  1. I havn't had any experience with salt flat racing or real high speed in a Z but I can tell you we had real trouble getting traction in our drag 240z at anything over 170mph, obviously thats on a 1/4 mile and we are trying to put way over 1000whp into it as fast as possible, in your application, winding up slowly, the aero side of it might not be so bad, best of luck, bet it'll be fun,

  2. Here's a story from the new NZPC magazine.

We ran 4 x 7s in a row, won the NZDRA Nationals then next time out straight off the trailer, 3 more 7s in a row resulting in a world record for RB30 at 7.86 @ 177.4mph, during the burnout before the 4th run of the day, the trans blew cutting our day short :bawling:

We believe that we are the first Import car in NZ to ever run 4 x 7s back to back, or 7 x 7s in a row at 2 meetings:

The 240z is now for sale less motor only for nzd30k including all street and strip spares and anything else we have for the car.

Worldwide shipping is easy an inexpensive.

  3. What's the setup on the tig rig? Manual pulsed or machine auto, heat ,etc?

And do you guys have it so good that you just keep an RB block around for such occasions!

TIg is set up manual and we have about 10 "dummy" blocks, 20,25,26,30 etc all used for making things and test fitting parts into empty shells we have here.

I could honestly say I'd have about 40-50 blocks here at the moment and most of them will be rebuilt for sale.

  4. Nice work, but isn't it gonna be hard to get to those pan bolts above that sump on the driver side? Looks too shallow for a socket, and the lip of the pan will interfere with a wrench.

There's more than one way to skin a cat, I'm pretty sure Gordon will have a 10mm ring spanner in his bag of tricks:) and I'll even tell him how to mod it to make it REAL easy to use if he needs to know,

  5. Yeah, forgetting reaction times for a moment, if we both run the same time and I have the higher mph its considered the "better slip" or faster car.

If we compare RTs and he was slower than 0.080 and we both ran the same time I'd have won the race also.

Just to check it out I put my time as 7.85 and it put me on the top but as soon as I put 7.86 in there I went back to second place.

Obviously I've put alot of work into getting to where we are and if I legitimatly have earned top spot I'd like it, is there anyone on here who could check it out for me?

Damn that 100th of a second!!! I should have taken a dump before that run after all, lol.

  6. I wonder what you'd be doing on an aussie strip, seems they do worse over here and kiwi cars do better over there...

    Yeah thats for damn sure!!

The top guys here are usually 2 or 3 10ths quicker in Aussie, there tracks are just on another level to ours.

I was leaving with only 10lb of boost, any more and my 60fts got slower, even on the world record run my 60ft was down, if I'd had my best 60ft ever and not had so much wheelspin in the top end I'm very sure of 7.6 @ 180+ and in Aussie that would have to come down some more as well.

She was around 1400hp and 9750rpm through the finish line, not too bad for a 18 month old motor that was on its 1st new set of plugs, 3rd oil change and in a car 217kg (477lb) over weight, running a dirty old TH400 trans!!

I can't wait to get my motor into a light car...... now, where are the offers for the 240z as a roller??

  7. Its just a basic street 6 point cage with no dash bars or bars through to the towers, it has a stock floor, stock fire wall, stock engine bay etc, its fine at mid to low 8s but it has started to get a bit nasty into the 7s as it is and I don't want to strip it and make it into a full race car.

Here's a video link and you can click my user name to get to the others from there.

  8. Well the weather looks good for this weekend.

We are in the finals of the NZ Nationals (finals cancelled last time due to getting dark) and I"m up against a Sports compact car meaning I have to give him a 0.8 second head start which sucks cause I usually only run around 0.4 quicker than him, but at worst I'll still be 2nd. :-D

After that run is done, we have another full days competition so I should get plenty of runs all going well.

We've added the extra fuel pump and the bigger injectors and been back on the dyno, last time we could hold it "ok" and were at around 1100whp at 28psi, with the boost turned up to about 35psi we got massive tyre shake on the dyno for the first time ever, the poor tyres were distorting badly and trying to rip themselves off the rims, I suppose in a way thats a good sign??:lol:

Anyway, we have it sorted so we can really lay on some power just after I grab 2nd (about 1.5 seconds into the run at around 80 feet out) so as long as I'm not all out of shape at that point we should be ok, lol.

Man I want that 7 bad........

  9. I've had a confirmed order and payment made and also had news back from Japan which is not so good.

I've had to pay alot more for the 1 new oil pan I could get and there are no more available through nissan Japan.

I'll complete the job I've taken on but I won't be able to offer any more sorry unless another supply of new oil pans turns up.

I probably don't think its worth us making steel or alloy ones from scratch, lets see how Mckinney's oil pans turn out and we'll go from there,

  10. My 240z has a rear pan wet sump and although my motor sits a little further forward than most of you guys probably would I'll be doing the big sumps for you guys in a very similar way.

I'll just need to know if any of the guys are wanting these for RB25s and if they want to run the braces from the side of the block to the bottom of the bellhousing.

I'll post some pix of my oil pan and a few others we have done recently but I will not be posting pix of the inside of the sump.

My car does 0-60mph is around 1.5 seconds with a RIPS wet sump and accusump and I've reccomended to everyone if your doing anything other than brisk street driving an accusump is reccomended.

    Rob

  11. I've had about 6 or 7 guys contact me today about doing proper high quality, high capacity rear pan RB25 or 26 oil pan and pickup kits for 240z.

I've given prices and if a few of you get together its going to save quite a bit.

Only thing I'll have to check is availability and time scale for multiple units, I know I have access to 1 or 2 new rear pan sumps right now though.

    Rob

  12. I have 3 options for you.

Either I can make you a rear sump from a front pan RB20 sump that will suit the RB26 and supply the pickup to suit.....

Or... I can supply a brand new stock rear pan sump and custom 26 pick up......

Or....I can supply a brand new rear pan sump which has been modified, high capacity, baffled with surge tank, breathers and a custom pickup.

E-mail me rips@inspire.net.nz if your interested

  13. Rob, correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you stated that you tore the motor apart and put it back together again without any mods or parts replacement because it needed nothing???

Yes, thats mostly correct, I built the motor with forged pistons and billet rods right from the start.......then......

AFTER the end of the first season of racing, I pulled the sump off it and checked the bearings and they were all like new, the pistons have never been out of the bore since it was built about 18 months ago when we first built the car and everything was so mint I just put the sump back on and carried on from there, its only just had its first ever set of new spark plugs!!

So in that interview, I didn't mean I pulled apart a 20 year old stock short block, checked it, found it to be mint and put it back together and have been running that the whole time in the 240z.
