  1. It will rub at the front of the rear fender before it rubs at the top. Get a fender roller and roll it - right Yasin? ;)

That is correct K!!! Mine rubbed ****really**** badly at the front of the rear fender before the top...I ruined a perfectly good set of brand new Yokohamas (swiss cheese!).

  2. All while I had my Z31s, I was jonesing for a (decent) S30. I finally found one and now I'm getting rid of the L dinosaur for the VG (dodo bird). I got rid of those Z31 boats.

I hear you Bloz..while the Z31 Turbo may not be the fastest thing in the world right now and V6 Camrys can humble them (who would have thunk), they are plenty quick to commute maybe 1-2 times per week to work. They just look great, are solid, well proportioned and a perfect all rounder. I would love a clean one, that I would put an beautiful hand made exhaust on, turn the boost just a notch (and maybe an intercooler)..I love the factory 16-in wheels and the factory ride height.

  3. As of late I am aching for a nice clean Z31 Turbo ('84 Anniv. Edition, Shiro or an '87-'88). I sadly missed a really nice adult owned '84 AE Turbo local to me in Houston, but have been scouring the classifieds, Craigslist, eBay etc frequently. I really feel these cars are coming into their own and when I compare them to the MA70 / 7MGTE Supra or the FC3s Mazda RX7 TurboII (both great cars), the Z31 Turbo seems so much more appealing (also love the look and styling of the Starion \ Conquest ESI-R but hate the TBI and the 2.6L 4 cylinder engines in those cars). Don't be surprised if I report back in with a new addition to the family (when I should be using that money to fix-up my house...laughing!).

  4. Ron - That car I am 100% guessing was a 280SL to begin with. As a by the way Mercedes starting putting the letters before the the numbers in 1996/7 (280SL vs. SL280 for example) and this car is easily as pre-1986.

Yeah that's one way to waste an engine on a car that easily weighs damn near twice as much as a Z...

My dad has a 280SL in the R107 body style and it probably makes pretty similar power to an L28, and it's not what I'd call fast by any means.

A much better swap is a Ford 302 into those things so it can actually go somewhere.

I would not jump to such a hasty conclusion...it is a cool engine swap...if you took time to notice this engine has individual throttle bodies, full engine standalone and I bet high compression, head work, a worked exhaust and a hot cam..on other words this baby will easily put down a cool 250whp and not break a sweat...the MB 2.8L could never run with this particular L28.

Personally..I like it..great \ tough stance and the Wantanabes look great too.

  5. zip, thanks for the response. Why to a Canadian buyer? Because there aren't as many examples in this shape available to them? I'll try to get an engine shot soon.

    Any other opinions?

That is correct most Canadian S30 cars have long rusted.

That is an easy $4K car but need to poke under the car and look at the rust on the floors and frame to be certain.

  6. This is where I placed mine. Oil cooler is made by Permacool. Lines and fittings are -10 and I am using a Permacool thermostat and oil filter adapter kit that threads to the block. Not a cheap set-up but a very effective set-up and I also have an Auotmete oil temperature gauge mounted in my dash.

  7. Those are Boyd Coddington wheels, and they are from the 1995-1998/9 vintage, I can tell that from the center caps over the lugs. I like the lip but the centers are very dated and not my style. Those wheels were very expensive brand new. I have had Boyds make a custom set of wheels and the quality is good, but expensive and the wheels will fold if you just "look" at a pothole or raised manhole cover.

  8. I wish that was the case with a coilovered S130..I had nothing but expensive and tedious issues with my 9.5" wide -19mm Rotas...it worked out in the end but what an effort.

the rotas require NO mods....on stock suspension and even on "lowering spring" cars, its when you go lowww or depending on what tire size/brand you run, but a fender roll will solve any type of slight rubbing.

275-40-17 on the 9.5s was no problem on many of the zx's ive put them on

  9. Rent a (smallish) house Aux with a garage, might be a little more outlay of $$$ but you can give your Apt complex and their HOA the middle finger. Heck if things are going solid with you and your GF she could move in, you guys could share some bills and you may wind up SAVING some money!
