  1. This is gonne sound stupid but heres how i did it... Mask the entire outside with plastic wrap, get tubb of petroleum jelly, rub it down, get a few cans off tough stuff foam, spray all over the masked area, let it dry, dry coat the ♥♥♥♥ out of the foam (after removing it from the masked surface) with primer, get a can of plasticoat spray paint, spray paint it, next time you need a mock up slather it down with PJ and then fiberglass it and walla you got a "jig" if you will...
  2. The only real diferences in the fit is the vg30et sits in the engine bay a bit crooked (to make room for a few things in the "Z" not sure if it was the frame side of the mounts or if it was the block side that shifted it, but even so it can easily be done, ive done a vg30et in a SE-V6 model S12 (1984?-88 200sx) very fast fun sleeper car.... -PSi
  3. 1998 was the first year a "frontier" saw a ka24de until then the hardbody wasnt even don'ed with a ka24e it was an earlier version called the Z24 (basicly the same but not)... And the Honda guys used to allways tell me i had a turbo truck engine in my S13.... Morons
  4. The stock KA24E has a compression ratio of 8.6:1 but don's cast pistons, forged rods (good for about 300HP) the crank cant be broken (it hasnt yet) has a top feed fuel rail so the injectors selection is great, manifolds are scarce but as someone said check out gladman performance (jordan gladman whos on vancouver and KA-t.org) JGS also makes a manifold and manifold kit if your handy with a welder.. the oil pump sux, the fuel pump needs to be replaced. But unlike most single cams this engine actually performs as well as a lot of twin cams that are boosted... - http://www.ka-t.org Is your #1 source learn it love it know it.... -PSi
  5. Look for a guy named Derick Greaser (or forum name normaly "Greaser") most likely place to find the info is http://www.ka-t.org hes also known to troll the http://www.dragva.com forums as well as Zilvia (rarely) Guys done mostly everything with a KA but when i had my shop open we were working with him regularly and we talked about this and came to the conclusion that after he did it it was a POS and wasnt worth the work, the fact that KA blocks can be had for 50 bucks (with the head) makes this the dumbest idea ever (no offense your not the first one to bring it up so its not you thats dumb) =) just get a KA24DE and call it a day.. -PSi
  6. As the topic says im thinking of this.. Ive got a line on a few wrecked SE-r's (not interested in specV's as im just gonna build it and boost it anyway.) Any thoughts on this? Anyone got any links to maybe someone thats done it etc? Dropping in a 280ZX Im thinking the tranny wont be an issue as i can use one from a RWD frontier (allready donning the QR25) as far as mounts go im well qualified to design them and ive been welding for about 7 years now so id hope i was at least expirienced enough to build mounts etc. (im being sarcastic im well versed with a mig tig and arc/stick welding) Anyway, let me know what you think.. Im also not looking for tons of power as i know a SR/KA-t would be a more powerful option but im looking to do something well fun, ive put SR's and KA's in things i wouldnt have thought possible just kinda looking for something new... -PSi
  7. I agree with Hoke. Everyone is looking at this from a money and build dont matter standpoint. If this VQ you are putting in is stock it wont really need the use of a 8PSI turbo setup when you can make 8PSI with a SC and not really rob yourself of enought power to notice it... The VQ is a stout engine ive done a few with the turbonetics T3/T04B setup (not fun) and we had great success as well as a huge power boost but ive also done a few vortech setups and been equally impressed.. On the other hand: If your gonna get into the block and replace the rods and pistons by all means drop the compression to 9:1 and boost the ISH out of it turbo style! on a built block the turbo is gonna outperform the SC anyday of the week... GL with the setup regardless of what you use... Let me also mention that 250 HP isnt bad for a stock 3.5, and a definate upgrade from any stock 70's/80's Z engine (aside from a RB20).. -PSi
  8. Just FYI GA16DE 's have the same starter solenoids as a SR20DET =) Everyone has issues when they crap out a starter but 9 out of 10 times its the solenoid not the starter... GA16DE came in tons of USDM Nissans... =) -PSi
  9. Havent even picked it up yet from the previous owner, hes worried i wont =) Havent really decided what im gonna do with it as far as engine goes but it will be the normal run of the mill dropped on some nice rollers and front airdam 280zx, probably flared as i like the look and i have an insane appetite for GIGANTIC offset wheels comming from the drift community... Not new to Nissans by any means, but new to anyhting larger than an Inline 4, Im hoping and praying the stock L28ET is a decent platform to make some power with... -PSi
