Luckily, I had spare 71b junk tranny in my grave yard. I don't know what car it came out from. Maybe truck?

The sleeve for the 20 tooth and higher pinion gear/cogs has an offset center to account for the larger pinion gear cog head. The cog head is larger to accommodate a higher number of teeth cut into the head to maintain the proper spacing to mesh with the transmission. Information on the two sleeves is as follows:

Sleeve Assembly (16 tooth-19 tooth)
PN 32707-78000 (no longer be available through Nissan)

Sleeve Assembly (20 tooth-23 tooth)
PN 32707-66300 (may no longer be available through Nissan)

I got my 71C tranny from 1990 240SX.

 

I just got home and remove Speedometer pinion to see inside of tranny of F4W71B. The Gear Drive on 4 speed tranny is actually drive shaft itself. It does not have separate nylon cog.

 

I need to look for it...

I'm middle of 240SX F5W71C tranny conversion to 280Z.

This tranny's speedometer pinion is red(4.1 final gear ratio) which is wider diameter comparing with lower final gear ration from 280Z(Black one).

Therefore, just plugin 280Z speedo pinion won't touch gear drive.

 

I have 4 speed tranny from '75 280z. F4W71B.

When I check FSM, I cannot figure out whether it comes with white nylon cog gear drive or not.

 

Does anyone know whether 4 speed tranny has it?

Tranny mount welding is done.

 

with cheap welder... as long as it strong enough, it's ok.

 

For tranny mount, which way is the correct way??

Once mechanical issue is solved, I start cleaning up tranny case.

 

Take a hot tub over night.

 

Grind a bit sharp edge.

 

Masking it.

 

and paint.

 

Finished painting.

After tapping with hammer, I could've installed mod 71b bell house with 71c tranny.

However, when I test shifting, it was really tight.

 

I compare 71C bell house and 71B bell house.

 

I should've enlarge 16mm rod outer side.

 

Now shifting get smoother.

I purchased 6" cut off saw at Harbor Freight Tools.

 

And ready to cut.... it was broken... Need to go back to exchange it....

I grinded

and drilled 16mm to enlarge hole

but!

14mm shaft did not fit in the hole!!!

 

I wonder 71a shaft is smaller diameter.... ;-(

I need to replace counter shaft bearing for 71B.

 

I noticed I did not see this part in 71b.

 

Bearing puller did not fit easily.

First of all, use drivers to open up space.

 

Then use hummer to open up more space.

 

Finally, I can use bearing puller

 

unnecessary gear is removed.

Brake light can be turn on, bur somehow headlight never turned on after headlight relay installed.

 

I opened up headlight mount again to check whether light bulb issue or not. It's painful to access to headlight bulb.

I need to remove side light.

 

But light bulb is not the problem.

 

 

I forgot to connect ground....

 

After that, headlight works!

 

 

But I can turn on headlight without key....

I'm thinking about making paper gasket for triple weber/solex intake.

 

Some people says to use Mr gasket #9610 or 9611
