like it says I've got flat tops, but want dished for my turbo application. These were pulled from a rebuilt engine I got lucky enough to find at a junk. The cylinders they came out of have obviously just been honed, and as you can see, the rings look brand new, as do the pistons after cleaning. they are stock diameter, Would like to trade for like new dished, newer the better. rods or not is up to you i guess. would also like stock diameter, but if they were over, i would assume your block is too, so my slugs would be useless to you. Would consider selling to someone local (southern GA, northern FL), but would much rather trade. PMs will email straight to my phone. Thanks Val

have you priced having one made with any local fabricators?
-
edit: this thread belongs in the shed - crimson, i recomend you start from scratch with another thread for the record, i don't have any interest in a cf dash, but if you just had them made as cheap as you could, and sold, say ten of them in the vendors forum for anywhere from 400 to 800, they would probably sell in days.
-
you guys are the best - I think I'm going to try to put about 15 lbs on these pistons - more if someone convinces me to do something silly, but it seems the consesus that the weak spot in the setup will be a 50 dollar head gasket... Need to order a fuel rail and an MS2 soon... edit: p.s. what would the roughened area of piston look like if it was forged? smooth?

what are the indicators?
-
higher res available by request... so what are these things? (new problem btw - i sacked all these things in ziplock bags for shipping, then sharpied the bag with piston number... engine oil ate my sharpie, and now i'm not sure which is which... wtf do i do about that?)
-
they all have the number 7 cut into them, and they all look brand new. I'll upload pics if i can.

if one were to buy a rebuilt engine from the picknpull, without being able to talk to thc rebuilder, how would one (not me, a friend of mine...) identify a forged set of pistons from not? 300whp is my target, so this thread caught my eye. I've been planning on purchasing forgcd if mine turned out not to be, but if I can move ahead on my project with what I have than super.... but, how do I know what I have? Val

Every ACL/MCL is different - some people tear that ACL and don't even know they did it till much later - I was walking again, bearing weight in 2-3 weeks after tearing ACL - I was out to sea again (I'm in the navy) 2 weeks after that - a year later I still haven't had the surgery Anyway, back to the thread - the love of JDM , I fully support tail swap, if my opinion counts. The lines of the S30 are so classic they'll never go out of style, but some of the auxiliary stuff (tail lights, seats, maybe the dash/console) could use an update from decade to decade. This is after all a hybrid site, so, in Horatio's case, the ford tails with the Chevy engine - appropriate. Horatio, BTW, excellent job so far. I have an old welder in my garage I've never even turned on, so I don't know the first thing, but I can appreciate the work. My current idea for tails is something much smaller, i.e. the tails from a Chevy z71 or something. Essentially, it'd be similar to the mustang swap, if you only used the outermost of the three sections of the tail. Add in a white stripe for reverse, and there you go. Doing something with all the negative space in the middle of course becomes an issue, but looking at what's happening over here (http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=145286), there are lots of good ideas and inspirations to combine out there. I think the blacked out 300zx tail is classy too... Val

man that is so frickin awesome. I know zero about welding, but isn't there anything you can do with heat to help you curve the metal? Maybe it only applies to smaller stuff, but i thought you could use it to constrict. Also, what are you plans for exhaust? I picture two tips at least?
-
can't wait till tonight - need somebody in jax who can weld so i can 100% steal this idea. (joking - somewhat...)
-
any pics of his work? - that sounds cool
-
can't wait to see how this is going - i wish i had the skill required to steal this idea

As I said, I understand that but IMHO, I think that there may be ways to cope with that loss - i.e. backing up critical data, moving/locking threads (once somewhat dead of course), or even just identifying that data, and quoting it to a stickied thread so it no longer 'belongs' to the original person, so to speak. This has been discussed a bit here:http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=143551&highlight=thread+editing But, I wanted to offer up some examples in an effort to allow the thread creator to edit his/her own posts, in particular, post number one. I don't know much about vbull, but I am a member of the XDA forums, and they have allowed for the thread creator to edit posts, thread title, etc. On that forum, this comes in handy, because whenever a ROM (phone OS), or piece of software is released, any fixes/patches/updates are included in the first thread and title. I.e., when software X v .01 is released, and later (post 213 in the thread) v.02 is released, the title and first post can be edited to reflect this. On hybrid, there are several examples I can think of where this would be of use: In a "lot" thread, where user X posts 20 items up for sale in the classifieds, at post 16 user Y posts a request for an update, or a "do you still have this post". The ability to edit for thread creator allows first post to reflect that he only has 16 items left, which avoids posts like that. Many users have a "members project" thread, to have a well organized thread that only they can edit - to avoid, i suppose, thread hijacking. However, often the same member will have a build thread located elsewhere, because they also enjoy the feedback from the group. The ability to edit first post would allow someone to make chronological entries in the first post, and to get feedback/answer questions from everybody else. Also, for threads that members post to ask simple questions, after the answer is found, they can edit first post to include it. I.E. post 1 says "what year Z had XXX" and answer:1974 with a link to answer in post 17. This would also prevent comments from those who simply refuse to read an entire thread, reading to page three, and then posting to page 8 to ask a question that was answered on page 4. I'm sorry if the points I've brought up here have already been discussed off site, or otherwise, but although this might allow for users to take vital info with them when they leave, there are also steps to take to prevent that. A thread with information that is clearly important, or a large collection of data could be stickied and locked. Perhaps a wiki (maybe similar to the one available at xda-developers) could be created for information to be posted to that cannot be so easily edited. Thanks in advance Val

this needs to be added to a wiki or something somewhere

I am thinking I might buy a fusion control centre, and I am also looking into the arduino (sp?) board, to look at automating as much as possible, and replacingeverything but the metal (and a little bit of that too). As far as I can tell, the only things that must have phsical user input is the turn signals, and the intense brake light. However, my intention is to have everything else be computer controlled, HVAC, windows, lighting and all. Oh, and I've bought every book on the Z I could find through regular bookstores, and i think it should be all i need, but I'm also scouring used bookstoes, and ebay for other stuff. Thanks Val

i think I'm planning on rewiring the whol car entirely? Has anybody else out there done this, with daily driving in mind? Also, thanks to everyone for the advice so far. I'm writing down at least one thing from every post on a 'remember to do this' list in my garage. Any MS'rs from the Jacksonville area? Val
-
Well, technically i work with electronics for a living, but on a scale of 1-5 my soldering skill level is at a two. However, i will go without the stimulator then. As for the car, i'll be putting this on a 77 FI Z, with (I think) an 81 ZX engine. I was going for the relays, because i am kind of assuming ripping out all current wiring, and replacing everything. Is this a bad idea? I mean, i was going to make new wiring for the headlights, and the carputer is being designed with controlling everything in mind. Can you give me the cliff notes on these? or a link to the thread (I'll go looking anyway, but thank if you do) From what I can tell though, at the least I'm buying the right unit from the right people, so at least i can safely purchase that, and leave wiring decisions, etc. for later. The install is months down the road, and I'm trying to get high dollar stuff (>$50-100) out of the way while i have the change to do it. Thanks guys Val

I've got a car earmarked tax return waiting to get spent. However, I'm dry firing every time i visit DIYautotune to buy the stuff. Even though I've been reading about this stuff for months, I'm just not sure I'm buying what I need. I'm putting up a list of what i got, and what I'm about to buy. Please pick it apart so I can order stuff today, because if I don't spend this money, it will disappear to buy windows treatments and to eat out every day for a month. I have an f54 block with a p79 head sitting on my garage floor, and an n42 block/n42 head sitting in the car. I plan on having my manifold shaved/modified (w48 and an n47) I've already ordered 1986-93 7MGTE TOYOTA SUPRA TURBO FUEL INJECTORS REMAND. (449 cc) I have a donor p4 laptop, with a busted screen (sony vaio pcg-921l), no serial, usb only) i ordered a 7 inch touchscreen Lilliput 7" EBY701-NP/C/T VGA Touch screen +free ship, and a slot load USB Slim External Slot Load DVD / CD-RW COMBO I plan to build a carputer while I'm at it. I've also ordered NISSAN 280ZX 81 82 83 L28E FULL GASKET SET NFSL28L, and I believe the pistons are stock diameter flat topped. My shopping cart over at DIYautotune looks like this: MegaSquirt-II EMS System - SMD PCB3.57 - Assembled Unit $405.00 MegaSquirt Relay Board - Assembled Unit $88.00 12' MegaSquirt Wiring Harness (MS1 / MS2 Ready) $65.00 Innovate LC-1 Digital Wideband Controller with Sensor $199.00 MegaSquirt Stimulator v2.2 - Assembled Unit I also am looking at pallnet rails over at freewebs.com/pallnet. Here's my list of questions... 1. is diy the right place to buy? 2. my plan is for spark as well. any recommendations on what to purchase? (I'm thinking coil on plug, but want suggestions on an easy set up) 3. I'm trying to purchase high dollar stuff (anything over $50 that i couldn't pick up any old time) - what am I missing? 4. Anybody recommend microsquirt? why or why not? 5. any suggestion on a pallnet rail? i think i need this: -6 14MM L28 FUEL RAIL 6. I am on the fence about whether or not to turbo, so i'd like to hear opinions on that based on close to 300 whp, and based on my desire for reliability. (I know it's expensive, but I'm trying to do everything right the first time) Any opinons on using MS with turbo, or with turbo types/sizes on the L6 appreaciated. I think I want to drive daily on 12-15 pounds, but have the ability to dial it higher. 7. Should i buy this stuff? what did i forget? I have all replies being forwarded to my phone, so expect a quick response from me. Like I said, I'm trying to purchase today. Thanks in advance Val (more infor on my engine here http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=141240)
