  1. Heres a couple of pictures of my dash that I made. I'm too cheap to buy a new one and did not really want to use a dash cover. This one is very light. I'm not going to use a center console so no need to come all the way down to meet it. The parts were laser cut.

  2. I have read alot about fuel cell venting on this site and of course most cells come with a vent as well. I'm using a SUMMIT cell (I know its not really a cell) and my question is do I need to vent it with a dedicated tube since the fill cap is vented? I am locating the cell/tank under the truck floor but as close to the underside as possible (spare tire well cut out), and dont have room for a vent and fitting coming straight up out of the top of the cell. I plan to use the bottom two fittings on the sump for supply and return. I will try to post some pictures soon.

Thanks for any suggestions about plumbing

  3. OK, I did search and I cant find a definative answer for where does my alternator need to move to and or do I even need to move it (for a S30 installation). It is from a 2004 GTO (5.7 L) and has the alternator lower on the drivers side.

I also understand that i need a F-body oil fan and pickup and dipstick? is this correct.

Anything else that I'm missing, any problems with the JCI engine mounts for this engine?

The GTO LS1 engine swap is a little bit of an odd ball so there is not alot of specifics out there on it and swapping it into a z

    Thanks

  4. Can any one else comment on bed liner on the inside of the car (floors and tunnel). What product works best, method of application, and how did it end up. I dont want a super rough surface that will be hard to clean, but I also dont want it slippery. I've seen some that are smooth with an orange peel like finish.

    Thanks

  5. Anyone have experience with Sparco Steel seats? They are a new road / track seat from Sparco priced at abour 300 ea. They look very nice, but I am not sure about the quality of them. Also the size seems perfect for the Z.

  6. Evan,

I think I will keep the seat, also it does not lay back anyways. Come on up to see it anytime, I'm on track to have it on the road by 2010!

Am still interested in anyones comments regarding the OMP seat and mounting.

  7. I guess I'll post this here as well.

I just recieved a OMP ECO seat (paided about 300 for it). I bought it because it was the most narrow at the "wings" compared to the other seats from Momo (start) and Sparco (sprint). The ECO was supposed to be 19.7 wide, BUT when I recieved it, it measured 21.25" makeing it wider than the other seats i was considering. Anyone else have experience with this seat or the Momo start seat or the Sparco sprint seat? I want to get the most narrow race seat I can to avoid hitting the doors and also to avoid that love seat look in the car...

  9. Might have to agree to disagree on this one.... The way I look at it, in simple terms is; imagine a rod pined on one end. Now if you push horizontally on the oposite end, toward the pined joint, the rod, depending in the initial angle realative to the line of action of the input force, will rotate either up or down. Now take the same rod and pull horizontally on it, regardless of its initial position it will center (move to a horizontal position).

Now all that said the benefit of this tendency may be small in relation to the other forces at work on the suspension during acceleration and brakeing.

  10. Anyone have experience with relocating the T/C rods so they mount in front of the front LCA on a S30. I ask for two reasons:

    1) This is what is done on the 240SX's and I believe on the zx

    2) Most importantly because it seems that (and describing it here will be hard) during braking with the stock S30 T/C location, as the front suspension compresses, and the LCA is loaded rearward (in reaction to brake force), and as the T/C is pushed on (compression) that the T/C rod would, depending on whether its intial angle was above or below horizontal, either cause additional drive during brakeing or front end jacking (raise the front end).

By relocating the T/C rod forward of the front suspension, brakeing forces would then to pull (tension) on the T/C arm rather than push (compression) on it. This pulling force during braking would then act to center the T/C in a horiznotal position and therefore the front suspension and assist in limiting dive under braking.

I'm sure this would improve / reduce dive under hard brakeing I'm just not sure how much.

  11. Anyone have pictures showing a custom grill on a S30? I'm looking for some more ideas, I've seen a few here and there on this site - but looking for more ideas. There doesnt seem to be a bunch of picture of this type in one place on this forum - so here goes....

    Thanks

  12. I have built a new front frame for my 280Z and am second guessing myself on the location for the front cross member (since its a new frame i must drill the mounting holes for the stock crossmember).

    kind of two part question:

    1) Where is the stock bolt hole location realitive to the shock mount (lateral and longitudinal) - I know Ishould have made this measurement prior to removal of the frame, but the frame was so twisted and dented I would not believe the measurement anyways.

    2) is there an advantage to moving this x-member forwards or rearwards on the car? I am installing a LS1 so I dont think I can move rearward any.
