  1. I am facing the same decision. I thought there was one or two people that got the 280 relay to work, but no one else has weighed in. On to plan B.
  2. I need a 240Z headlight switch. PM me if you have one to part with. thanks.
  3. Need some help folks. I have finally began working on my 280Z after putting it in storage back in 2001. I left off with replacing all the wiring and made some good notes, but now its show time. I have the correct Honda wiper motor, but just can't get this thing to work after reading all the posts, traing all the wiring, and it just won't work. My memory may be to blame also. Now, I am fairly certain that the stock delay module is shot. May be someone can help me understand a few things about the upgrade: 1. does it rely on utilizing the stock relay/delay module WITH the additional relay? 2. can the stock relay/delay module be omitted? 3. if #2 above, has anyone wired up the wiper motor successfully using new relays with the stock combo switch? 4. can anyone help me out with any of the above? Its really stumped the chump [me]. this is the last thing I need to complete on the entire electrical system and it has me beat.
  4. The picture links are dead. can someone upload the diagrams again? I have now started working on the Z after a 7 year break and have a lot of catching up to do. thanks.
  5. For what it's worth, I just bought a brand new pair of the Maxima caliper brackets for 99.00 shipped. Yes, these are the correct brackets for the Z rear disk brake swap, part #44155-04S10, that I have read is sometimes hard to come by. I ordered them through http://www.nissanautoparts.com. Just type in the part number in the appropriate window and there you go. I received the brackets in less than a week. Also, this post may be better suited elsewhere, so I will leave it up to the webmasters to place it appropriately. If you are looking for a source for these brackets, here you go. I am not sure of availability, but that is where I bought mine. Good luck. Grog
  6. OK here is the link for the Datsun and Honda wiper motor comparison. http://album.hybridz.org/showgallery.php?cat=500&ppuser=8433 One correction: the wiper motor is from a 1991 Honda Civic EX, not ES. Grog
  7. Side-by-side comparison
  8. on the left is the wiper motor from a 1991 Honda Civic EX. the wiper mechanism fits on the Honda motor without modification
  9. I have pictures of the two motors but can't post them. Any help for the computer illiterate?
  10. I was so intrigued by J. Solieau's Honda wiper motor conversion that I went to the JY to find a motor myself. I came across a 1991 Honda Civic ES and pulled the motor from that. Looks exactly the same as the one described in Solieau's post. Upon doing so, I immediately noted that the wiper motor nipple that attaches to the wiper arm on the Datsun 240/260/280 is already slotted. So, I walked over to the Datsun line and performed a little mock-up. The Datsun wiper arm fit snugly over the Honda wiper motor nipple, but the length of the notch on the Datsun wiper arm is a little linger than the Honda nipple but it should be OK. You would still need to notch the Datsun mounting bracket and re-drill the mounting holes as described by Solieau, but other than that, its a bolt in. I will post pics of the motor later.
  11. I have a 1975 Z but use an 80ZX steering wheel. Direct bolt on.
  12. Thanks for the link. You do nice work. Any pearls of wisdom to pass along about the swap? Did you have to make any mods to the rack itself? Where did you get the steering shaft? Did you use the stock Miata tie rods, so on and so forth.... I am debating either this particular swap or the Mustang rack. Any information you care to pass along will be much appreciated. Grog
  13. I remember a while back someone posted a threat about using the p/s rack from a Miata. I tried the search function but couldn't get anything posted earlier than 2004 for some reason. Does anyone remember the specs on the rack that was used e.g year, part number, pump, etc...? I think this swap was a little easier than the 95 Mustang rack.
  14. After carefully studying several electrical diagrams of the Z's heater and A/C wiring, it was apparent that none of them matched what the wiring color codes in my 1975 Z was. They are still stock. I could smack the engineers at Nissan for sniffing glue on the job, because that's the only explanation I have for the wiring mess they concocted. Maybe that's what the engineers who designed the timing chain cover for a Buick V8 did also. Question: I know where the blue/yellow, blue/red, and blue/green wires go (fan switch to resistor pack) and the blue/white also (fuse box - i think...) but there is a blue wire and TWO blue/black wires (one is 16/18 gauge, the other 12 gauge) that run from the resistor pack to God knows where. Where do they go? Does one of them go to the blower motor? BTW, I am using the fan from an 88 CRX and it works great. I digress....has anyone deciphered this wiring mystery because I sure couldn't do it. Also, has anyone made their own resistor pack to replace the aging (mine is more like decrepit) resistor coils and would have some good information/part numbers/instructions on doing this upgrade? I am re-wiring my Z using parts from Waytek. The last bit I have to wire up is the heater and A/C controls, which is giving me a fit because none of the wiring diagrams I have is accurate.
  15. I would really appreciate a copy of the instructions if you (or anyone else) can scrounge one up. It has some problems re-setting for the next shift in rachet mode. The detent spring on the bottom left of the shifter is there, but I think that there is supposed to be a spring on the right that retracts the rachet detent (right side) for the next shift. I am just not sure if every spring/nut/bolt or what-have-you is there. Once I figure that out, I can get the parts or MILSPEC fabricate my own.
  16. I just bought a used but in very good condition B&M megashifter but it didn't have any instructions. I really could use a copy of the factory instructions if someone who has this shifter would be willing to provide me one (electrons or hardcopy). I think it is missing a spring to make it work properly . I am not sure without looking at the schematics to verify it is complete. I would be grateful for any ideas or information.
  17. Thanks for the reply guys, but that didn't help. I am aware that the stock Datsun is a SPDT switch, however the Eclipse unit is not. It incorporates an integral electronic wiper delay mechanism within the combo switch housing. So, the wires that come out of it are alien as far as I am concerned. I have checked the public libraries with no luck (in BOTH counties). Rather than spend $25 dollars on a Chilton manual just for one diagram, and I don't own an Eclipse, i figured someone had the resource and would help me out.
  18. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the combination turn signal, wipers/head light switch assembly for a 1990 Mitsubishi Eclipse? The reason I need the help is that I am re-wiring my Z (from scratch) and I am using the Mitsubishi combination switch in favor of the stock Datsun one . So, I need to know exactly where the wires on this switch go to so that I can hook up everything properly. ANY help is deeply appreciated! Grog
  19. Thanks for the helpful information. Now, if I have this right: 240SX 4-lug rear rotors are a bolt on PROVIDED you use the Maxima 810 (year??) rear caliper bracket AND (possibly) the rear calipers themselves? OR>>> use the 84-85 N/A 300ZX rear rotor for either caliper set-up? My issue is that I am keeping the factory Z 14" 5-slot magensium rims and I want rear disk breaks to stop that Pontiac motor momentum. I know about the 280ZX rear brake conversion but I am looking at more choices. I don't think the Ross C set-up will work but it may. [Ross - if you are reading this chme in please. Grog
  20. Does anyone know if the rear rotors off of a 89-96 4-lug 240SX will fit on the stubs of the 240/260/280Z cars?
  21. Has anyone tried the LED bulbs offered by Summit Racing? They are stock replacements for the 1156 & 1157 series bulbs, and rund around 10 buck per bulb. I have considered using them for the taillights, but before I drop any cash I think its wise to ask around and get some feedback. I haven;t seen this specific topic raised in previous posts, just some cross-talk on LED modifications to the rear taillight assembly. If these work well, well then the benefits gained are immediately realized. Grog
  22. Doug, They were from a four door, front driver and passenger sides. Grog
  23. I think if you keep your options open, and are not to particular about originality, there are a wide number of weatherstripping options available. For instance, I use the door seals off a 90-92 Hyundai Elantra. I just happened to be poking around one of the local wrecking yards one fine weekend, and the seals on these cars looked just like the stock Datsun ones. Believe me, I looked hard at them and couldn't detect a discernable difference between the two. So, I grabbed them for five bucks and stuck them on the Z. They work perfectly, with no leaks and the doors shut like it came from the factory. I run up to Carlisle, PA during the swap meets and pick weatherstripping up from some of the vendors. It's hit or miss, but usually a hit and the seals are much cheaper. I have a few Sof-Seal pieces that would work for a few areas. Grog.
  24. Zfan, could you provide a reference picture of the Hammershifter install in your Z?I would appreciate seeing a finished look. All, I think there has been some confusion based on a few of the replies I have seen based on my original post. The shifters I am refering to are automatics; the Hammershifter et al are similar to the popular Megashifter, albeit it is small to fit into late model 'Stangs and Camaros/Firebirds. If anyone has a automatic shifter they have used with good results AND retain the stock console, please weigh in. Thanks everyone, I appreciate the feedback. Grog
  25. Has anyone successfully installed the console style B&M Megashifter or Hammer shifter in their Z, while retaining the stock console? The Hurst Quarterstick needs no introduction, but I thought that either B&M console shiftyer might be an attractive alternative. Thoughts/coments/recommendations? Grog
