  1. ok, does anyone do a rb30 piston, 32mm comp height, with a 10cc~ dome? without huge valve reliefs cut into them?

I have seen them in 32.5mm comp height (normal for RB30) with a 1mm dome and no valve releifs, pretty sure I can arrange a set.

Any partiular reason for wanting only 32mm comp height?

E-mail me if you want any more info.

  2. What a weekend we've just had at Import Allstars. :D

The track was "reasonable" and we started off gently, 7.91, our first 7 in the FED.

During the day I got a little braver although the car was still all over the place, we ran 7.88, 7.81, 7.64 and 7.56, to say we are all over the moon would be an understatement especially as I had to bail early on the 7.56 due to heading for the wall, the mph was low at just 169 (would have expected 180+ on a 7.5) so things are looking very good indeed.

The trans behaived itself and it "seems" to be ok now, a few more runs will confirm for sure its all sorted.

The crash crew at around 1/2 track were saying I came past them haizing the tyres which was what was causing the drift action from 1/2 track, not a nice feeling but I managed to keep my foot hard up it for at least 2 of the runs.

I'm still on the old tyres I got with the car and the track definatly didn't feel as good as last weekends comp meeting but we are learning quite quickly and we are more than happy to have a 7.5 in the bag with just 11 or 12 runs under our belts.

Big thanks to all my sponsers and supporters, without you all it wouldn't be possible,

Here's a link to some video's and the photographers there said they got some real good shots so no dought they will turn up in a few days,

    Robbie.

  3. Looks great Rob, we were at Hampton Down's just over from the drag strip and we could hear the cars running - I keep looking around the track thinking man that sounds like it going for it only to realise all cars were still on the start line and the sound was from the strip :D

We stayed at Hamptons on the Saturday night and saw a bit of racing on Saturday afternoon as we'd been rained off, track looks like its going to be quite chalenging with the drop away corners etc.

Man I hope our trans issues are sorted so I can start to wind this thing up, still havn't been over 1.2 bar (18 psi) yet

  4. Correct angle is 10 degrees and even in the pix above it looks like adding 3/8 to the exhaust mount wasn't quite enough, might have to go 1/2 to allow for a little squash in the rubber mount.

Also keep in mind that the exhaust side lifts under power so even 1/4 in clearance on the rack on the exhaust side is plenty.

Or..........after the 3/8 shim is in there, maybe the intake side mount is too long and could be shortened to get the correct engine angle rather than packing the exhaust side even more?

    Rob

  5. Its the same price as always, its a full custom kit with pickup to suit whatever motor you have, extreemly time consuming and high quality, nzd1850 including shipping.

We can add breather fittings and/or oil temp sensor boss at no extra charge if required.

Several sold to the US and Canada, very positive feedback.

  6. Ive made a few sumps for guys with mckinny mounts and having seen a few pictures it appears the exhaust side mount is too short, several of my customers have had to add a shim under the left side mount to get the motor sitting at the correct angle which then allows the sump to clear the rack correctly.

  7. Man those front engine dragsters are scary!!! is that just a class spec or is there some reason you went with that vs a rear engine setup?

No rules, motor/s can be front or rear, its just a FED chassis and trailer came up at the right time, for the right money and I wanted something totally different to learn from and it looks like this is it, its SOOOO much different to the 240z its not funny.

I'm pretty sure it will take us quite some time to get mid to low 7s from this one,

    Rob

  8. funny thing is it's not as fast as his Z was ... YET

Lol, I've done 3 licensing 1/2 passes (2 of which equaled track record for class) and then just 2 attempts at a full pass, both aborted at around 1/2 track, netting 8.8 and 8.4 at stupidly low mph. (NZ record for class was 9.02 )

To give you an idea of the potential, with just 17psi boost, petrol, no NOS, a slippery track (as you can hear) no seat time from me, just 2 crap runs to its name and really no idea what to do or expect, we have done a 1.1 60ft and 5.1 to 1/2 track at just 124mph (backed off way before 1/2 track)

The best EVER for the 240z with 35psi boost and alot of seat time was 1.25 60ft and 5.1 @ 145mph to 1/2 track.

Its going to be good if I can man up enough to drive it with full power.

The ultimate goal is a 6 / 200mph still with the same 2 year old 240z engine with a stock block, stock crank, wet sump, petrol etc.

We didn't even change the oil or spark plugs when the motor came out of the 240z, just a clean and repaint of the covers etc.

  9. Having looked at these pix and the others you sent me it sure looks like the exhaust side mount is too short.

We've checked the angle of the base of the pan against stock and it is correct so it might pay to show Mckinney these pix and have them add some length to the exhaust side mount or supply a thicker isolater mount with the kit.

  10. I'm after 1 and possibly 2 VK56s, don't neccessarily need looms but would take em if available , I don't need ecu's, exhausts or transmissions but will look at whatever, even slight accident damage may not be a problem.

Please e-mail rips@inspire.net.nz if you have one/two or know of anyone who might,

    Thanks Rob

  11. Here's some of our plenims, fed from the front and tapered to the rear, same as on our world record RB30, we get very even flow and fuel trims between cylinders is almost non existant, be interesting to see how you get on with testing yours.
