  1. After a lot of researching, I went with 2.02/1.6 valves with a Comp Extreme Energy 268 cam. It's 224 intake and 230 exhaust on a 110 LSA and 106 intake centerline. Lift is .47 and .48. I love this cam! IMO it's a perfect all-round cam, nice lope, great low-end, tons of pull to 6000 rpm. The XE274 also looks good, both are hydraulic and are well suited to the 327. Heavy Z
  2. Mike kZ, Zya's idea about the yokohama avs is what I have on my 327Z and they have them close to your size 345/35/15 for only $107 per tire. These tires are outstanding for cornering, and are very predictable in the rain. As long as you aren't running huge power these tires are a solid choice - mine have saved me a few times already in the three cars I've ran them on. Brett

Wow Dogman, that's truely amazing...I'll bet speedvision would pay big for footage of that one. Brett
  4. web page Good info on the car if you've seen the movies. Heavy Z
  5. A student came into my class today with a webvideo for us to ponder - he said this unit will make a Del Sol run 9's. Now that I've seen the video, I plan to sit him down and explain the difficulty in making an engine faster than a superbike with only one component added, unless blowing up the motor is of no concern. Also, I'd be willing to bet money that car is a long way from a 9 sec car judging from the time it took to get through the gears(they conveniently show you the boost guage instead of the speedo/tach). And supercharger guys, please give me a good idea of how well a stock block will handle 11+ pounds of boost. The on/off part was slick though...I wonder if they make those for the SBC? What were you towing Dogman, a Zodiak? Brett
  7. Thanks, here's some more info: Compression - 9.5:1 Cam - Comp Cams XE268H Heads - Edelbroch Performer RPM 64cc with 2.02/1.6 valves Manifolds - Edelbroch Performer RPM/rams horn Exhaust - 2 2 1/2" into single 3" Much appreciated, Brett
  8. Hello everyone, I'm getting ready to take my Holley DP into a shop and wanted to ask some advise first. What jets should I go with - my experience is in webers not holleys. I thought that since the Z is so light it might be ok to jet down the primaries. Any thoughts? Thanks, Brett
  9. Very COOL XKE!! Thanks for the post Brett
  10. IMO Amsoil synthetic is the way to go, the stuff really helps improve shifting. Brett
  11. Hello all, I just installed the JTR speedo cable in my '71 and it's not working. I pulled the cable off the speedo guage to check it to make sure it was turning when the car was moving, which it did. So it's the speedo, my question is whether or not there is a cog inside the speedo that could've fallen out while the cable was off, or is this just wishful thinking? If I need a speedo, any recommendations? Thanks, Brett
  12. Yeehaw Alex, LMAO...with that car and a cape you could literally assume the role of a crime fighter or minor super-hero. Brett
  13. Hi Robin, welcome to hybrid Z. Try posting this in the chevy forum and you will probably get some info. Good luck with the 215, Brett
  14. You can find out info on Scottie-GNZ's car at: GNZ And here's a good site to see it and other Z's at the track: Cruez.com Heavy Z
  15. Well, how much cash do you want to spend? For a V8 you'll need fuel injection and a very healthy overdrive to keep the rev's down on the highway. You could use a Grand National V6 turbo like Scottie GNZ, he's pulling mid-10's and getting something like 24 MPG. The cheapest route available to you is to turbocharge your L6. This is substantially easier than the engine swap, and you can keep decent mileage. With a few turbo upgrades, your car could really move...I just read about a turbo Z spanking a supra! Brett
  16. If you have alot of slop I'd check first to make sure you have the right strut cartrige for the Z. If you do, another fix is to cut some 1 1/2" exhaust pipe and use that as your spacer. Heavy Z
  17. The "leak fix" that Lone mentioned I heard from an old chevy hotrodder who swears that no matter how flat the header flange is, it wants to bend into a slight U-shape when hot. He suggested cutting the flange between the pipes (4 cuts total) to prevent this from happening. He says this has stopped his header leak problems for many years, so maybe there is something to it. Heavy Z
  18. Yes cheap headers are usually cheap for a good reason, grumpy, and I'm sure all headers also don't leak every time. I've got ceramic coated hookers on my 383 and they just started leaking through the gasket after 1 1/2 years in my blazer. I'll try that fix solution Mike C spoke of, or any others that fellow hybrid Z'rs have to share. Headers surely have a place, I just thought this info might be interesting to those looking for options if they run a moderate engine. Heavy Z
  19. Want a manifold with good balance of efficiency and reliability? This guy Brzezinski has been doing lots of racing mods for circle track over the years, and has some interesting mods for freeing the flow on rams horn exhaust manifolds, good 2 into 1 exhaust products, heads, intakes. The 2 1/2" rams horn mod really opens them up and may be a good daily-driver alternative to headers if you don't want to deal with leaks. Brzezinski Racing Products Definitely worth looking at - scroll down to rams horn info & 2-1 stuff. Brett
  20. A good affordable car is a 1987-1989 Alfa Romeo Milano. I drove one for six years with only ignition switch go out. Parts are cheaper than comparable Japanese cars, they stat out as follows: 2.5/3.0 V6 transaxle design (trans in rear)- 51/49 weight split roomy 4-door only 2900 lbs. Great looking cars for touring and in town, and the handling is nothing short of amazing. IMO a more neutral/predictable ride than a Z, and you can get them for a song these days ($1k-$4k for the 3.0 verde). A practical italian car, no kidding. Heavy Z
  21. Thanks Kevin and Grumpy, I appreciate your info and I'll tell you more specifically why I want to cam up, as I am very happy with my current cam. The problem isn't really a problem, but...it's soo neck-snapping responsive around town, I mostly have to throttle down so as not to look like a Duke's of Hazard extra or from complaining passengers. I'd give that responsiveness up for a cam that comes on a little later, like the XE274H comp cam. Then I wouldn't have to baby it, and power would come on like a team of hungry vultures a little farther up the rev band. I want to get some better quality roller rockers anyway, 1.5 or 1.55 if they are okay wearwise and geometrically speaking. Thanks again, Brett
  22. Hello all, I've decided to ditch the rams horn exhaust manifolds in favor of some block huggers on my 327. So far from reading various posts, it seems that not all block huggers fit on the Z without work. Those that appear to fit okay are the flowtechs and hookers, is this true? How about the ones summit makes, or are they built cheap like their price? Any other ideas? Thanks, Brett
  23. Hello, I've recently installed a comp cams XE268H in my 327 and I think a 274 would've been more to my tastes. Rather than yanking the cam, are 1.6 roller rockers an acceptable way to get more power with a hydraulic cam or do they create more wear/problems in the valvetrain? I've got edelbroch performer rpm heads and manifold, holley 650 double pumper, and stamped-steel 1.5 roller rockers. I've read some rocker tests and on paper the 1.6's look good, but maybe you guys have more real-world experiences to share on this issue. Thanks, Heavy Z
  24. Damn, check this out: EBAY 1700 LBS, 200 HP, 0 to 60 in 4.2...awesome car. Heavy Z
