  1. UPDATE!!! Well the past few months i have been doing very little work on my Z. my son was born may 20th, so i have been busy with him. The z runs, but only for 6-7 mins at a time. ITS STILL overheating. so.... im goin to try something else. since i want mine as a daily drive with an AC, i removed the AC coil and am going to look for a smaller one and have custom lines made for it. i tested just having the rad in without it and it ran just fine! the ac is blocking all the airflow. so im hoping to get a smaller one and sit it up front further ahead where i put the second rad. which has been removed. i did that as sort of a rad. booster to see if it would help cool and it didnt. so if i get a smaller ac coil, i then could make an air dam scoop on the bottom of the car to grab more air from underneither to feed my radiatior. Also i have been testing and retesting my 4 wheel steering. sometimes it feels like its working and other times it does not. hmphhh... im thinking about getting rid of it and getting a stillen hicas elimanator kit. i just need to get this thing to cool. i have started gathering a few parts to build a 383 stroker for it, so i just gotta get this whole cooling problem fix. so if anyone has any sugestions im all for em.
  2. Got it all together yesterday. All the gauges work and are tuned, flushed the cooling system and it now works great. it'll be on the road as soon as i have money to licsense it.
  3. SO about the mega squirt. What kinda sensors and stuff do you need since you have a distributor. i can not find anything on an efi system that doesnt use some kinda eletronic computer gaget instead of the distributor.
  4. Did some house cleaning today. I havent cleaned the engine bay since i put it together. Im waiting on a NA tach so i can tune it to work with the v8. The TT tach wouldnt do a thing, so i scrapped it. I dont think the trim pot on the TT Has a wide enough range. So after i get the NA tach in and tune it the car will FINALLY be on the road. I have a feeling this summer is gonna be alot of fun. NEXT FALL-BODY WORK
  5. Thanks John C, and Twin Turbo. Been trying toget ahopld of you forever lol. i tried to hook up my twin turbo tach and got nothing, like it was back feeding, i just bought a NA tach on ebay and it will bolt right in so im hoping to have better luck with it. Did you happen you hook the gauge up by itself or is it still through the wire system on the back? i was just thinkin this shouldnt be this hard. groud wire, signal wire, and i got nothing on my TT tach. so hopefully its different on the NA one.
  6. Here is some pics of the new radiator setup. I mounted the civic radiator on an angle as TOP FUEL of japan always seems to do with their intercoolers and rads. its suposed to catch more air that way. i Just looped them together one right after another. hopefully it will do the job. i will pry attempt to tune my tach again tomarrow and the engine will heat up during that process so i will have to see how it goes.
  7. Go ahead ask away. Yep i did have to massage the firewall back alittle by the distributor, and around the tranny in a few spots cuz i skooted everything back 3 inches to have more room up front pry should have went 4 inches now that i look at everything tho. keep that in mind. so what model are you gonna do your swap on? and what tranny will you be using. i put a link up of dans mounts. i dont have any of mine. but i may be redoing some things this summer so maybe then. Update- So the v8 has been running a little hot for my taste, and im crammed for space for a radiator and cant seem to find a bigger one with dumps coming out on the right sides, or one thats the right height, so instead i stole a radiator outta an old like 70s honda civic get this it was a 1.3 liter carbed lol. anyway. took the radiator outta it and stuck it up fron between the headights where the air intake box used to be. fits perfect. i just linked it to my exsisting radiator. i haven't had it out yet to see how it cools but the honda one has it own fan and everything so im hoping it will give it the extra coolness it needs. i'll have pics up tomarrow. Night everyone.
  8. I dont have any pics of mine. You do know that the ls1 mounts are different right? but i do know where some pics are of another swaps similar to mine... http://s164.photobucket.com/albums/u17/DanShields_2007/ Dan Shields, i dont know him but he put an lt1 one in and he has a few helpful pics. hope it helps. let me know when you get it done. i hope to have an ls1 in mine someday.
  9. OK so im stuck. im in the middle of trying to tune my tachs trim pot so it will work with my v8. However im not a wiring person at all. All a tach needs is a 2 wires right? a ground and a signal wire from the distributor. i hooked em up and i got nothing. any suggestions?
  10. So that little white blur is the trim pot? im in the process of trying to tune mine i need all the info i can on adjusting it. what did you have to rewire? can i hook the tach directly to the distributor? if so what do i need to do?
  11. lol. 3 c4s. all modded im guessing. honesty i gotta say anyone that wants to do this swap... its not that hard as long as you know boths sides of the story. you gotta know the z, and you gotta know the v8 you are putting in. its more time consuming than anything and mine only took this summer to do. i mean i still have to do a few things, but for the most part its done. Im building a 383 stroker for it pry go efi with gm ram jet intake. i dont know why i just love those things. still gotta do the body work. and a little wiring here and there. As for the room up front. if you look close in a pic you can see a blue bungee holding the radiator back i havent made mounts cuz i gotta get a bigger rad. still gotta figure things out with that. so thats just a tem up there now. but progress will pry be slower from now on cuz in 4 months i will offically be a Dad. but to anyone who wants to do this swap i gotta say its well worth it. The Vg is an amazing motor. 2nd in my mind only to the rb26. but the truth is its 18 years old. and to keep that guy goin you need to replace all the rubber and plastic on that engine. i did that twice on my vg. and its always a bear to work on. there is ZERO room for american hands. so the v8 is a few inches longer, but they are about the same witdth once you got manifolds or headers on the v8. but the engine bay isnt packed level full like with the vg so you can actually get your hands in there. also engine removal is WAAAAAAAY easier with the v8 i bet i had it in and out 25 times when mocking things up and checkin things out. well just got off work and im gonna head to bed. thanks for all the support guys. if you have any questions i'll be happy to answer them if i can.
  12. Here is the pics there is a lot so they may take awhile to load.
  13. Sorry I havent been on in forever. I have been working, buying and saving preparing for the baby on the way. I have decided not to sell the car. i just can let it go. And as for the pics idk what is up with them not working damn photo bucket! i'll repost them in order. Im thinkin about going EFI but im terrible and understanding that wiring and stuff. i may just have to bite the bullet and buy the whole gm ram jet kit, it comes with everthing. if anyone knows anything about efi stuff let me know it would be greatly appreciated.
  14. Twin Turbo, I got a question about your megasquirt system. im thinking of buying one for my sbc powered z32 cuz right now its carb and i wanna go efi. how did you know how to tune yours and are they hard to wire up and all that jaz.
  15. first the good. the car runs like a champ, the bad... the radiator i have isn't gonna cool it i need a bigger one, the manifold i made melted my distributer wires so i need to get new ones. and im going to remove the manfolds and wrap them and then i bought some have sleaves for the wires they are like a 1/2 inch from the manifolds but its still too close. the 4 wheel steering doesn't seem to be working, im going to try one more thing and see how it goes if not i will remove it. i also removed the cruise control, after all it not gonna be a traveling car. the exhaust sounds great but i need to make 2 straps for it one for each muffler, they wiggle a little when you rev it. i was gonna get a vid but i will once i get all that rigga morrow outta the way. here is some good new well for me anyway but it also brings bad news... IM GONNA BE A DAD! so... the z i haven't even had the chance to take on a sunday drive has to go. i need something with a back seat, and the wife wont go for a 2+2 model even tho she loves the car. so any you guys wanting a v8 z with pretty close to all the work done, make me an offer. i wont lie it needs paint, its a 90. the interrior is amazing except the seats coudl be recoverd, no tears, but worn and i just know a tear is coming. and of course i will fix everything and make sure its road worth b4 i sell it to anyone. im not gonna be like the guy that sold it to me. Thanks everyone for your support.
  16. I have 1990 300zx tt, well was. i have a chevy v8 in it and have all my gauges working except the boost obviously, and the tach. if i wire the tach up as is it will run fast. but it has whats called a trim pot on the back... anyone know how to calibrate them or if i need anything special to do so?
  17. Yeah but they also are turning 8-9 grand and race season last 7 months. mine will only be turning like 5. for now. i also have a friend that has a GTO and he said he has had his in his 400 for like 6 years and never had a prob.
  18. I have heard that, but my friend runs a stock car and he has run a direct drive gear set for years and his dad used to race and he said he has been using them ever since they came out and he has never had a problem.
  19. Wow! There was even some stuff in there i didnt know. Paul you sure know your stuff. Its nice to have an administrator of a site that knows whats going on and wasn't just hired on to make sure ppl follow the rules, it nice to have someone that also shares the interest of the site. thanks again for all the info!
  20. Paul thats how mine got and once i thought i got everything fixed, it seemed like 10 other things would break. and anyone who owns a z32 n/a or turbo, knows how much it sucks to even fix the small things on that crammed engine.
  21. K here is the pics that pete requested, they make it hard to see the real distance betweent the water pump and the radiator, but its really close to inbetween 1/4 and 1/2 cuz the radiator sit at an angle. the top sits closer to the engine than the bottom. Drop_Team_Z- I have no pics of the engine mounts but i can explain them. i used the stock sbc mounts they are like the 70s styled ones... and i used the stock 300zx mounts. now the 300zx mounts sit back about 7 inches from the center of the chevy ones, thats center to center. so i took a piece of 1/4 inch steel plate and cut and welded them to the bottom of the chevy ones, then put a slot in them for the bolt that sticks up outta the 300zx ones. the slot allows me to adjust alittle and then u just bolt them down on the nissan mounts. make sense? next time i have my manifolds off i will take a pic of them. i have no idea when that will be. sorry. Yeah i never thought i would have gotten it done in one summer but there was alot of late nights and i worked pretty much every weekend all day everyday i could. i started in may i believe and i am finish my exhaust pry next week. i'll put pics up of them and then maybe a little video of how it sounds, if i dont like it i may change it who knows. Thanks everyone for your comments
