Thanks Lone for the information. I will use the old T10 bellhousing, and put a 1 " thick spacer plate between the T10 bellhousing and T5 gearbox. This should result in that I do not have to change anything else. There can be some problems with the driveshaft, but I believe that it will work. Hope so at least...

Well, I changed my mind totally and did go with a spacer plate. The reason is that I believe that I do not need to change almost anything else. I will also use the 240Z hydraulic clutch in the T5 (with some modifications of course). Thanks for your help guys again.

Thanks for the information The engine in my 240Z is a '67-69(?) Mustang, so there should not be any problems with the bolts. OK, so I'll have to check the flywheel, that it is the 157-tooth. And then there is the thing with the clutch. Thanks Mike for the offer I will mail you about the kit. Is it easy to install the kit?
-
Can you guys tell me if a T5 from Mustang '88 fits a '6? 289 Mustang engine? Thanks in forward.

Hi, I would also like to read your text. I have already a 289 Ford in my 240Z but it is always interesting to read about different kinds of swap-solutions. Thanks, Kim

I have to see this monster live! Someday I will travel to your country and I hope to have the chance to see this car. Enjoy the ride, Scottie

I have a 302 with a 4-speed manual in my 240Z. The R180 didn't like the combination and was wasted. The new R200 feels much better, and should deal with the V8-power. It's probably a slightly different situation with a 5-speed transmission. Kim

I have seen this car in a sportscar magazine a couple of years ago. I have to check if I still got the magazine. I think there was a 4-page story about the car. The rear fenders are from a Porche. Kim

That's what I call a good looking convertible! I have never seen this car before. Is the owner one of the members here in HybridZ? Kim
-
Yes, you are probably right about the speedo-cable. It ain´t so hard to have that kind of cable custom-made.
-
It would also be grate if it would be possible to buy the speedo-cable with the Ford-swap kit. Kim

I believe that the main problem is with the clutch and the flywheel. I haven't ruled out the clutch yet. The R200 diff is OK, I am sure about it. But as you say one problem could be that the diff nose strap ain't OK. I believe I have to look at that first and then repair the clutch and flywheel. I saw that Motorsport Auto is selling Steel solid diff mounts. Do they fit the R200? And how much do it effect on the driving? What could be the price? Kim

I've got to make a stupid question here. Why does the rear wheels start "jumping" in my car when I put on reverse and try to move the car slowly. At the same time there is some "metallic" noice near the diff, but I think it is the diff which jumps so it contacts the exhaustpipe. I know that the diff is OK, becouse I swapped it from a R180 to an R200 a couple of weeks then. Is it the same problem as the problem discussed in here? Or do I have a problem with the gearbox and the clutch? My car is a 240Z -72 with a Ford 302 + B&W T10 and the diff is R200 from a 260Z. Kim

Thanks guys The engine is from a ´65 Mustang (289 block). It is 030 oversize and has a stiffer cam shaft. The carburator is a Weber. The car has been in a old barn for several years. I heard some rumors about the car and that it was for sale. So, I called the guy A.S.A.P. The car was totally covered with dust and dirt. It was like to find a tresure! I have worked with a lot of electrical problems, changed the diff from R180 to R200 (the old diff was totally busted!), cleaning the interior, body and engine, installed the electrical fans... My intensions are to paint the body this winter, upgrade the brakes and hopefully change to a T5 (the diff is 3.7:1). I have only tested the car a couple of times. At the moment the car is in very many parts It is good to have something to do when it gets -30 celsius grades outside Kimi [ October 21, 2001: Message edited by: Reaper ]

I promised to put some pictures of my Z on the web. If you are interested in seeing a Z+V8 from Finland, check this link: http://www.sunpoint.net/~zkerho Go to the Galleria-part a choose 240Z-280Z. There you should find pictures of a black 240Z with a 289/302 Ford. I have a T10 gearbox, but I want to install a T5. The engine is old, but works. The car is lowered and has a stiffer suspension. Z-cars are pretty rare in Finland and it is almoust impossible to find information of Z+V8 here. HybridZ has been a great place for information for me. Thanks guys! Take care, Kimi from Finland

To Owen, Yes, we have the whole website in Finnish but we will make an English version of them in the near future. Under "Tapahtumat" (=Meetings) you find our first meeting last summer. We will have a new meeting in next summer, and are expecting about 30 Datsuns / Nissans. I will put a link to some pictures of my car in next week here. To Mikelly, OK, I will contact Mike Gibson about the brake upgrade kits. Thanks for the advice
-
OK, I think that I will not buy those 300ZX -88 brakes. The original brakes in my 240Z works fine at the moment. I will wait ´till I can buy a real upgrade kit. Where can I buy / order brake upgrade kits? I live in Finland so it is kind of hard to find parts here to the Z. PS Check out our Datsun Nissan Sportscar club of Finland -webpage: http://www.sunpoint.net/~zkerho It is still under construction, but we have about 50 members already. My own car will come to the pages in next week.

I got almost the same problem as Nick. I have a ´72 240Z + Ford 302 and I would like to upgrade the brakes. I have a friend who could sell the 300ZX T -88 (Z31) brakes cheap. Is it possible to fit those brakes in to my car? Or is it easier to take the brakes from some other car and put them in the 240Z?

Yeah, talk about hard to drive. At this moment the diff is 3.9, the gearbox is a Borg-Warner manual 4, the clutch is almost busted and the engine runs great. Great combination Someone had a lot of extra tires when they built this car
-
So, now I have a new question about gearboxes. An another friend to me has a 302 with T10 gearbox to sell. Could this manual 4 gearbox fit into my 289/302 Ford engine? The differential in my 240Z will be a R200. The ratio is at the moment 3.9, but it will be about 3,6 - 3,7. Can I drive with a 4-speed gearbox in the car, or should I have a T5? The only problem with a T5 is that it is really hard to find a gearbox like that in Finland. And if you find one, it will cost about the same as the car did
-
Thanks! I hope they deliver products to Finland also. Now I have to find me a T5. It ain´t an easy task here in Finland
-
OK, I now know that my question was kind of stupid. The 300ZX -88 gearbox won´t fit. Now I have a new question: the engine is an old 229/302 Ford. Does that mean that the Borg-Warner T5 won´t fit instead of my manual 4 Borg-Warner?
-
I wonder if it is possible to use the Nissan 300ZX -88 gearbox instead of Borg-Warner manual 4. I have a Ford 302 engine at this moment in my 240Z -71, but the gearbox is not in good shape anymore. My friend has a 300ZX gearbox to sell. I would like to install a Borg-Warner T5, but if the Nissan gearbox can be swapped with the Ford gearbox, it will be cheaper. Sorry for my bad english, I come from Finland, Europe.
