Back from the salt, We bumped our 202mph record up to 207mph. I was hoping for more but it didnt happen this year. I met one person from the forum out on the salt but i dont recall there name. we learned alot and we will be back next year. broke a crankshaft in half. I will post some photos when my friend sends them to me.

Very nice.

Theres a guy on TTFs thats running two of those on a bonneville car
actually just found a video
800ish hp on two of them so its safe to say around 400hp single.
have fun.

does a '78 280z driveshaft work on '79 zx? both 5 speed cars... i wasnt sure if the diff flange was the same and the legnth of the shaft itself was the same legnth
thank andy
-
Man i love this car! i thought 280zx were alright until i saw this one and your work is super, keep it up things like this get me inspired.
Thanks for the support!.
I'm in the process of moving to a new house so the cars on hold for another month or so.
The new house has a 4 car garage so ill have plenty of room to work on the z.. im pretty excited

2" or 2.25" sounds good also
-
.
.
.
2.5" into WG 2.25" out
i turned the WG outlet flange down until the 2.25" tube sliped over it. about .080 thou.
seems like overkill but id really be surprised if i have any boost creep issues...
all done with the hotside now.
I'll have to tilt the radiator forward more than i wanted but i think it will be ok.

i think theres a guy on theturboforums.com thats running two of those on a bonneville car
actually just found a video
1200hp on two of them so its safe to say 600hp on 1?
have fun

doesnt look too bad... id take the housing off and lightly sand the edges of the wheel and run it..

post some pics so we can see whats going on..

man the exhaust gas that turbo is pushing is gonna send you flying to the left with a huge dump like that if it comes out of the fender right where the battery tray is. LOLOL. plus, if you hit a rev-limiter at the stop lights, you may be able to burn the hair off the face of the driver to your right. hahahahaha.
But i can see that it makes a turn downward, through the fender well.
My only question would be why you did not lower the turbo some 1 or 1.5 inches once you finished the exhaust piping. it looks like the collector is quite large and could be dropped a little to reduce hood deformation that would cause some aerodynamic issues for the speed you want to hit.
I wanted to be able to leave the radiator in the stock location, which i did. If you look in that pic i cant really go down much further.
I could have cut off the overhanging part of the t6 flange and brought the turbo down another inch or so. then the scroll of the turbine housing would be awful close to the water pump pully and belt.
I didnt really know the turbo was going to be sicking out the hood so much.
Probably should have just moved the radiator forward to fit the turbo out and lower... oh well next time...
launch conrol with megasquirt should be pretty interesting... BANG BOOM POW FIREBALL
-
It would probably work better with an actual air/water intercooler instead of an air/air intercooler.
why? only thing i see is the pressure drop is greater than a a/w core...
-
heres how i made mine
-
It should come in around there but it depends on your cam, a/f, timing, ect. Put the waste gate as close to the merge as you can. Mine should have been closer as I get alittle creep at low boost. It holds anything over 10 pounds excellent though so I'm not changing because I'm not going lower than 15.
Good to know
thats what i was afraid off, boost creep... ill do what i can to get it close to the merge that i can.

I wonder instead of trying to fab up another full piece of sheet metal, if you could take another hood, cut the "hump" out, and put it on top of the existing "hump" to further raise it and make the "hump" appear to grow
thats not a bad idea.

My turbo was a s472 with a 1.22 a/r. I recently put smaller heads on (canfield 195 cc's) and a s475 with 1.10 a/r. I spooled it up to 8 pounds on the foot/ebrake no problem just under 3000 with the s475. You should have full boost by 3500. And my cam isn't that big. Just has .601 lift with 1.6 rockers. the duration is mild.
the most mph I got in the 1/4 was 141 with the smaller (s472) turbo and brodix heads. With the weight of the car (3260 give or take 10 pounds) it comes out to around 628 rwhp.
Hopefully with the smaller heads and s475 with the 1.10 a/r and bigger turbine wheels it will be alittle more. I've found out from talking to a couple guys that heads don't matter TOO much with forced induction engines. It seems just as fast as before, but the track will tell once I get it to my standards. The reason I say more hp with the new combo is because my air fuel won't be in the 10's before boost.
Nice headers
Thanks for the reply dustin, your the resident expert.
You think this 1.32 a/r will come in by 3500rpm?, man that would be sweet!
How do you like your WG setup? i was thinking of doing the same.
-
Thats insane! I dont know what to say. Nice work!
thanks when i walk into the grage it still a shock of how big the dp is...hehe
-
Nice job. You shouldn't have too much trouble spooling that turbo. It's the equivalent to a GT42, and on a medium displacement engine it should work very well.
How much power do you need to make?
whatever it takes to go 200 at bonneville,..
.. i was reading a thread on theturboforums.com last night and a guy had a built 383 that made 970whp with the exact turbo @20 psi.. pretty amazing for only 75mm.
btw heres a more recent pic, the down pipe is finished

I'll see if I can meet up with you at the ElMirage meet in November for the season-closer, if I ever return from Asia!
You can put the chest like that, and pack it, you should see if you can take a look at the Liggett setup, or the setup they run on the Sundowner.
For your application it will work fine. You might want the weight a little further backwards, traction will be an issue above 140, even with a puny F/GPRO N/A engine!
(Car #220)
We might have the car back up there by then as well, I've been corresponding with Andy, and we are trying to get our schedules back on synch so we can make some passes and figure out the G/GPRO class once and for all (Got F/GPRO already...)
very cool.. if i see your car i will def look for you.

Id do a hump rather than do a raised hood, just my take on that.
Agreed.
-
What are you going to do about the top of the turbo there? Looks real nice through out the car..
A friend of mine has a english wheel and hammer. I think ill have a wack at making a bubble to cover it and weld it on...
OR a cowell the hood but might not look that great?

Are you sure you have a big enough turbo?
What size is that monster? I am using two 60-1 on an LT1 build. They will peek out the hood the headers just got ceramic coated today so hoping to get progres in a couple weeks.
What hp are you shooting for?
75mm borg-warner S400. has a really wide compressor map due to the extended tip compressor wheel technology.
The turbine is split scroll 1.32 a/r T6 flows a ton
I really dont know what HP to expect and when it will spool with the 6 speed..? might not even spool first couple gears!
a member on here dustin280zx made 500Whp @5 psi boost.. similar setup but he has big ported heads and big cam.
Im going to see what i can do with stock unported heads
Blowthrough 280Z Dyno results..and pic

nice man, what mods have you done to that holley?
