  1. Also looking for some rear disk mounting brackets, the maxima style with the ~4.5" center to center mount, as well as G nose hood hinges, and a steering rod clamshell (interior plastic piece to cover up the steering system). Thanks for all the replies guys! I've gotten about 5 things that I couldn't find and needed from this ad!

Bens1088- I tried to send you a PM but it said you can't receive any new PM's.

  2. I managed to get mine mounted this weekend. Looked at the hardware more closely and figured out that acctually it had these little metal tang's that needed to be pushed under the weatherstripping, and then had threads on the other side. Really really happy with how they look, still one of my favorite exterior upgrades for the s30. My car is far from done, but I fit the quarter windows for a sec anyways, here's what mine look like:

They're fiberglass, with 4 louvers and a fairly large blockage on the backside of the window. I like the look of them better than the abs ones personally, they're a little less bulky. I need to paint them on the front and back (thinking i'll use plasti-dip on them), and I think i want to glue in the little tangs into the weatherstripping so that they stay put. Might try and get that done this weekend.

  3. Also,

    -4pt. harness

    -1" wilwood brake master cylinder

    -280z clutch slave cylinder

-pair of upper strut insulators, or maybe a full set of camber plates depending on price

Like I said, I'm in the middle of a full on resto so I'm probably forgetting stuff. Might as well offer up whatever you think I might want haha worst I can say is no or that I'm not quite ready for that part yet (sorry J240zturbo )

  4. So I recently bought some quarter window louvers off a guy here (1/4 window louvers, side window louvers, whatever you call them), and have been scowering the internet for pictures of s30's with these fitted, or anyone who has them. I have yet to mount them on the windows (will probably figure that out this weekend), but have found one picture of a person with them installed from car domain. Anyways wondering if anyone's got any reference on them, or pictures of cars with them installed, I really like the look of them! Would also love to figure out the best way to mount them, not sure if I should drill a hole through the quarter window or not... (they're made of pyrex, right?) or if there is a better way to go about mounting them. Anyways, here's the one car I've found with them installed.

  5. Referring to the fact that Nissan used the F54 block to make the factory L28et, and that it's widely considered the "best block" I'd go out on a very sturdy limb to say that the F54 block would be your "best choice." As far as I know, they really aren't much different except the F54 has the siamesed cylinders, adding strength. Also they are the latest block so I guess you gain maybe a bit better metallurgy, and a newer block. Refer to this: http://datsunzgarage.com/engine/index.htm

  6. Haha makes perfect sense, that'd take quite a bit of work. Have you looked into a mishimoto fan? They seem to be pretty slim. How bad would it be to use a pusher system from the front? Not sure if it would make sense at all, or if it would be better to run the fans sandwiched between the intercooler and radiator or in front of both.

  7. Not sure if it's an option in your case but I have heard of people cutting out the stock rad support and fabricating their own. You might be able to push the radiator a bit farther forward. You also might be able to push the engine back a bit, though that is a bit extreme. Maybe set up a pusher-fan set up? I know it's not ideal but it might be sufficent...

Probably stating the obvious and not helping worth a damn but you never know!

  8. You've got a PM!

Would also love a roll bar, or 4pt roll cage. Just something for on the street, doesn't have to be race approved. Obviously this is a big item so local would be best unless your willing to ship or we can arrange something else.

  9. Hey,

So I am looking for a rear disk brake kit, and a member on here offered me up a vented rear disk kit he pulled from a 280zxt. In my research I have figured out that the calipers are from a 1987-1991 rx7. I have yet to figure out what the rotor is from, it seems to be from a toyota cressida but not sure. It's kind of funny because I already bought a front kit made from 1993 rx7 calipers. Anyways what I'm trying to figure out is whether or not these calipers will bolt onto my Z. Looks like there's a bracket of a similar fashion to a typical 240z rear disk kit bolted to the 280zxt control arm. He is including the companion flanges and stub axles (already found out the stubs won't work in the 240z strut :( ). Anyways here's a few pics, wondering if I can bolt these rear calipers/adapters and rotors to my 240Z. I will be re-drilling my stubs to 5x114.3, so 5 lug is no concern.

    Thanks in advance!!

  10. Here's a list of what I'm looking for. I may or not be able to get a certain item quite yet but will need them very soon.

-240/60/80z stub axles re-drilled to 5 lug, or modern motorsports equivalent. I've got 4 lug stub axles but wouldn't mind saving some time

-Adjustable rear LCA's, preferrably techno toy tuning to match my front lca's

    -rear disk brake kit

    -set of 16" or 17" 5x114.3 wheels

-aftermarket gauges: speedhut spedometer, 5" or close tachometer, gauges for the smaller holes at the top of the dash

    -vented inspection lids

    -front strut tower brace

    -HID headlights

    -Comp hood vent/scoop

-rear spoiler, I really want the msa victory if anyone's got one

    -wilwood 1" brake master cylinder

    -door mirrors

    -stereo/speakers

    -anything else cool/random

These are just some things I could really use and wouldn't mind buying used. Let me know what you have and a price for it! I'm totally cool with replica parts/not as rare/nice/oem stuff. Car is a 1973 240z, so parts have to be able to fit that car.

    Let me know!

    Thanks,

    Austin

  11. Why drive a supercharger from the driveshaft, when it can be driven off of the crank? There are losses between crank and driveshaft which means there is less power available to drive the SC. Similar issues exist with remote mounted turbos, there is less heat and pressure available to spin the turbine than there would be if it were mounted right next to the engine. Sure, it'll work, but other than to be "cool" and "different" I don't see a reason to do so.

Haha i was merely wondering from a cool factor standpoint. I would be mounting mine in the engine bay :)

  12. " In a lot of ways, the interwebs seems to be making people far less intelligent about cars..."

    Don't......

    get....

    me......

    STARTED!icon55.gif

STS: Squires Turbo Systems something like www.ststurbo.com or the like... Search and ye shall find. What was that you said above?cool.gif

Haha that was a ninja post on my way to school, but looks like i was on the right line but got the induction system mixed up... Has anyone on here seen a Z with a rear-mounted supercharger or turbo system? Seems like there isn't really enough room for a supercharger system but a turbo system is possible with the use of a fuel cell under the rear hatch. I know I've seen a v8 Z with an alternator run off the driveshaft, seems like you could do a similar system with a supercharger, no?

  13. "One question though, I've read that long tubing from the air inlet to the manifold will make for laggy acceleration, especially in cases of intercooled turbos."

That comes from wanker theoriticians who live on the internet while logged on from their parent's basement eating cheetos and slurping Tab with posters of Star Wars on the walls behind them...

When you do the math, ESPECIALLY with the non-linear delivery from Centrifugal Superchargers the 'lag' you get is imperceptible to the human arse, much less anything else. With a proper compressor bypass valve, it can be argued longer piping helps keep the compressor spooled longer and faster in between shifts, but I don't want to start anybody choking on their cheetos and spitting Tab all over th3eir keyboard but suffice to say the internet myth of 'long piping' is just that: a myth.

Talk to the guys with the rear-mount STS units and discuss lag, see what THEY have to tell you about THEIR experiences!

Hahahaha I wish we had a clapping icon, that was awesome. I swear the people on this forum are so much more knowledgeable than any other forum. In a lot of ways, the interwebs seems to be making people far less intelligent about cars... things like exhaust backpressure, engines making most power cold, and this kind of thing seem to thrive on forums, and this is the only one i've seen where anyone does any math or tries anything for themselves. Really happy to be part of such a great forum. By rear mounted sts units, are you speaking of something along the lines of the guy with the corvette who ran two blowers, one off of each rear axle? And if so, has anyone done that to a Z car yet? pros/cons of that set up? In my daydreams of charging my car, I envisioned putting the supercharger on the passenger side of the engine, putting the air filter in the cowl on that side, and running the tubing through an intercooler of some sort and into the carb hat. Seems like it would simplify the system a bit and keep the supercharger/inlet air away from the exhaust heat a little better. Only problem is mounting the blower would be a little more difficult, but that could be figured out.

  14. It'll be on all the time, the clutched thing is just silly. You won't gain any fuel milage by having the clutch on the supercharger; the parasitic drag from driving the super at low engine speeds is less than the manifold restriction caused by the rotors, bypass valve, and intercooler combined. The only things you gain from the clutched unit are:

    1) Requiring you to run a 8"+ crank pulley to get reasonable boost levels

    2) Not being able to change the supercharger pulley to change boost

    3) Having to pay for the expensive clutch (Mercedes C230 Kompressor models for the M62+clutch)

    4) Not being able to turn the clutch on with any kind of load on it, or it WILL slip and burn up...No Mad Max full throttle + red button engagements.

I don't see any gains to be had there...

The engine is already built, fuel injected 9.7:1 compression, moderate cam, cylinder head cooling modifications, custom intake manifold, etc. I drive this car every day as it is.

Hadn't really thought about that but you pose a good argument. I was considering making/having made a two-row crank pulley, the most outside of which being clutched, but I would imagine that would be very expensive and hard to set up. Haha I grew up on mad max, basically why I wanted to be able to turn it on and off, still considering doing side exit pipes like the mad max car too :P. I think you've given me some more food for thought, I plan to stay carbed (4bbl), and was trying to understand how I could tune it to work well both with the blower on and off. Obviously, with the blower off it would have to run really rich so I'd probably not get any better gas mileage, just worse drivability and a gunked up engine. That said, please oh please post videos and more pictures and stuff. I will hopefully be following in your footsteps with this, except in the carbed variety. One question though, I've read that long tubing from the air inlet to the manifold will make for laggy acceleration, especially in cases of intercooled turbos. Is this a concern or is it one of those stupid things people say without doing the math? Seems to me it shouldn't be of concern since there's gonna be air in those pipes no matter what... I guess it might make it take a bit longer for the pressurized air to reach the cylinders? Anyways my current car (while I'm building my Z) is a supercharged mini cooper s, and I've fallen in love with that WWWAAAAAHHHHHHHH when I press the go pedal, so i'd love to have that in my Z too. The added power would be kinda cool too i guess

  15. Been trying to think up a supercharged set up for my L28 for a while. Really interested in how this will play out. Are you going to use a clutched pulley so you can turn it on and off? That's what I want to do haha. Also will it be efi or carbed?

  16. Haha well I chose to pick my battles with the illumina's for now. In a full-fledged rebuild (as you know leon :P) and figure I might as well blow up a pair of cheap shocks while getting used to the car, while saving some money for some other things. Plus I don't really plan on tracking or auto-x'ing the car anytime soon, if ever. I am interested to know what nicer shocks are out there for when I get to the point of changing out the illumina's, but for now i'll just run them. They won't blow up sitting in my parts room anyways haha. People have done some crazy stuff coilover-wise. I've heard of people completely grafting a new strut tube on top of the stock spindle, in particular, an ae86 tube w/ a sleeve coilover. I'm sure more crazy stuff has been done, but the way I see it is you should really choose which shocks you want before you section, and section for them (add room for a spacer if you want). The most common (what I did), is sectioning for the mr2 aw11 rear shocks for the front, and the 240z front shocks for the rear, giving you about 1.5" sectioned off.

  17. Since the 240Z has 50mm strut tubes we already know that the eBay K Sport vendor doesn't know much about the cars. The K Sport shocks have the same quality and performance issues as the Megans.

Acctually as far as I know, the k sports and megans are made in the same factory by the same people. They might be made with some different parts or something but its my understanding that they're basically the same shock. I still hold true to my personal belief that the best system is the sleeve type coilover in a sectioned tube. Allows you to use any shock you want so long as it fits the tube, etc. as has been mentioned time and time again. I think the fact that practically every fast racer in the past 30 some odd years of Z racing has used a similar system backs that belief up.

  18. I have one, same as AZC w/o the obnoxious price tag.

Glad to hear I'm not alone! How do you like it? I'm aching to get mine installed... gotta re-time the engine before I can get it off the stand though, then I get to drop it in to my halfway done car haha
