Guys
I have just had some custom aluminum shocks made for my 240 by a local company. If you have heard of AVO shocks, well this guy is MR Avo! has now started another company and did a very nice job on some fully adjustable inserts. He also make double adjustables at a fraction of the normal cost. I doubt with the current exchange rate will help but if anyone wants to give me dimensions and spring rates I can get you a cost.
Cheers

Mark, I can get you a cost Friday as thats when I get the bill. I would imagine he will charge me somewhere near £180 so times that by 1.7 for a rough dollar cost.

Yeah will do, if you look at the strut it has been machined down to fit all the way down in the hub, it will then be welded (properly). There will be no chance of it falling out. The guy who is making them makes some serious stuff, these are like scrap metal toys to him!
-
It was just regular steel tube, machined to shape with a thread cut on the outside, a small disc welded on the bottom and a nut made to go in the top to hold the dampers secure. I'm thinking I'll get the next set made in stainless. Do you think there would be enough interest so sell a few sets? not for profit just to cover costs

My 240 had the larger OD tubes like fitted to the 280's, a guy I know took my struts, cut them at the hubs, borded the hubs out and fitted new steel tube with an outside thread cut all the way up. Much neater solution than welding slip on tubes over the top. It wan't hard for him to do, I think it was around $75 a corner and for that he made spring 2.1/4 spring platforms and the gland nut to hold the shocks in the tubes. Will post some pics if you'd like to see.
I also had some custom length fully adjustable shocks made....now these were pretty expensive. $735 for cash:o

Mine has unique customs built struts and shocks, fully adjustable aluminium shocks all round. Struts have had the tubes bored out of the hubs with new short tubes welded in place, also have thread up the whole length of the strut giving a very wide range for spring length adjustment. Body wise..ZG flares and 17"x9.5 3 piece split rim ultralites($2800) without tyres...255/40/17rear 234/45/17 front, fibreglass bumpers and spoilers on order. Will post some pics soon.

Nice thread, some good info there.
I removed my front struts and had a guy machine the old tube out of the hub, he then replaced the tube with a thicker section tube and cut a thread down the whole length and made adjusting rings to suit. Cuting a thread inside was no problem and he also made the shock retaining nuts. The shocks I'm using are custom made fully top adjustables.

The VIN number checksout , the only reason I had some concerns was another member explained that the car was a 76 not a 72 from looking at the advert http://www.datsun240z.co.uk/parts_sales.htm
Im looking/buying the car tomorrow if it all checks out. I have done a background check on it and its all good.

Yes I realise the cosmetic differences like bumpers, Pop n wood explained just what I wanted to know. Things like the door latch changes and chassis rails.
Thanks guys

Hi
I am about to buy a 240z 1972 and would like to know if there are any tell tale signs to body swaps?
I have searched and not found the answers I'm looking for.
I have checked the car details out and all seem to tie up but didn't want to get caught out and find that I have a 76 body with 72 vin numbers welded in! Are there any parts of a 72 240z body that are unique to that model?
Any info would be much appreciated.
Thanks

BTW the car in question is a 240z fitted with a 2.8, stage 2 cam, full performace exhaust, ported and polished head, electronic ignition and triple twin webers...220BHP!

I guess I have been a little boisterous in my remarks for a new member. I guess I've had one too many girlfriends, meaning I tend to snap at comments like "what if","you really should", "why haven't you" you get the idea
.
The funny thing is I have had SR240Z's car as my screen saver for a while so it was very nice to actually here from the owner. I would hate to copy someone elses car but I'm having a hard time on this one!.
SOT here but why do women find the cars that men think are gorgeous, ugly? ....Lambo's, Lanica Evo, Audi quattro(rally) to name a few. I wonder if Lesbians like powerful looking cars? no offence to females that bat for the other side....Respect!
Thanks for the welcomes/Info

But then again you Ausies are just a bunch of criminals!
Being upside down obviously gives you a different angle on things.
P.S only kidding!

Dave I didn't make a stupid comment about a Yank, a yank made a stupid comment.
I take it you think I am trying to insult the guy by calling him a yank,I wasn't trying to. I lived in the Staes for a few years and think its a great place to live. I made a lot of good friends. I do appreciate any info given I just can't see the point in leaving a post "use the search" maybe "have you tried searching?" I would answer "yes and I didn't find what I was looking for, this is why I am asking the question". I thought that was the idea....to share knowledge to help others in the Z community.
Other members here seem to have no problem in answering my question without making assumptions. He assumed I hadn't searched and I assumed he was an ***
fair enough!
As for a slap in the face, how can you say that when I have thanked all those that bothered to help.
I do agree that is far easier to search and read..which I did, I then asked here as I don't want to spend a few thousand $ and end up with wheels so far in it looks like an E-type from the back..before anyone with an E-type gets upset and post a sarcy remark...I spent a lot of time sat in the back of one as a child and think they are great cars.
Flame suit on!

Great I will give them a call, what height is your Z riding at?how much lower than standard?
Can you tell me the manufacturer of your front spoiler? Your car Looks awesome in the Gun metal/ Black colours

Thanks thats just the look i'm looking for!

Yeah I guess the correct spelling would helpmy search results
At least there is one person here that doesn't reply with a stupid smart *** remark! I pick the car up in 2 days, $2400 is not a lot of money....$ is very weak compared to the £
I did search and found a very little info on offset/wheel dimensions, I joined this group thinking people with similar cars/interest would be more than helpful...wrong! If its so hard to reply then don't bother, It probably takes more of your time to think up stupid tool shed remarks than it would to answer the question in the first place....Huh!!!
Anyway lets move this back out of the "tool shed" shall we and stop acting like kids in the playground!
I guess you Yanks can get some pretty good stuff out there, not much available in the UK

Hi Guys
I will shortlybe the proud owner of a 240z,my first and have a question about wheel sizes/offsets.
I am going to buy some deep dish R-type wantanabe's and was wondering what sizes will fit stock arches/ flared arches. will probably add the flare kit but would like to what my options are.
I would really like to fit 17's x8 all round and want the to sit just inside the flared arches. I can calculate the offset if some one with wider wheels has some detais. Also where do I order them from? I'm located in the Uk.
Any info would be a great help
Thanks!
