Its kinda interesting in that picture how the headlight bucket from that angle makes the car look snub-nosed... kinda cool looking if you ask me!
-
Yeah' date=' i completely forgot that one, it goes similarly to the black smoke under "partially burned fuel" Now that, didn't even cross my mind. Great assertion iaconsultants! I didn't realize that the valve guides could lead to that sort of issue, thanks! Well good to hear that you don't have a blown head gasket! Unfortunately, depending on your preferences in engine work, the wiring can be almost as much of a pain! Good luck, good to hear you've got your problem figured out. -Dave

Wannabe, that car is looking ship-shape, i wish i had the time/$$$ to put that into mine. Way jealous of the good work -
I guess less wierd as 'anti-stereotypical.' Most guys i know that build cars like that like the control of driving a manual, although i'm sure there are those out there that prefer the simplicity of an automatic too. Personally i love those 'tiptronic' or whatever they are called now... clutchless manuals? they are pretty fun to drive, easy, and you still get to pick your gears.
-
Oh well they work now! might have been the browser i was using at work.
-
Automatic with nitrous? thats wierd... Gorgeous looking car though, but if he's letting it go for 5K, he must have some ROUGH miles on it or something...

None of the links work!!! AHHH!

That looks superb so far! I'd love to see a close up of those vents as well, but they look like they function a little better than the stock ones... What are you planning for the lower front air dam? i noticed it was missing, and i always like seeing what people pick... i'm kit hunting myself. -
Well i have a tid bit of bad news for you, and you're on the right track... Engines will blow smoke for many reasons, so here come the 'simple definitions.' Engines that burn oil will blow blue smoke. Large amounts of smoke on startup could be piston rings, or valve seals. Engines that burn coolant will blow white smoke, often mistaken for steam, and is likely from blown head gaskets, etc... Engines that blow black smoke, are expelling partially burned fuel, which can be for any number of reasons, fuel system mis-mamagment, to fuel delivery blockages/malfunctions, or "running uber rich." you were on the right track with the weedwhacker idea, too bad its not a fuel system problem eh?

Yeah, i love my 2+2! I don't think it looks that much worse with the longer wheel base on it, and i camp and climb, so its nice having the fold down seats for gear! Man i'd really like to get a body kit on it, (that mazerati kit looks good so far BTW) but i haven't found one that i like yet, and i don't think i could mold my own, so i'm stuck for a little while... oh well
-
Yeah, again those look gorgeous in the drawrings you made, i hope they come out that nice on the car!! I don't supose its at all possible to make casts of those is it? hmmmm....

i don't know if i get that.. but i'd be very interested in seeing it. If anyone has a TiVO DVR and can make CD's or something, that'd be awesome!

Yeah, i have. i replaced all four of my struts two weeks ago, and the rotors and braked appeared alright (i'm not a brake expert by any stretch of the mind) but nothing striking stood out about them. The squeak i'm really worried about is the high speed squeal as my Z bears towards the passenger side. (not when it turns, but gentler corrections, like lane changes and such). Sound farmilliar to anyone out there?
-
Yeah i've had some serious squeaking problems on my 280ZX... I have stock pads on mine, nothing special, but under 10mph, they shreik like a banshee, and its really starting to bug me. I don't know if its entirely brake dust problems though, because i also get a squeak at high speeds when i turn in one direction, what do you guys think? Time for new pads and shoes?

I like that paintjob a LOT! too bad i cant afford to paint my Z yet... I've got some paint chips on the hood that are starting to rust just a little... and i really want that stuff of of there before it spreads, that stuff is like cancer for a car
-
Yeah i'd absolutely LOVE to see your progress on that! I drive a 280ZX 2+2, and i'd love to do something similar to mine, keep us updated!
-
Hey thanks! i get paid tomorrow, so I think i'm going to go ahead and order one, they even offer it in the color i want, so sounds like a good enough testimonial to me! Thanks for your guys' input.
-
Haha, I like it! i don't know if i could live with it forever, and it'd probably warrant explanation to your friends... lol
-
yeah... you might get away with it as a show car, but you'd have to trailer it sice you wouldn't be able to drive it on the road... probably wouldn't be worth it.
-
Those are SO absolutely cool... i'd build a replica... but i think that my Lieutenant would absolutely kill me! Lol. Thats the coolest thing i've seen in a while, i bet a 240 would look sweet decked out with some modern police gear! maybe i could photoshop it and out it on here somewhere... or do the camo police cruiser
-
The camo cars are so cool, too bad i don't have the time and money to post one of mine... darn college budget. although my 280 is my DD so its kinda hard to mess with... So the pictures that you stumbled across, are they the transformers TV show 'cop Z' cars, or are they actual pictures? because if they are the real ones, i'd absolute love to have copies of them, being a Public Saftey employee who drives a Z...
-
Yeah, thanks again for the help with that, i think i might go with the dashtop ti seems like a good investment, which will if nothing else keep the dash from getting worse. I gotta do some research into getting my '80 280ZX 2+2 back into good condition... But on the good side of things its only got 107K on the engine, and besides the seals and gaskets runs great! Gasket set just came in, so now its time to pull the head... to bad its my everyday driver too
-
Hey all, new here but i did a quick search of the forum and didn't find much in the way of answers to the question but... There is a company that makes things called dashtops that are hard plastic molds of the original Z dashboards. They run about $100ish depending in the model, and i'm skeptical of 'quick fixes' but running on a college budget (man it sucks). Has anyone had any experience with dashtops? Good/Bad Reviews? here is a link to their website http://www.dashtops.com -Dave
