  1. Still working on the lights. Rest of car is done. Going to make some videos soon to walk through the build. Also just registered to bring both Z's to the August Zcon in Colorado Springs. Should be fun.
  2. thanks for the advice. I'll certainly do some testing first. Anything I do will first need to be subtle enough to not force a drastic change in the classic form of the car. I'm trying to tread a narrow path between modern tech and an old-school car.
  3. thinking of opening a hole in the wheel well then fabricating a tunnel from there to these lights.
  4. Here are the lights in the rear panel. We still need to polish and clear coat the outer surface. I'm confident with final fit and finish this will look beautiful and still fit the overall design story of the car.
  5. 3D parts for the tail lights arrived. Also got some controls mounted to the wheel. DRS, traction control, boost, display page, horn...

  7. And speak of tinkering...3D printing my own parts is amazing. I made a custom tail light assembly that will allow air to pass through the middle of it. It's the same outer shape as stock but is really just a deep ring rather than a flat panel. Shown here is the CAD assembly and an example of the LED we will put in it. It's clearly not stock but should be a nice update to the original design aesthetic. Also included is a shot of the inspiration behind the design from a GTR. IMG_4896.tiff
  8. so the car is technically finished. Yet I keep tinkering with it. This week we managed to Dyno and tune the car beyond the turbo's native spring pressure. It made a bit more power with almost 600whp and tq. At <2500lbs this much power is just fine and a good safe range for heavy track use. We will be at Harris Hill Wednesday to button up the sequential' shift maps, traction control, shocks, and the wing's set positions.
  9. The car is running and getting more refined. I had entered an event at COTA a few weeks ago but then Austin had that terrible freeze and I missed the event. In the meantime we've been able to finish the adjustable wing, using the mechanism and sensors from the Victor Racing wing setup. We took their hardware apart and installed it nicely into the rear hatch assembly and came up with our own mounts. The programming will allow for basic flat aero, a slight downforce for turns, and a big tilt for aero braking. I've seen these at work at previous events and they work so well they crushed the deck

  12. The 3D printed real panel just arrived. I had to send it to someone with a large format printer and even then it came in 3 parts. We will have to adjust the position of the lights a bit to get it mounted correctly. For now I'm going to leave the red/white paint showing behind it, despite my original plan to black out that area. It looks pretty cool in person. It's easy enough to change it to black later.
  13. The car is coming back together but not done so I will miss this weekends NISMO Fiesta in San Antonio. Engine is running roughly and we think it's a stuck exhaust side VVT. Going to replace it with a part that fixes cam timing in place on the exhaust side.
  14. yes. actually just spent many months doing some reworking of the engine after blowing it up at COTA. I'm hoping to bring both to the show.
  15. one more week to go before Nismo Fiesta. There's a lot still to do. I really only expect to get it put back together and running to be able to get it down there. Real test and tune will have to wait.
  16. Crunch time! Still planning to test/tune in mid September and drive it to Nismo Fiesta in October. Shift actuator installed the transmission. Driveshaft arrived. Fixing leak on cam covers and while they are off we'll repaint them with a nice speckle red. I always loved the way Ferrari intakes looked with that texture. Lastly I'm converting the 3D printed canards into a mold to make carbon fiber parts.
  17. it’s a Peel 3D light scanner. Not as accurate a laser but ok for car scale stuff.
  18. headed towards finish. I think I can get it back on the track end of august. That means I can test at Harris Hill in September and get some track events in with rest of 2020. And there's Nismo Fiesta in early October. Pics here show finished canard 3D prints. I'll use those as molds to make carbon fiber parts. Also pic of air tank in back for the paddle shifters (pneumatic). Lastly, buttoning up some rewiring.
  19. here's a shot of the holes in the back panel and a pic of the hatch area that shows you how open the rear is to the ground. The rear suspension packaging is open. So the idea is to flow air past the diff up over the fuel cell and out the holes.
  20. I have something interesting to share. Since waiting on some parts I have time to stare at the car and imagine other things that could be worked on. It's a blessing and a curse. I'm also a product designer by trade and 'making stuff' is a daily thing. On top of this, Andris' shop got a 3D scanner and that immediately starts to beg the question "what else can I scan?". So, we scanned the front to make the canards. That was cool. And just lately we've scanned the rear of the car to create a custom back panel. I love the stock look of the back panel but because the back suspension area is open, I
  21. I'm using a Motec M130. The transmission is an HGT 5 speed sequential. It's shifted through an air powered actuator that is trigged via the paddles. What's nice is we can program the ECU to handle the drop throttle and rev match on shifting. We're also wiring up wheel speed sensors since the ECU can handle traction control.
  22. I'm using a coiled up cable that can wrap around the column without drooping too much.
  23. Since the engine was out for wiring (new ECU) and the transmission, we sent some piping to get ceramic coating. Before it was starting to look a bit rusty. The paddles are attached to the steering wheel. But they are pretty small. So I'm going to cut some larger paddles out of rigid carbon fiber sheets (2mil) and attach those. Also took a few pics of the engine and suspension just for fun.
