  1. alright well i'm going to be trying out this tb spacer, i'll let you know how it goes. this is a good starting point for me since it simple enough.
  2. 60mm tb spacers should be simple enough. what kind of metal do they normally use for those? should aluminum be okay? is there anything special on them for hoses or stuff like that? or is it just a 1 inch spacer with matching 60mm opening and the 4 bolt holes?
  3. just like any other sump tank i'm guessing, which would be to the bottom of your existing gas tank (welded on)... please someone correct me if im wrong
  4. swapping an l28et into my 71 240z, concerned about fuel starvation i have been doing a lot of searching and was wondering if i went with this baffled sump tank on my stock 240z tank will there still be a need for a surge tank? i'm assuming there wouldn't be because with the baffles in a sump it should resolve that issue. is that correct? here is a link to the baffled sump: http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1∂=AEI%2D18650&N=700+115&autoview=sku
  5. so i'm going to be installing new aluminum fuel line for my 240z l28et swap. i will be using 1/2" or 3/8" aluminum hose and was wondering which fittings i should use without having to mess with the tank. i will be installing a surge tank as well, so will these fittings work? http://www.anplumbing.com/shop/index.php?shop=&dept=Super!_Stock!_Hose!_Ends the ones on top of the page 00/00 under the image. is it okay to clamp rather than use AN fittings? this is for a daily driver . this is how i am hopefully going to set this up: tank -> filter -> surge tank -> efi pump -> filter -> aluminum line -> fuel rail
  6. it would be the same surge tank, 3 openings on top and 1 on bottom
  7. so with a surge tank is this right as far as installing it? fuel tank -> filter -> 5psi electronic fuel pump -> surge tank -> zxt fuel pump -> filter -> fuel rail then of course... return line -> surge tank -> fuel tank that correct?
  8. After working on my Z for 2 years i finally realized how dumb i've been. My dad owns and runs his own machine shop and i have not utilized him at all. So my car is almost done and i don't need any parts made, however i would love to help out all the other Z heads out here. I know there are a lot of simple parts people need like throttle body spacer for 60mm tb and random stuff like that. so here's my suggestion, anybody that has something that is needed to be fabbed, please PM me and let me know what it is and if possible send me a blue print with accurate measurements and type of metal you need. He doesn't really like to do just 1 part but if a few people need it then we can probably do something for a real affordable price. I'm not too savvy with types of metal and blueprints, but my dad would want specifics so please feel free to let me know, the worst thing that could happen is he can't do it and will let me know right away.
  9. Anyone ever use those ebay surge tanks? they look okay, but i'm not savvy on these parts. i'm used to carbs but am going l28et on my 71 z. should these work okay? link to one of them below: http://cgi.ebay.com/Aluminium-surge-tank_W0QQitemZ150316099456QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Car_Parts_Accessories?hash=item150316099456&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50
  10. this may be on the wrong thread, but here is my scenario: I already have a 5 speed (not t5) with my l24. I will be swapping in an L28et but using my existing flywheel, clutch and tranny. I do not have an l28et starter yet but was wondering if i can use the current starter with the L28et. is this possible/okay?
  11. Has anyone ever tried these kind of kits? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/TURBO-KIT-NISSAN-280ZX-240SX-S13-S14-88-94-95-98-300ZX_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trkparmsZ72Q3a1205Q7c66Q3a2Q7c65Q3a12Q7c39Q3a1Q7c240Q3a1318Q7c301Q3a1Q7c293Q3a1Q7c294Q3a50QQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem250336322094QQitemZ250336322094QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories i'm thinking of getting because i'm not looking for 350+ hp, i'm just looking to finish my l28et swap for a weekend cruiser. Any input is appreciated. I'll probably get this and upgrade to a garrett in like 2 years, but at least i'll get the intercooler and those kind of accessories that i can keep. Like i said, any input would be great.
  12. I have a n47 head bolted to a l24 block. I don't need this now, but am wondering if i ever need to replace the head gasket, which one do i use? Also, I bought 240z NGK plugs for my current motor (stock l24). I was told the N47 uses different plugs, which ones would i use? Thanks
  13. 1st off i have a 71 240z. i am going to be dropping in a built used motor i got which is a n47 head on a l24 block. the n47 head has a block off where the mechanical fuel pump should be (if it was an E88 head). so im going to be installing an electric fuel pump. the person that gave me the motor also gave me a fuel pump (unsure of brand) but it says 5psi on it. will i need a regulator? i don't know if 5psi is too much so please let me know if this will work or if i need a regulator. Thank you!! Also, if i do need a regulator is there a specific/recommended one i should get? thanks again!
  14. when i took my panel off mine were held just by the magnet on the bottom of the speaker. the Z store makes a pretty nice aftermarket speaker box though
  15. just got this set up and need help with putting in a fuel pump, the mechanical fuel pump opening is welded shut. can someone tell me how to hook an electric fuel pump up? thanks
  16. my su's weren't up to par, so i got a real good deal on these weber dgv's. already installed them, the only thing i don't know how to do is connect the choke cable. i know where it connects, but whenever i connect it the choke lever doesnt seem to wanna work. any suggestions, or does someone running this setup have any pictures? any help is appreciated.
  17. im guessing that i might need a rebuild, it doesnt use up the coolant or oil, im going to do the compression test soon here. i might just throw in the spare motor i have, it was rebuilt in the 90's so should be at least better than the original one i have now
  18. so checked under the oil cap, not milky at all just looks like regular oil any other things i should check?
  19. i've been having some white smoke coming from the exhaust while driving (more comes while excelerating) and ive had my su's tuned to be running lean. now im wondering after doing some research, what gas should i be using? i only have headers on the stock l24, ive been told a few things, here's what might be the cause: 1- valve seats are worn down 2- compressions off 3- coolant or oil is burning now im not a mechanic, but ive been learning alot with this 71 240z (my first z) and i want this car to be a daily driver, i drove it daily for a few weeks and it seems really reliable, but the smoke has not gone away at all. i hate that everytime im at a stop light im smoking up the person behind me, cops arent to fond of "racer looking cars" in san diego and im not trying to get cop attention, so i would really like to minimize the amount of smoke coming from the car. please any suggestions would help and if someone is in san diego i have no problem letting you check it out. also, im not sure which gas i should be running on an l24, should i use 91? thats what ive been using, but a friend of mine that is into older domestic cars told me just use 87 because it didnt matter thanks

    shift knobs

anyone know which newer cars shift knob fits a 240z?
  21. hey everyone, i just picked up some lowering springs, the problem is i dont know which ones are for the front and which are rear. 2 of them are a little longer and i dont know if they are for the front or back. any help appreciated
  22. hey buybruiser, i inherited a 71 240z, i know it is a different console, but i had a similar situation, the radio was taken out all the stock wiring was in there still. unfortunately they dont make a harness either for 240z so what i did, is i left the original harness in there since it is together with other wiring, i covered (taped) the ends so no grounding, and wired the new cd player in it. its pretty easy, just run speaker wires and connect them, the red wire to a fusible link(something that turns on only when the car is on), the yellow wire directly to the positive battery connector (make sure to put a weatherproof fuse($2 at radio shack)on the yellow wire close to the battery connection) and finally the black wire to a ground. i would recommend since i dont know if they have a harness for your car to put links on each wire so that if needed you can always disconnect it easily. good luck, let me know if you need any advice about stereo's, speakers, or anything having to do with hooking up the system.
