methanol injection on the inlet of a turbo
maybemark replied to maybemark's topic in Turbo / Supercharger
Hi everyone Ist, I want to thank everyone for their input. I really do appreciate it. I hooked up the system a few nights ago, at this time, I chose to only put a nozzel right before the throttle body and not at the intake of the turbo. I might change my mind. I ran it down the street, and I got some bogging at high boost, obviously I need to do some tuning on the system and megasquirt. I didn't run it too much, just between the bad weather, work around the house, and getting my bike ready for the season. I hope to run it a little late at night this week. Thanks again Mark -

Dustin Rodney asked what i will be running, and i told him, windsheild washer fluid. I have to say, I'm nevous about that application before the turbo, even though it's a #3 nozzle thanks for you input Mark -

Dustin I have an intercooler though. What about the water building up in the lines of the intercooler? Mark -
methanol injection on the inlet of a turbo

Dustin Thanks for your input, I really do appreciate it. I think now it's time to mention the company I purchased the meth/water system from. Same as you got it from Dustin, AIS. I was dealing with Rodney, who he tells me, he's the owner. It was his suggestion that I put a very small #3 nozzel before the inlet of the turbo. He went into great lengths that hundreds of his customers are doing it. He metioned names, I guess are big in the industry, but I'm not farmiliar with them. I questioned him 3 times, are you sure it's ok, since I forgot, if I told him I have an intercooler. That was his suggestion. I think he got upset with me, cause he wouldn't call me back, until I egged him on with an additional e-mail. Maybe it's ok to put it before the inlet for these race cars. I just have a street car, that I am trying to make quick, and bring it to the track a few times a year, otherwise, it's just a street car. I'm scared of his suggestion. I'm afraid, that like you, and Tony, and others say, if you have an intercooler, it will puddle up, if you put it before the intercooler. Again, I thank everyone for their thoughts about it Mark -

methanol injection on the inlet of a turbo
maybemark replied to maybemark's topic in Turbo / Supercharger
Tony I have a high pressure pump, it's a 250psi, I think it's set at 200 psi though. I'll just put a small injector before the t/b and be done with it. If I decide to go with straight methanol, then I have a large injector which I would use instead. Thanks alot for your input. Have a happy holiday. Everyone, have a happy holiday Mark -

Tony Thanks for your input. When I was sold the system, I don't remember telling him if I had an intercooler on the car. Well, I do, he suggested before the intake of the turbo, and before the t/b. Maybe i should just do before the t/b. thanks again Mark -

I am planning on putting a methanol injection on my 82 280zx with a hy35 holset turbo. This company that i am purchasing the kit from, suggested besides putting an injector before the throttle body, also put one on the inlet of the turbo. My own thoughts were, that it would crack the turbo. Has anyone ever heard of this? I would like to hear other people thoughts about this Thanks Mark

Sounds like he don't trust bigphil This is not true, as soon as I heard what Big Phil had to say, I pulled the turbo out, and ported the wastegate Then maybe he should try searching - it's not like this has never been discussed, and it's not like nobody has ever had boost control problems with too small a wastegate.
-
Anyone other than big phill, has anyone else had this problem?
-
Has anyone else put in an hy35, and had the same problem?
-
Thanks for the thoughts. Yes, when I say can. it's the rod that goes to the wastegate on the turbo. Phil, you ask, How do I know that the gate opens all the way? Tonight, we went ahead and put compressed air to the can, got the gate open, pinched down the rod with a small vice grips, just kept it open, and ran it, 2nd gear, it spiked, 3rd gear, it spiked, 4th, it spiked, had to stop for a red light at that point.

Hi everyone I have an 82 280zx, with megasquirt. I decided to go with a hy-35 turbo. The hy35 has the smaller exhaust housing. We put on an external wastegate can from a Volvo. I'm not sure, but I think it's set for about 8 or 10 lbs. Well, the can opens the wastegate just fine, but I still build up over 20lbs of pressure on my boost gauge. I have no idea why it's not staying at the 8 or 10 lbs. When I had the stock turbo, I ran it at about 15 lbs using a valve. Without the valve, it only gave me 7 lbs of boost. Now, with no valve it just spikes. I have 3" pipe coming off the exhaust side of the turbo, all the way back to the rear of the car. Has anyone had this problem? Does anyone have any sugggestions for me? thanks Mark

I have an 82 280zx turbo, that i put a megasquirt extra1 v3 board in. I decided to go with a Bosch 3 wire idle control valve. I picked up the mod kit, and wired as said. I seem to be having problem with getting the correct settings. The bosch valve is a 0280 140 505. Does anyone know the correct setting to install on the megasquirt, so this will run properly? I already have both the diaode connected and that huge 50watt resistor to ground. I think all I need now, is the proper settings. If someone out there knows, I sure would appreciate it. Thanks Mark

280zx front brake upgrade
maybemark replied to maybemark's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Rob Thanks for letting me know. This whole thing started on me misunderstanding the discussion of uprades of brakes. I thought they were refering to the zx too, when i bought all my calipers, and the rotors. Mark -
280zx front brake upgrade
maybemark replied to maybemark's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
the calipers are stamped S12+8, I started removing the pistons, thinking I would make a total rebuild out of them. Yes, the rotors are for sale also, I did list them on the parts for sale in hybrid z. I'm not even looking to get even. My mistake would be your gain on the purchase thanks Mark -
I guess I misunderstood the forum. I was under the impression I could upgrade my 82 280zx front brakes. I bought 300zx rotors, bought 86 toyota 4runner calipers, and pbr pads. I tried to put it all together, realizing, this isn't going to work. I read a little closer on the posts on the forum, I guess this upgrade is for the z-cars only, not the zx's If someone knows something that I possibly missed, please let me know. Otherwise, I have all this upgrade up for sale

350z brakes on 280zx
maybemark replied to maybemark's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I guess just go with the early 300zx rotors -
What would it take to put on a set of 350z rotors and calipers on a 280zx?

I have an 82 280zx turbo that i am upgrating to a holset hy35. I wondered if anyone would know what the stock oil pressure to the stock turbo might be. Also, does anyone know what pressure i should be running to the hy35. I have several different banjo bolts I can use with differenet size hole openings, I just need to know which one would be the best one. Thanks Mark

I have an 82 280zx turbo, that i was thinking of upgrading. I have heard that an hx35 will work, and the size will fit. Does anyone know about the hy35? I see an ad online. Will it work on my car with some fabrication? thanks Mark
