  1. Ugggh, sorry for the late response, vacation got in the way!

Anyway, the back edge of the door panel that runs along the door lock mechanism area needs to be trimmed about an inch. This edge is a lot straighter that the earlier doors as the body opening that the door fits against has an extra lip to it. Hard to explain but if you look at your car door opening, you will see what I'm talking about.

    Joe

Thanks, I got a hold of the upholstery shop and they had trimmed the panels already. They placed the original on top of the fiberglass panels to make sure they put the clip holes in the right place and noticed they needed to be trimed. I'm glad those guys know what they are doing or I would be having to pay twice to have them upholstered. I'm having them done in black leather with gray suede center inserts. Will post pictures when they are done.

  2. Alainburon:

Where did you get those louvers installed in the lower portion of the front fenders? I really like those and would like to incorporate those on my 1971 240Z. Please reply. Thanks.

Those where on the car when I bought it. Sorry, I don't know where they came from.

  3. I have been looking around and I find 2 types of clips for S30's one is a metal clip which goes into a rubber cup on the door. The other is just a plastic clip that goes on the door panel.

Does anyone know if the metal clip with the rubber cup can be used on a 1978 280Z? I think those clips are for a 240Z but I wanted to make sure they were interchageable with the 280Z clips.

  4. Finally getting to the body work on my z. In hopes of getting it into flat black primer by the end of the summer. Started some disassembly today and had a question about the body kit i have for my z. My z is a 78 btw. For the msa type 2 body kit do i need to remove the bumper brackets, or will the kit fit over them? I already have the whole front tore apart, but have read on here how big of a job it is to take off the rear brackets. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Did you ever get this kit installed? I'm doing the front air dam on my 280Z and can't find any install pictures or instructions on how to install this properly.

  5. Really love the deletion of the drip rail. I believe your right, it will give a slicker more aerodynamic look. Glad you kept the flares - Are they metal or fiberglass? They add just the right amount of attitude. Keep up the great work. Very inspiring.

    Thank you,

The flares are fiberglass, I bought those about 20 years ago from Jim Cook Racing. I agree with you, they add attitude but not overkill like some others I have seen.

  6. I was told by Blake that I would not be getting gaskets or a refund for header gaskets, stating some BS about only having 19 orders and the deal was 20 orders. How this guy stays in business is beyond me....only after I threatened a Paypal dispute (for crediting me on the VB option he neglected to include) did I receive any sort of response from him.

I agree with you, I don't care to threaten people but that's the only way he replies. He told me the same thing about the gaskets.

  7. I had someone near Springfield yesterday and had them stop at 417 Motorsports to see if they could get my headers. Turns out there is only one technician working there and he says he knows nothing about our headers and to contact Blake on his mobile.

I then called Blake a couple of times and no answer as usual. I was frustated and txt him stating that I had a guy stop by there and he was not able to get any answers as to what is going on and if I drive from TX to MO I expect not only answers but either the headers or my money back. I also mentioned to him that I called FED-EX and no call tag was issued from his shop address and that I was tired of being feed BS, also that we need to get this sorted before things get out of hand.

He txt me back right away apologizing for lying but according to him the truth is that the merge collectors have been on back order and they just came in Friday. He says he was just trying to buy some time by telling me they were ready to ship. He mentioned that 78 LS2 Z has received his already and sent me a picture of RebekahsZ headers that are going out this week. (attached picture)

He claims I should have mine by the end of the week as well. I really wish things did not have to get to this point but when you call a business or it's owner for several weeks and get no reply you start to think the worst especially when the stories you have been told about your parts are not true.

It looks like only 2 of us are missing our headers now. We will see how things go.

  8. Well after taking some measurements and giving it more thought I decided to re-do the fuel tank. The first tank did not allow much room in between the differential and fuel pump/fuel filter assembly. Making difficult for maintenance.

It also was too shallow for the factory fuel sending untit as the unit would not reach it's intended travel therefore it would not give accurate fuel level readings.

This tank is now 28X18X10 and about 21.8 gallons and still allow enough room for dual exhaust. It will hang down 2 inches more than the other one but I'm OK with that.

  9. Well I finally spoke with Blake last friday. He says he has been trying to reach the 4 us that have not received our headers. Funny my phone never rang. I call BS on that one.

Anyways he claims he issued a FED-EX call tag that monday and he is waiting for them to pick up the headers. I know FED-EX picks up call tags daily or at the very least the next day.

It has been almost 2 weeks since the so called call tag was issued and guess what? Of course no headers.

I'm planning to make a trip to Blake's shop towards the end of the month if the headers have not arrived which I'm sure they won’t. This is a major inconvenience for me since they are in MO and I'm in TX about 11 hour drive.

For those of you that are still waiting for your headers, if you want me to pick them up for you and ship them to you I would need authorization to do so in writing.

  10. well I just tried the MSA weatherstrip kit and the precision door seals it came with still suck. I bought the kit in 2011 after they finally started selling them again. Its a 1975 280Z and the doors wont shut correctly. The seals are still being made too thick. The inner hatch seal also causes the decklid to bulge slightly when shut...ugh. <_<

I have done research about S30 weatherstriping for some time now and everything points to vintage rubber having the best kit. At $1300 for the entire kit I would certainly hope so. Most kits have some rubber that fits well but other pieces either are too thick or not thick enough. People complain about leaks and fumes in the car. I will soon find out since I have gone ahead and ordered the kit. I will post the results once I get bit fitted on the car.

  11. Is he the only person that works at his shop? Pretty terrible way to run a business if you can only ship when the owner is physically at the shop. Can't imagine why you would undertake this sort of thing if its that just to ship items that were already paid for.

I agree, I have no idea how he stays in business. I even told him to get one of his guys to box it up and get me weights and dimensions. I can issue a FED-EX call tag and have them picked up. That did not work either. If you can't trust your guys to box up headers god help us all.

I'm going to give it until the end of the month. If I don't get them by then I will just have someone drive to Springfield and get them.

  12. I finally got a reply from Blake via txt. He claims he has been out of town and will be back in the shop this week. Says the headers are ready and ceramic coated they have just been put to the side and forgotten. He says as soon as he gets back to the shop he will box them and send them out.

I have heard this before therefore I'm not too confident they will be shipped soon but I will keep calling until they do. Will keep you posted.

  13. I call everyday now, txt, email, you name it and no response either. I think he knows my number and is avoiding me too. Something must be up or why avoid me.

I have field crews traveling all over the United States I may have to get one of my crews to stop in Springfield and find out what the hell is going on.

If I make a trip myself nothing good is going to come out of it because I'm pissed now.

  14. Just got some pictures from the body shop. They have completed re-working the rear flares and removed the drip rails from the roof. That should give the car a good slick look. They found some unexpected rust behind the headlight vessels and one fender.

They are taking the car down to bare metal one panel at a time and working it as they go. I wanted to make sure there was no rust behind old filler that could surprise me later.

Ordered a complete weatherstripping kit from vintage rubber, dammm they are expensive. It looks like we are heading the right direction, slower than I would like but at least it's being done right.

157 labor hours and we are a long way from paint....ooooouuuuch.... Who said restoration work was cheap? :(

  15. Alain-I think what is important [especially as we on HybridZ-all about accepting differences] is that we each do what best fits our own needs & desires. I attended an HPDE last weekend with the BMW club [whom I instruct with] and a friend of mine was driving his 2011 Z06 and blew the engine-threw a rod out the left side of the block. Mentioned that to my tuner and he commented that he's seen the same issue with several of the LS7's in that the titanium rods, while strong, can break under 'enthusiast' driving and in the same sentence stated the LS1 is a much more reliable mill.

I would love to see more that have their LT headers installed with dyno info & driving impressions posted!

Your tunner is right, that's why I sold my Z06 and decided to go all out with an LS3 for my 280Z. I loved driving the Z06 but there are some issues with the car that are not perfected yet. It will be a while before I install my LT headers, sometime next year.

  16. FWIW: Keep in mind that I requested/have a conservative tune designed for durability & longevity. My goal is not maximum hp/tq but a tune which allows me to drive my z hard at the track or on the street without winding up in the shop frequently with a broken engine. Many times while visiting the shop that tuned my car I see other LSx powered cars that were broken due to [fill in the blank] and have no desire to join that crowd. Tuner estimates my car would see another 10 hp & 5 tq utilizing a more aggressive tune.

I totally agree, it seems like now days most people are just chasing dyno numbers and have no clue of what they are doing or what the numbers really mean. I'm after the same thing as you. Good reliable power through the entire power band not just peak number at readline like some people are and I could care less what the dyno munbers are. I had my LS7 Z06 tuned by LG Motorsports and never had any issues. I put down about 15hp less than what other tunners were getting but I never had any problems and I drove that car hard. My car pulled hard through the entire power band.

On the other hand some of my Z06 friends went the more hp to the wheels route with an agressive tune and had all kinds of problems. Check engine lights on from time to time, idle issues, car would stall in trafic for no reason at all, etc... The bad part is I would still beat them when we would race because my power was more linear and came on sooner. By the time their car started to pull they were just chasing tailights. So they were putting 15hp more to the wheels for nothing as they are getting beat down the quater mile by my car with less power and they have an unreliable car too. IDIOTS!!!!

  17. R200 CLSD subassemblies rebuilt, painted, filled with oil and ready for installation. Used 2 quarts of Valvoline synthetic 75-90 for LSD and one tube (7oz) of CLSD additive. Gonna jack up car tomorrow night and try to have all the old stuff off during this week so that I can start re-assembly next Saturday. Anybody know for certain which side gets the short CV axle? Otherwise, it is measure and trial and error for me!

The driver's side is supposed to be the short one from all I have read.

  18. I finally got some parts in that I have been waiting for a long time. The heater core hoses, A/C control face plate and knobs were ordered from Japan and are original Nissan parts. Nothing fits better that's for sure but hang on to you wallet. :(

I also received a new evaporator with expansion valve from a different source.

I replaced all the vacumm lines for the A/C system and fitted the evaporator in place. Now it's waiting time again.
