My G35 coupe suffers from crippling wheel hop. This is a common problem in these cars apparently caused by a soft or torn rear differential bushing.
There are a number of companies making solid bushings out of 6061. Here, I find myself with a shop and a lathe and figured I would just make my own. These bushings are press fit into the rear subframe and are a pretty simple part. As I was getting ready to order some 6061 from Mcmaster, it occurred to me that I might want to make it out of some sort of plastic to transmit less vibration to the chassis. I was thinking possibly 6/6 nylon. Any thoughts.
Also, I am in the process of getting the exact OD of current solid bushing offerings for the press fit, but if you all had to guess, for a bushing around 3" in diameter, how oversize would you make it (in 6061) to get a good, snug with dry ice, press fit?

I have an '01 Suzuki SV650. These bikes have a problem where the front spark plug hole gets water in it, drowns the plug and runs only on the rear cylinder after riding or sitting in alot of rain. They call this the SV325.
So I had the usual SV325 issue that I've had before. I figured that it after all this rain I would have some trouble, and usually I can burn off the water by letting it run on one for a couple minutes.
This time I couldn't get the bike to stay running so I brought it to my shop and pulled the front plug to find this
Judging by the crud on the threads, I probably have grit in my cylinder as well. Do you guys have any awesome tricks for cleaning this out and or getting the grit out of the cylinder or am I pulling my head? I've thought about cranking the engine with the plug out, but haven't done anything yet. Any help is appreciated.

You absolutely need to stop by the shop sometime soon, Clive. I'm there almost every night. Plus the guys in my shop need to see what a Z can be with some time and effort. We should also get a group of us together for weekend rides or something.

Hey all,
I just wanted to share what I've been working on lately. A few friends and I have started a shop together. We lucked out because my friend's family owns a building with some space we can use as a hobby shop for free. It was too big of an opportunity to pass up, and I decided to start a blog to chronicle the restoration of my Z, as well as the other work we do there. It's just for fun right now, and we're only working on our own and friends cars and bikes, but who know's what can happen. I am recently single for the first significant amount of time in about 8 years. I know ALL ABOUT manipulative girls and fighting over these sort of issues. I bought a bike last year and have loved every minute of owning it.
If I have learned anything from my various relationships, it is DO NOT DEAL WITH OR TOLERATE GIRLS WHO CAN'T BE HONEST WITH YOU. I'm not necessarily saying dump the girl, but you can't be expected to be a mind reader and you shouldn't have to go back and forth with her on this issue. She said she was ok with it knowing full well that she wasn't. She wasn't doing you a favor by lying.
Frankly, I'd try (again) to explain that there really is no risk difference between the 650r and the FZ1, that you're a safe rider, and that if something is gonna happen, what bike you're on is probably going to be irrelevant. Be open and honest with her and let her know that she needs to be that way with you.
That said, I have recently found the most girls love bikes, whether or not they admit it. I started seeing this girl who, when she heard I had a bike said "Oh, thats too bad. I really don't like motorcycles". The other day someone asked me why I liked riding in front of her. After I explained, she first told me that it was a big turn on and then said she was thinking about going for a ride with me.
Plenty of girls out there. Whether it's with this current one or a new one, make sure you don't find yourself in a relationship when she isn't honest with you.

Nice Clive! Now that it's warm we have to go for a ride!. I took the advice of most of those here and picked up an SV last year. I also am good friends with another SV kid here in the city.

We've decided to go with the fence. Right now we're gonna bring out a contractor to see how much they want to install it and decide whether we want to do it ourselves. One reason we are looking to have a contractor install it is because we may try to build a full height fence. In any case, thanks for the advice and I will keep you all posted on progress.

Hey all,
So a buddy and I are starting a bit of a garage for our toys. His family is into real estate development, and own a small pay parking garage in the Bronx. We have been given permission to use a section of this space for our own devices, but want to make it somewhat secure to protect our cars/tools, since it is in a semi-public space. (people shouldnt be walking through, as the attendants park the cars, but it is a somewhat open building)
The space we need to section off is about 35'x45' with a 12'-15' ceiling. We need a barrier across the 45' length with a door to allow cars in.
Our first thought was of a normal drywall partition, but the height combined with the requirement of a car-width door make this a bit expensive.
The next idea we had was to install a 6' chainlink fence with some sort of fabric drape from the ceiling to both provide privacy and keep dust out. A car width swing gate would be installed at one end. This option would certainly be cheaper/ easier but we lose some security.
I attached a pic of the space, I'd like to put the partition just aft of the ramp, spanning that space. I was hoping you guys might have some input or other suggestions about how to partition this space. Thanks for your help.

Andy Flagg put into the public domain some years ago a plan whereby you disabled cylinders on a small car's engine and use the 'off' cylinders as superchargers for the running cylinders. It involves storage tanks for some volume. The engine is running around in his Civic 3-valve engine. It uses stored pressure for impulse supercharging of the power cylinders for accelleration assistance.

Hey guys,
I just wanted to give an update on my motorcycle situation. The decision was made for me. My GS was towed by neighbors who thought it was abandoned(I moved to VA and didn't have a plate on it because it seemed silly to insure a bike I couldn't ride during the winter). The tow company is now jerking me around. First they told me, and the guy who called them, the they don't have the bike, don't tow bikes, or don't tow in my town... all of which are lies. They didn't register the tow with the police, and it seems that someone just planned on keeping it. That said I called the police and after a half an hour on the phone with them, an officer found the bike, at the company's auxiliary yard. They now want to charge me more than I paid for the bike in storage fees.... I am working with the police to sort this out, but in the mean time.
I bought an SV!
I found an 01 SV650 for 2600 with 6,000 miles. It looks good minus a small crack in the fairing, which I planned to remove anyway. It started right up after having sat for some time(I met the owner after work and beat him to his place) and it rode around great. I put a deposit down and he is delivering the bike today. I will do the MSF license course this weekend then I am good to go. Thanks for all your help guys.

I saw this article on autoblog today and looked a bit deeper into the NR750 and its engine. Oval pistons, two con-rods per cylinder, 8 valves per cylinder, 15,000 redline. 160-200 hp/L
Pretty amazing. Just thought I'd share.

Yeah, I have heard that there are modulation issues as well, mainly to do with the shorter path the air has to travel on partial throttle as compare with a butterfly valve. I'd bet that this could be solved with a cam shaped throttle pulley though.
I have heard similar complaints with slide throttles as well...
