  1. Hey everyone, I have been reading up on some stuff and it appears that the tokico springs for the 280z are linear and are around 185f and 200r. Would it be possible to cut say 1-2 coils off of these springs (depending on desired hieght) and install them on a 240z? More so what im asking is how much would it increase the spring rate and would they still be able to be used with the tokico illuminas which max at like 250-275ish. Or would it just be easier/cheaper to pick up some AZ car springs and do the same. Coilovers are not out of the question, but I would just need to find a cheaper way of building my own. Would anyone know where to source parts to build my own set of coilovers? (threaded collars, etc).

  2. I gave some Wax and grease remover a try today and it did a pretty good job on the rear strut towers. Some of the paint is on there pretty well though (seats and other plastic pieces), so I think tomorrow im going to give some mineral spirts a try then wipe with soap and water.

  3. Hey everyone, when I bought my car there was a light blue overspray on a large majority of the interior panels. What would you guys suggest for cleaning this off? I was thinking paint thinner or turpintine but wasn't sure if it would be to strong as to damage the door panels, seats, and other trim panels. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks, Elliot.

  4. The audio quality on the video isn't the best.. Makes it kinda hard to hear what it actually sounds like. What are your impressions? You like the sound? Too loud? Not loud enough?? What size are the pipes? 2.5? I was thinking about picking this up or just making a set of my own with some dynomax ultraflo mufflers.

  5. Aren't the cosmo coilovers the cheap ebay ones? I'd suggest you invest your money in a proper coilover kit like the modern motorsports or ground control setup. Did you section your strut tubes? That could be the reason why the car is sitting so high. Also, a front and rear sway bar might help stiffen the car up some, but its really a matter of personal taste. Something like a 1" front and 3/4" rear. What are your goals with the car? If its just a street car some nice lowering springs and struts will probably be fine. Check out eibach, suspension techniques, or tokico lowering springs and tokico illuminas for struts.

  6. Try adjusting the rod connected to the clutch pedal and the master cylinder. I moved mine pretty much all the way to the end of the rods travel and that fixed it for me. Also maybe try and loosen up the pedal stopper so the pedal comes up a little higher. The pedal should be like 8-8.5 inchs from the plate on the floor.

  7. ^^ Thats exactly what it was. I put the bar to the end of its range and loosened the stopper for more distance. The clutch engages pretty high thought, so maybe i can experiment some more to find the sweet spot. I really gotta get her tuned, the car seems to sputter or hesitate, its strange.

  8. The 240z trans doesnt have linkage, it uses a gear box and the shifter connects right into it. I know if I put the car in gear and start it its going to pull me forward. The car will roll around fine with the car in neutral as I have pushed it in and out of the garage. I just wanna drive my car again and I cant seem to figure out what the problem is. I think I might just replace the clutch master cylinder and go from there.

  9. Hey everyone, I recently replaced the tranny in my 240z and I cant seem to get it into gear. The tranny shifts fine with the car off, but once I turn it on I can't enter any gear and reverse grinds. I replaced the Slave cylinder, but I wasn't quite sure exactly where it needs to be adjusted (gravity bled it cause I didnt have another person). The car doesn't seem to have much if any pedal pressure, and looking at the clutch master cylinder from in the car there seems to be a little bit of fluid coming from the stopper. I recently filled the front resevoir of the brake master cylinder and now its competely empty. Would this cause a lack in pedal pressure? What are your thoughts? I am thinking about replacing the Clutch Master and the Master cylinder, but what do you think? Any help would be greatly apprciated.

    Thanks, Elliot.

  10. Hey everyone, I'm looking to do some suspension work to my 1972 240z and I just can't decided on which way to go. I am really looking for a set of 225f/250r springs but I cant seem to find any. Is there anywhere that offers custom spring rates? I don't have the money to do a coilover setup, even though I really want to.. I'd like to run these springs with a set of Tokico Illuminas or something that is adjustable. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks, Elliot.

  11. Looking at getting some 16X8 +04 offset panasports with 245/45/16 tires. Will this set up work? A 245/40/16 might work as well. Anyone running this setup? I'm assuming that the rear fenders will need to rolled, but will they hit anything else? I will probably be going with a set of lowering springs in the 225f/250r range with some Tokico Illumina shocks (non coilover). I'd rather the coilovers, but I just dont have the money for them at the moment. What do you guys think?

  12. Yup, thats what it was. They must have put a starter in it at some point because it has a Bosch starter. I didnt even know that they were on the wrong places lol. I'm real glad that it was something as simple as this cause it saved me lots of money that I don't have to spend. :)

  13. Well the power isn't leaving the solenoid.. The + on the battery isn't connected to anything except for that. I get no power to the fuseable link and no power to the spade when I turn the key to start. I can tap the solenoid on the battery and it will work tho.. so that means that when I turn the key that its not supplying the 12v it needs to engage the starter? Power should be coming from the solenoid side of the fuseable link though, but its not... By the time I figure this out I will be bald..

  14. I don't get power to any of the fuses unless that coil wire is hooked up. NOTHING gets power without that wire and even some things don't with it on. I checked all the fuses not long ago and they were all fine (checked with a light tester). I just had the car running with the coil wire hooked up and the gauges would only go on in I believe the ACC position, when I turned to on they would go off. Someone come over and help me out.. lol.

  15. Ok, well I tested to see if when you turn the key to start if the spade connector would light up on the light tester, nothing. Check everywhere else on the car.. no power. This is with all the wires hooked up how they should be. I know that power is going into the solenoid, but every other connection on the solenoid has no power (fuseable link and the exposed piece that connects to the starter itself. So if im getting no power to anything else with the correct wires hooked up then im in need of a new solenoid? What would be your guess?
