to their max extended adjustment, but then they hook up no problem and work awesome. Because the calipers are switched, it puts the bleeder valve on the bottom, so you have to bleed them off the mounts. You HAVE to put a block or the rotor itself in the caliper when bleeding or the pads will close down to far and you won't be able to get it on the rotor. I made this mistake and the pistons extended and i couldn't figure out how to get them to retract. The trick to retracting these late model Ford calipers is the pistons have to be rotated clockwise while you are applying pressure. It is the only way. AZ-Cars front Wilwood kit is also superb and i went with the 12" vented and the 4 piston calipers. Bolts right on. I opted to forgo a brake proportioning valve for the time being and so far this sucker stops like my sportbike. I have not experienced any rear brake lock-up.
  13. Thanks Guys - Last weekend i found a nice R200 with a limited-slip from Steve at Z-Therapy. Side benefit was changing the gearing to better match the 5 spd. Car is unbelievable to drive; power, handling and brakes.
  14. I bought this car last November from my father-in-laws best friend from High School. He was not the original owner but i think the 3rd owner. I got tons of service records and even the original Bill of Sale from the Datsun Dealer in Salem, Oregon. Sold for $4420 new. Built 3/72 HLS30 74950 I did the interior first and POR15'd the floor which was in great shape. The Interior was Butterscotch and in poor condition so i decided to change it to black.
