I'm 6'1", and I'm basically maxing out the headroom in my 240, but that's more because the seats are mounted higher than stock.
Other than that, plenty of room in the Z.
-
yah, I love how people don't realize just how little anonymity there is on the internet. Hell, realistically, not having pictures would only have slowed people down by maybe 3 hours at most.
-
Ah, if only the garage didn't already have a project Z in it...
-
Ahahaha.....man, I really want to get out to one of those races these days...
-
So can tell me what the deal with this microsquirt box is? It *seems* like it takes a bunch of the guess work out of things, entailing only that I connect the correct sensors to the correct wires...is this correct?
And, correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems from reading that I could actually install all of the MS equipment, wire up all the senders, and get used to the read-outs, trouble shoot most things, etc, before swapping over the actual EFI hardware, correct?
-
I run BP6ES plugs on my rebby motor and they run flawlessly as far as I can tell. part 7333.
Cold starts/cruising/etc (still gotta get places when it's 36 out) all the way to wailing on it when it's hot out (110+ ambient), never had a spark related issue.
-
I'm kind of the same way. My Z is my DD, and I've got *no* backup, at all (well, I do...but it doesn't have an engine or interior yet). I want to go electronic for the increased ease of use and economy, but as it is, I just can't let my car be down for the length of time that I suspect I would take to get the damn thing running. Hell, I don't even bother changing jets b/w seasons (~35F right now, summers will hit 110+), I just retune as much as possible, and leave it at that (though that is why I'm considering switching to a Holley setup)
I don't suppose there are any guys on here that could either put together a "HBZer MS Kit" or something similar for those of us that want MS controlled L series engines, but don't have the time/knowledge to do a complete install/wire up/assembly ourselves.
-
And unlike some threads, I'm not even sure how you would find this thread....
-
Gotta be honest, every time I see a well done holley carb setup on a Z, I'm *this* close to running out to my Z, removing the mikunis, and dropping one in in their place. Ease of tuning, cheap parts, could go to any shop to tune....
Looking forward to more info on your build. Maybe a gas mileage report (some people won't care, but I always like to know).'
Also, why the water/air rather than air/air intercooler?
-
worth far, far more if you find HLS30-00517's owner I'm thinking
-
That is the information that I am looking for, Who what were when and how.
If you want to pay me a lot of money I will see if I can reproduce them.
Sorry, LD swap is being done with a "cheap = good" philosophy.
-
Damn...the more I think about that oiling system, the more it seems to be the solution I'm looking for on my LD...anyone know about what the price on the pan + pump housing combo would be?
-
Hmmmm....that oil pan setup gives me some ideas for my LD swap....
-
Well.....How set are you on a 2JZ or RB2x? Because if all you want is a straight six, I think Mag58 can tell you about an engine that can either scream to 10k or be a torque monster, made almost 500whp on not that much boost with a bad tune (on a stock block), and can be had for not all that much $$...
-
So tony, if I'm reading your comments right...if the boost pressure stops rising before the point at which the WG should keep it at, the issue is that the head and cam are out flowing the turbo at that point? And to fix it the only thing you can really do is to get a bigger compressor side?
And just how destructive is it to the turbo to run at that point?
-
Who's on Bob's account, now??
I think he was actually staying on topic, and decided *not* to push the M104 for once.
Not that it matters, he's already gotten to me with it
-
Mag, good news. Still on the road, but I'll message you in a bit
-
Yah, the most common answer to "how do I get more power" seems to be "swap in a 500". They like power, they just like low engine power alot more then we do.
Mag, going to be hitting the road in a bit, should have some answers for you when next on the computer.
-
If I was contemplating a japanese I-6 swap, I'd look at one thing: hp/$. In that regard, I'd say the 2jz wins. First off, as you mention, it's going to be a fair bit cheaper to get started on the swap. Also, it was USDM, so finding parts and the like is going to be easy, *and* if it matters, it'll most likely be smoggable.
-
Hey, no problem Mag. I figure since you turned me towards these motors with that L head thread, the least I can do is tap into the knowledge base that's a 10 minute drive down the road.
The trans stuff he'll be able to help out with no sweat, less sure about the cam stuff, but he'll know where to start.
Oh, and LIS, the problem that Mag and I have found is that while there are a number of cams for this engine, they are all geared toward people with MBs...which means they won't accept something that barely idles
-
Mag, I'll be finding out about cams and those two trans you were looking for tomorrow. Got the day off work (thank god), so I should be able to get a fair bit done.
Also, no reply from rebello yet :/

NEED UPDATES! haha this thread is like crack, you just keep coming back! Love the swap and now i am thinking about maybe going down this route in the future.
I don't think he has any updates. Last word I got was he's (and I, for that matter) were looking for someone that'll do wild enough cams.
-
Damn that sucks man. I'll keep an eye out in case it heads into the central valley.
Makes me glad I'm parked in by my housemates when I'm not awake...
-
There's hardly any Z32's here in Indiana, much less a spare trans for one...
If you really want one for the M104 (if I can't find a good source for the other trans), I'll keep an eye out.

Guess you haven't been following his threads. Mercedes Benz M104 engines. Anywhere from 2.8 to 3.6 liters. The 2.8's have a fairly small stroke, while the 3.6s use diesel cranks that are far more impressive than those found on Z cars.
I suspect that there are going to be one or two build threads for M104 powered Zs in the not too distant future...
