I've been having my engine rebult for the last few months. Well, my machine shop guy finally finished it but I needed my flywhell done also so he did that too. Well, I didn't ask him too, but he put my flywheel on the engine without first putting the tranny cover on. Well, I think he used the old (slightly rusty) bolts because I've been trying to remove them but they just won't come off. I mean, I've even tried a 180 ft. lbs. of torque impact wrench and that didn't budge 'em. So after all that, my question is...WHAT CAN I DO?!:cry:

Quick Question About Using Stainless Steel Bolts...
tommyboy replied to tommyboy's topic in Nissan L6 Forum
Sounds good. Thankx for the help John! -
I'm rebuilding my engine and wanted to replace some of the old bolts on my car with new stainless steel ones (they're prettier). The only problem I'm having is that I don't know a lot about bolt expansion because of heat changes. So, I was wondering which ones I could replace in spots where you can actually see the bolts i.e. thermostat housing, valve cover, etc. I don't actually care about the ones you can't see. Anywho, thankx a lot.

Ha! Gotcha. Thankx anyways for trying to help though!

Umm, yeah. My line that goes from the diaphram on the canister doesn't connect to the T fitting inline with the dizzy. It connects to the bottom of the TB nowhere even near where the dizzy connects. And I noticed that it wasn't even connected and I don't think has been for some time considering how much the line has been degraded. So in all actuality, I don't think I need either one connected. Thankx though! BTW I have a N/A '81 280ZX 2+2

Sweet. Thankx for all the help guys!

It's just that I'm wanting to dress up the engine bay. I'm removing my stock intake manifold and replacing it with an N-42 manifold so I'm trying to take out as many vaccuum lines that run to the intake as possible. So far most of 'em are except those 2 damn ones from the canister. (Which I wouldn't mind so much except that they span the entire engine) I know that the fuel tank breathes through the canister...so my question is, can I take those 2 vaccuum lines off of the intake and leave the fuel tank breather connected to the canister. Would that do any harm?
-
So, Can I cap off the TB line and the intake manifold line and leave the fuel hard line connected to the charcoal chamber? Or would that not work.?
-
True, but it also has two other vaccuum line coming out of it. One goes to the top of the intake manifold and the other seems to run under the manifold...maybe to the TB or the hoses on the manifold somewhere. I just hate havin all these damn vaccuum hoses running everywhere when I don't need 'em. Grrr...
-
Do I really need it? I know that the gas tank breathes through it so can I put a filter right on the hardline going to the tank and take the canister off? Thankx
-
Sweet. So did you leave that whole vacuum line off, or did you leave it connected to the manifold without the FICD? Cause I know there are 2 lines that go the A/C vacuum tank from the manifold. Thankx.
-
I'm wanting to switch out my stock intake manifold with an N-42 manifold. Well, my question is, can I leave my F.I.C.D. off of the manifold, and only use my A/C while I'm driving and not while it's idle, or will it still cause it to stall?

Question about customizing an N-42 intake…
tommyboy replied to tommyboy's topic in Nissan L6 Forum
The thing is, I'm switching intakes from the stock N/A '81 280ZX manifold to an N-42 intake. That's why I asked about cleaning up the engine bay. Here's a pick of the stock manifold on my car... And here's the N-42 I wanna put on... -
Question about customizing an N-42 intake…

So how do these guys (like the admin. by the name of "BRAAP" I think) have these sweet ass engines that don't have any emissions stuff on 'em get 'em that way? -
Question about customizing an N-42 intake…
tommyboy replied to tommyboy's topic in Nissan L6 Forum
I'm doing it just to remove clutter from the engine bay and dress it up a little bit. As for emissions requirements...there are none that I know of, and I've owned a car in this county for 9 years. Now that doesn't mean that there aren't going to be some later on, but as of now there are NO EMISSIONS REQUIRED. Thankx! -
I'm gonna replace my stock intake with a non EGR N42 intake manifold and remove all of the crap (except for the cold start valve) from the top of the manifold. Anywho, my question is can I take the air regulator and other crap off without modifying or replacing the EFI harness and computer? And if not, can you tell me what I'd need to do? Thankx.

Lookin For A Polished Or Billet Fuel Filter...
tommyboy replied to tommyboy's topic in Fuel Delivery
Sweet. Thankx for the help guys. -
Can anyone help me find a polished or billet fuel filter for an 81 280ZX? I'm looking for one that filters to 5 or 10 microns. I've found a few online, but I'm trying to find one that's under $70. Thankx.
-
Good deal. Thankx for all the input guys. I guess I have a lot of options to think about.
-
The thing is, my car doesn't have a turbo on it i.e., no boost. I'm only trying to dress the engine bay up, that's why I asked if I need to worry about the referencing boost thing.
-
I'm down in Sierra Vista. It's 70 miles south of Tucson, and like 30 miles north of the border. That FPR was actually the one I was really thinking about getting. It says that the rising ratio is 1:1 when referencing boost. Since I have an N/A ZX, do I need to worry about what that is? (Sorry, I'm still a little new to fuel pressure stuff, but I'm a fast learner!)
-
I have a N/A 280ZX and I recently bought an aftermarket fuel rail. I know that I need an aftermarket FPR for it, but I don't know which to get. I'm keeping everything pretty stock, so I don't need anything that runs extreme pressure or anything. I was looking at these 2 from Aeromotive, http://www.aeromotiveinc.com/pdetail.php?prod=10 http://www.aeromotiveinc.com/pdetail.php?prod=15 but again, I'm not sure. Any help you guys can give me would be appreciated. Thankx.
-
I just bought a JSK rail and wanted to know if I should use a specific kind of sealant for the barbs, or if teflon tape is ok. Thankx.
-
Sweet. So, if I'm not gonna use the air regulator, can I cut (or at least disconnect) the plug connected to it from the EFI harness?
-
Okay, so I wanna change out the intake manifold in my car. Right now there's a W24 manifold on it, but I bought an N42 without the EGR to replace it. Well, my question is, can I leave all of the emissions crap (i.e. Air Regulator, Thermal Vaccuum Valve, etc.) off of it when I change them out? If I can't, can you tell me why, and if it's because of emissions it's ok because the county I live in doesn't require emissions checks. I'm trying to dress up the engine so, the more I don't need and can leave off, the better. Thankx!!!
