I'm using front and rear plates in my Z31. The build is still under way so I have not run them, but the idea is to stiffen the chassis.

Good luck, but i am going to be honest, you might be able to get the motor to fit and everything, but i don't think you will be able to fit exhaust manifolds on. I believe that motor is like 6-7 inches wider than the SBC. So, 3-3.5 inches on each side. That will make exhaust running a very difficult task. Good luck, because im really curious.
3 1/2" per side is going to be really tight, but I think you can squeze it in. Here is a shot of the clearance on my sbc. The exhaust is pretty tight, but if you could find headers that dump at the rear they should be okay. Also, if that is a turbo 400 trany, you are probably want some taller gears in the rear end.

My friend had one, and when he got off to check the wear, he bounced down the track, an damned near killed himself when he slid into that guardrail.

I agree, I'd pick it up. The factory pulled up to 385 hp in a corvette with Rockchester fuel injection, which wasn't at all hi tech by todays standards.

Who would have thought that a simple project like getting the windshield wipers moved would have been such a major pain? When we set the engine back, it was necessary to move the right wiper from the center to the far right side of the windshield. Moving the arm and pivot was no problem. The Z31 body is set up for either right or left drivers. Of course that meant the wipers would move in opposition instead of parallel. The stock motor (rotary) replaced by an ocillating motor from the rear window of a Jeep Grand Cherokee. The linkage had to be operated through a bell crank system. that took almost a month to design and fabricate since there is hardly any room for lilnkage clearence. Last night at about 7:00 we finally got finished.
Normally, I wouldn't post this but in some ways this was more frustrating than building the chassis or getting the body mounted. Now it's on to putting in the firewall and floorboards. Of course, there is still putting the heaer unit back under the dash with 4" less space....

So I'm finally making some progress on the z31, and a while back I bought a steering column out of a Cobalt. I want to run electric power steering and this seemed at the time the easiest way to do it. Anyway, I have been looking for a wiring diagram for it . I spent days on the net, joined two cobalt forums, visited the library countless times, and started searching every parts store in the area. Finally today I came across a Chilton manual at Shucks. Whoopy, I thought, at last success. After plunking down twenty five of my hard earned dollars, I grabbed the book and went home to read it.
I checked the wiring diagrams at the back of the book, and discovered that they mainly cover things like installing a stereo. So next comes the index. I find the power steering section, and when I get to the page it says, that the electric power steering is a complicated system, and "if it has any problems, take it to your local dealer."
I used to think that some of the people who work in parts houses were idiots, because they couldn't figure out what a small block Chevy engine was, but now I have found out that the real morons are the supposed experts whose idea or repair is to take it to the dealer. I could have gotten the same advice from my ten year old great grand daughter, and it wouldn't have cost anywhere near twenty five dollars. I don't mind spending the money, but if the manual doesn't have information that is useful I think its a ripoff.
Now that I feel better, I'm going to write to Chilton and tell them what a bunch of a holes I think they are

Get a manual valve body so you can control the shifts in the tranny. That is what I am running though my trans is a bit more radical. If there is a drawback, it is that the 350 is a direct drive. Granted it is almost bulletproof, but an overdrive would be nice to have.

I love that Camaro seat. But brown just doesn't match the rest of my interior.

Even though I personally don't care much for the three wheeler, I did take the time to check it out. Someone put a lot of effort into it, and like it or not is is a clean build. Unless I knew that this was a pristine Z, not one that had been wrecked, or rusted, then I wouldn't flame it.

.... Okay people really. ITS A REMAKE OF THE 300SL GULL WING, and in no way resembles an S30.
So who really cares? It is a really beautiful piece of machinery no matter what it resembles. BTW, I love whats left of my Nissan, but would kill for an original 300sl Gullwing. For a 300slr, I would do something even more serious! Just my two cents.

After spending time looking at the situation rationally, I decided that owning a fuel burning engine that has a rated life of about 3 miles would be a stupid move. So this afternoon I sent my pal a check for $1350. I'll pick up the engine in the spring when I go back to see him. Maybe by then I'll have some idea what to do with it.

I think I'll call him back this afternoon and discuss the engine with him. If nothing else it sure would be an impressive thing to have sitting around.

It really doesn't need anything as far as fixing it up, the darn thing is basically a turn key engine. I thought about that, but I don't know if I have the will power to sell it. It might be profitable, but I really want it to run.

Last night an old friend who I have known for about fourty years made me an offer that I found really interesting. Jerry has been racing nostalgia dragsters (since before they were "nostalgia") for years until he has finally decided that he's getting too old. (he's 69) That's the background.
Anyhow here's the deal. He has a 392 Hemi fueler engine that has been sitting in his shop for quite a while. It's his spare for his fuel dragster. The engine hasn't been run since it was built a couple years ago. He said it should make about 1800 hp or a little more depending on how hot the fuel mixture is. Last night he offered it to me for about a dime on the dollar of what he has into it, and I told him I'd think it over. I really would like to have it though I have no idea why. I'd have to borrow the money (@$1300) to buy it, and I am trying to justify it. Right now, I'm leaning toward doing it, and the best excuse I can come up with is that I'd probably have the quickest Z anywhere.
Why do I see myself having to move into my garage when my wife finally decides she's had enough??

I hope these will be helpful. The front plate bolts to where the cross brace bar is located. The mid plate is in place in the pic. The engine pic shows the front plates with thebalternator installed. I can take better shots if they will be of any use to you.
