  1. thanks guys, I think i might have another problem also. I don't think i lined up the marks on my oil pump shaft, so, now I bring everything to tdc my number one piston on the rotor shows off. I pulled the pump, and repositioned the shaft several times and I got it to a point that the rotor is on #1, but my car still will not start. Gas and spark is not the problem. I show 42 lbs of gas, and a nice spark when I pull a plug. So, it's got to be a timing problem. A budy of mine told me about the pump shaft, but still no luck. Oh, by the way, this car is being managed by megasquirt\ any suggestgions thanks mark
  2. Is there a way to pull out the timing chain without removeing the whole motor? What is the easiest way of removing the chain. Stupid me, went ahead and overhalled my engine, and i did not line up the shiny link with the #1 on the sprocket at tdc. Any easy suggestions?
  3. I have the 5 speed 280zx turbo, but this turbo had an automatic with it, I just used the engine, and put it in another car that was an NA 280zx manual 5 speed
  4. calvin did the 82 280zx manual, come with the R180? I had 2 cars that i made into one, Both 2+2's 82,c 280zx I took the NA body, which had a manual trans, and replaced the motor from an 82 turbo automatic. I am wondering now, if I have the R180 in there now. If this is the case, should i go with the R-200 390?
  5. Hi guys thanks for all your input, when i said track, i mean't the 1/4 mile drag. I never thought of launching in 2nd, with the 390, i imagine the turbo would like that, alot of strain on the motor. I am hoping to have boost of about 18 lbs. But still all and all, I think the 354 would be best
  6. I have a 280zx, not sure if it's the same tank, but it's in great shape. no rust at all
  7. I have some flat tops, and rings are even in great shape too. Give me a fair bid, and they will be yours. If you want to low ball, don't bother
  8. thanks guys I am still not sure what i want to do. The car is mostly for street, but, having 440 injectors and a holset hy35 in there, i have 16" tires on it. Plus it is all working off of megasquirt, not the stock ECU. Plus i have 3" pipe out of the turbo all the way back to the tail peice. This car is far from stock. i am understanding, that the 354 will give me better gas milage, and the 390 is better for the track. I guess the better gas milage wins. I will only be taking to the track a few times a season. Thanks again Mark anymore comments are appreciated
  9. I have 2 r-200 rear ends. One is a 354 and the other is a 390. i was wondering if anyone knew which one i should put on my car. My car will be a daily driver, but, it has 440 injectors and a holset turbo on it, another words, i want to take it to the track. Any feed back would be appreciated thanks Mark
  10. Steve i had no internet for a couple days I ended up taking crank from NA engine i had. Thanks for thew offer, and all the photos you took for me I really do appreciate it Mark
  11. thank you very much for the information
  12. I was wondering, if there is a difference between a turbo cam from an 82 280 zx turbo, p90 head, and a cam from an 82 280zx NA p79 head
  13. Thanks for all your help and input. I ended up calling northern auto, and they were able to supply me with the dimensions of the ring lands, I put several feeler gauges together and put them in the lands, and yep, i am very close with the ring lands. (.02)difference i am not going to replace the pistons, just get a new set of standard rings Also, the machine shop suggested to re-bore because i have a slight taper in my bore, he said, if i am not going to race, i can get away with just a hone. I plan to do 1/4 mile runs, besides my everyday car. I am wondering if this machine shop is just looking for more work for him, and more money from me. What does it take to hone the bores? Do i need to pick up a special tool, or can it be borrowed from your local auto zone? Also, in this post it was suggested to install new rod bolts. I've been told by someone else these engines don't need new ones. Which is right? It has also been suggested to replace the main bearings and the rod bearings. More feedback is much appreciated thanks all Mark
  14. I really do need a crank in good shape, anyone out there with a crank for sale that will fit my 280zx turbo
  15. Does anyone know the measurements of a new ring for a 1982 280zx turbo, also would be nice to know the measurements of the race (slot where ring goes) on a new piston for the same car. thanks Mark
  16. yes, this is all i need, the measurment of a new ring and or the measurement of a new piston race for the ring thanks
  17. i did get a chance to read all of your link you sent me, thank you. I am afraid my problem is different. All my rings have movement, maybe too much movement, like the machine shop says. i pulled a couple of the top rings off, and i can see that there is wear on the ring, but i still don't know if the race, the ring rides in is too wide. I wish i would know the specs on the size it should be. thanks again, Mark oh, by the way, i found a great place to purchase parts online called northern auto parts, great prices and they carry ITM rings and pistons and felpro gaskets, well many things
  18. thanks for your reply 1st, i do have a service manual, and it does not show anywhere the thickness of the ring, or slot on the piston. It does show the lateral play max. plus it shows the max. gap of the ring, when in the bore. this doesn't help me though, cause I don't know what the ring size should be, or, the slot size. I looked everywhere in the manual. My bore looks great, still has the cross hatches showing. i haven't read the link you sent me, and i thank you for sending it to me, and I will check it out after dinner. thanks again Mark
  19. I have an 82 280 zx turbo, which i tore the engine apart. My head was good, cleaned and rebuilt. I was told by the machine shop, that my pistons are bad, because i have too much lateral play in the slot with the ring. # of my cylinders show oil on the exahst side. I read that the limit should be .1 mm of playbetween ring and top of slot. I take out the ring and it shows wear. How do i know if my piston slot is worn, or the ring is worn? Does anyone have data on the thickness of the stock ring, or dimentions of the slot for the top ring? When I look at my bore, it looks great, and the machine shop said it would be ok, if i don't race the car. i have intentions of racing on the 1/4 mile track and street car. The macnhine shop says get over sized pistons and rings, and re-bore and hone. I would like to get other feed back if possible Thanks Mark
  20. I tore my turbo engine apart, to find out my head is in good shape, i had it cleaned up at the machine shop, now i found out the my turbo block, that the pistons are bad, and my thrust on my crankshaft is bad. I have a working NA engine, and i was wondering if i can put my turbo head on the NA block? Does anyone know what my compression would be by doing this? Or does anyone else have any suggestins for me? thanks mark
  21. I tore apart my engine to find out that my pistons were bad and then found out my thrust on my crankshaft was bad, does anyone have a good crankshaft for sale?
