  1. I checked the float level, the gas is right at the inspection hole. It has a brand new electric fuel pump, but I haven't checked the pressure at the carb. The timing is at 12 degrees, I had it at 10, no difference. The vacuum advance is working fine, rebuilt distributor. I have an ACCEL 12v. coil on it.
  2. I finally got my exhaust hooked up, but I am not happy with the way the motor runs. If I leave the idle at about 800, the carburetor (new holley 390 on an arizona z car manifold will backfire about every 10 seconds) the manifold vacuum is about 17 inches at idle crane cam electronic distributor with 12-80 module timing set at 12 degrees btdc just rebuilt the engine, 2.8 flatop pistons any ideas? I'll recheck the valve clearances tomorrow I am getting 12 volts to the coil.
  3. jb weld is s**t. I would buy a slightly larger key and carefully grind the crankshaft groove to fit. You can grind or file the top half of the key to fit the pulley. I've done this before, it's not hard.
  4. The dash is easily covered with a dash cap, costs about $100. If the car has much rust, it's really not worth messing with. You'll find more and more rust the more you try to clean it up. I bought a 75 280z with 250k miles on the original engine, it was still running ok but definitely was in need of a rebuild. The best restoration candidate is a rust free, complete car. This will give you a solid foundation to start with. You probably won't find a car with a dash that isn't cracked. Most that I see on ebay that claim to have a perfect dash actually have a dash cap. I have seen NOS dashes in the $1000 price range.
  5. I have had a 240z, 260z, 280z, and a Z32 300zx. I bought the 300 from an old man that bought it new, it had 100k miles. I loved the looks of the car, ergonomics were perfect, fun to drive, but......... the timing belt broke shortly after I bought it, wrecked the valves, and I found out what a nightmare this car is to work on, the worst of any car I've ever had. If you are thinking about buying one, make sure you take a close look at the underhood wiring, as it is probably cooked from the heat and a new harness for the NA is no longer available. I sold the car at a big loss, and am restoring my 260z with an l28 engine, 5 speed, headers, holley carb. I think its much more of what a sports car should be. In summary, if you want a Z32, you better plan on spending a lot of money on repairs.
  6. Hi, I bought an MSA fiberglass air dam and rear skirt, they are not drilled and I am not sure of the best way to mount them, I don't want to glass them onto the body, I'll use nuts and bolts. Has anyone done these? Thanks
  7. There's some great advice here. I didn't have 4 way flashers working, I started checking the wiring and the connector from the console wiring to the firewall loom had some bad wires, it looked like the heater core may have been leaking on it, it was all corroded. I fixed this, gave it a good coating of dielectric grease, and now everything works fine.
  8. That would be great! Or email it to me, so I can be sure to see it. Thanks.
  9. This is his second time on ebay, no offers the first time. There's lots of clean z cars going for 2500-6000. Look at 65 to 68 mustangs, 2500 will get you a clapped out six cylinder.
  10. I have an Infiniti G35, 280hp, that seems to be plenty, about 120 more than a 280Z. I also have a 2004 Yamaha FJR1300, I'm happy with the stock horsepower. Unless you are on a racetrack, you really don't need more power than that. I am building a 74 260z with a 2.8, flattop pistons, crane cam, headers, and a holley 4bbl, I'm hoping to get 180hp. That should push that little Z along nicely. 0-60 at 6 seconds is generally the figure for good acceleration.
  11. Thaks for the info. I would like to see if anyone has a dyno for a similar setup, so I might get some idea of a baseline.
  12. Hi, I changed my 74 260 z to an l28 with flattop pistons, crane cam, headers, and arizona zcars manifold with holley 390. Does anyone have dyno run charts for a similar setup? I don't want to guesstimate the power output. Thanks.
