  1. Wow. This is pretty impressive. Even though I can't view the pictures here at work, I'm in awe of the amount of work you have put in to this.
  2. Yup. I didn't take any pictures of it, but the SO upper intake is very small as well.
  3. Nope. Same stuff. Well....slightly different armature. Not like that makes a big difference if you are fabbing linkages and such anyway.
  4. The intake can be mounted either direction. The problem that I encountered is the fuel rails from the explorer....the nice chrome ones with the flow through design...has the regulator on the wrong side. Had to use the town car rail....which isn't nearly as nice. I think the throttle bodies are arranged differently as well, but I'm not sure. I'll dig up pictures as I have a side by side (for size comparison)
  5. Nope. Those are rounds I cut out of a bit of A36 with a hole saw. I've yet to decide if I want to leave them as discs or cut out arms. Probably going to leave them. Trying to get this thing done before the cold weather sets in. Only an idiot would do this to his only source of warm transportation....
  6. Just a quick udate. Haven't been posting play by play or anything like that since nobody seems interested. Got the upper intake installed. A bracket made for the coils. various sensors mounted. Trigger wheel centered and attached, along with its pickup. got the throttle and trans link figured out. (Made bell cranks. When was the last time you saw one of those?)Put the radiator in. Hopefully my guages will ship this week so I can reinstall the dash this weekend.
  7. Getting closer. Next weekend will be all about the trigger wheel, and hose routing. Which should end with the upper manifold installed, and the beginnings of figuring out throttle and trans.
  8. Brake lines held pressure. finished prepping the engine bay. Looks like next weekend I get to install the engine and trans and actually mean it. Slowly but surely.
  9. Brake hardware won't be here this weekend since partsgeek is slow. I'll have to settle for putting some gauges in the dash, and making sure the motor is ready to go in.
  10. Just ordered the rest of the brake hardware. Hopefully it will be in this weekend so I can get some more done. I hope to finish up the engine bay and get the motor set back in so I can measure for driveshaft.
  11. Got the brake lines worked out this weekend. Also did some fiber glassing where the battery box used to be. Need to buy front rotors and hardware before I can pressure it up and see if it explodes or anything. As soon as I'm sure there are no leaks and finish plugging holes/painting. I can begin to put stuff in it for the last time.
  12. Nah....they are ugly. But MR. Sledgehammer says they are good.
  13. Thought I would go ahead and start a progress thread here. I'm through with mount and crossmember fabrication, and all the test fitting that goes with it. Just about time to start assembling parts. This is a stock 302 out of an 87 Lincoln Town Car. Along with an AOD. Not really bothering with much in the way of engine mods until I get it up and running. Only "performance" parts are the explorer intake, injectors, and the headers. I will be controlling the whole thing with a MSII using an EDIS trigger assembly. Expecting something like 210hp flywheel. Here are some pics of the test fit. Along with the header clearancing and motor mount tack. Here are the finished motor mounts and transmission crossmember. Along with a painted header just for kicks.
  14. Just went to pay the engine off and take it home. Looks like La doesn't want any more of my money. Raised the price to $800. I told him to get screwed. On the lookout for another engine now. Seen a couple around for ~$500
  15. La's Auto Salvage in Oklahoma City. It was just sitting there in the middle of the container...all forlorn. I'd be a bad person if I left it there all alone and neglected. Kinda wish I had some more cars to play with. there were three or four 1UZFE's in the next container. I bet those would turn a s30 into a fun toy.
  16. I went looking through the salvage yard down the block and stumbled across this 2J sitting in a storage container. It came out of a 96 SC300 auto. Slapped down $50 to hold it. Going to pay it off in two weeks. $300. Several W58's sitting in the container with it as well. I'm all excited and stuff.
  17. COP, and/or sequential injection....all from one trigger device. Doesn't get much cooler. We need these.
  18. Oh yes. This would make my next project so much easier. I know they are working on the 360* CAS functionality, but this is NOW. Matt, if it comes down to it I'll pay setup and run on just a small batch myself if you can have them run it.
  19. What are the dimensions for the l28 wheel? Any other CAS/dizzy units fit in the L motors? Matt at DIY says we might consider soldering 5 of the slots closed, leaving one for the cylinder ident, and using a crank trigger.
  20. I'm researching this right now as well. What have you come up with for the low resolution signal? I'm tossing around several ideas, but so far making a new single slot wheel for the CAS is top of my list. Although, I have also considered using a crank trigger for the low and the 360* CAS for the high....but I'm a bit worried about the variance in the CAS. Thoughts?
  21. Sounds good FricFrac. Thanks for the reply. I've been digging around here, and sifted out enough good info that I'm pretty confident in this build. The wife and I are discussing target power output, and by the time we have the suspension installed in the next month or so we should be able to start scrounging up engine parts.
  22. LOL. I see. Well, I have no attachments to the word so I'll discontinue using it to avoid any unnecessary arguments or conflicts. I will be running an intercooler. I'm pretty curious about this det thing though. This isn't really what you would call a "high compression" setup. Even with the non crossflow design I wouldn't figure it would be that prone to det without some serious design flaws in the combustion chamber. Is anyone here running flattops with a full management system who could chime in? I was running 15-19 psi (creep issues) on an NA VG30E block with a fairly large turbo, and once I got the tune worked out in the upper parts of the map det was hardly ever an issue unless I got some bad gas. That was at about the same CR as what this is supposed to be, so I figure there must be some issue with the head if people are having that much trouble.
  23. Yeah. Being a non cross flow head is probably one of the biggest drawbacks of the l28. Must be hell on the IAT. I imagine that aftercooling is a must for anything above the stock pressures. Of course, running a larger hot side will help keep some of that heat down. Meth injection is probably a godsend for this engine. I think I might get a hold of another head to prep while I'm gathering parts. That will help me keep my downtime low. Anyone know of a good used parts source for these? I looked at ebay, but the pickins seem a bit slim right now.
  24. Why would I not want to go more than stock boost? Is the L28 really that prone to detonation? Or is this a warning aimed only at those trying to run hot turbo setups with a stock ECU? To clarify, I have no intentions of trying to run this without a fully programmable ECU. Thats a recipe for melted pistons. About those exhaust liners, are they a big deal to remove? Possibly just grind them out while cleaning up the ports?
