  1. Not only does por 15 make a mess of future repairs, if you don't have perfect surface prep and adhesion, it can accelerate rust. This is because it is an impermeable urethane that will hold any water that gets between it and the steel. It will maintain its integrity with itself, effectively hiding the failure from view.

Based on my research, I would use an epoxy primer or zinc phosphate /chromate as John suggests, followed with cavity wax (applied after welding).

  2. John,

Interesting article. Full disclosure, while I do have some direct experience and have observed lean readings with misfires, I'm mostly just repeating what I've read on the Internet. (Lean with a misfire seems to be the consensus on the megasquirt forums.) One thing to note is that the article is discussing narrow band sensors which reference the atmosphere. WB sensors reference a electronically controlled ion pump.

  3. Are you putting it in 1st before attempting to select reverse? This is good practice because you use the 1st gear synchros to stop the input shaft. Reverse has no synchros and will grind every time you quickly go straight from neutral to reverse if the clutch was engaged in neutral.

  4. You could also try getting the pw up to over 2.5ms (with the ve table or reqfuel) on the big injectors with include AFR off and fixed timing. You might have to let some more air in as well which will raise the idle speed. It'll be pig rich, but you'll at least be able to see if it is more stable.

  5. If you're not losing sync, it is is not on the input side. Probably the coil. Try switching it and see of the miss follows. If it does, it is the coil (or coil wiring). If not, I *think* you can wire to one of the spare injector drivers (yes they are on the MS3X card inside the box) and change the software settings. I never have had to do this though...

  6. Which version PCB are you using for your MS2? For your MS1?

Can you strap some resistors in line with the injectors and set it up without PWM control?

I've read up on the settings and think this may be contributing to you problems. You may not be holding the injectors open appropriately.

the MS2 section is weak on detail, but the MS1 seems to spell it out.

I have no experience with low Z injectors - but it appears that these settings can definitely affect the running, especially with large injectors.
