  1. Good, what's up?

  2. how are you doing Valmont?

  3. my ad - willcome with rods only because they are still attached. http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/98816-l28et-accessories/page__p__926915__fromsearch__1#entry926915
  4. Disregard my question i guess, cause the "manage watched topics" section in the user cp is okay i guess. Just wish it was easier to get to, and able to be organized. MOD, feel free to delete this thread, unless someone has something to add. Val
  5. Can someone point me to a more in-depth way to view watched threads? Perhaps something similar to the old VBull screen with the ability to organize? I used to keep dozens of threads on the subscribed list, and now the only way i see to view them is a little tickler on the lower right of the forum home page. Thanks. Val
  6. I posted about this same topic at this thread when we were still on vBulletin, and basically got a hell no response. However I'm very thankful that maybe a made some dent, as we are now (i believe) able to do this in the classifieds. I suggest that perhaps there may be a way to request that a mod unlock a thread for editing by the thread owner, i.e. sticky threads, write-ups, or build threads, and that perhaps it could be done on a case by case basis, and for a certain amount of time, i.e. 24 hrs. So, for example, for the seat swap thread, you could PM BRAAP or someone, and say, her i want to throw in a couple of new entries from car x, y and z, and they could unlock it for 24 hours. That way, next week when someone pisses you off so bad you want to leave the forum, you can no longer take your seat swap thread with you. Val
  7. Microsoft/Brickfish is currently holding a contest, the winner of which will have his/her app idea created and distributed for free by Microsoft for their upcoming windowsphone7 series of phones (and some money and swag). My video submission: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9zD7XQQnfNA Now before you ask, I didn't use my Z because: it's gutted it's stripped and primered i wanted to use a car that came stock with bluetooth onboard My app has climbed from the 1200's to currently being ranked number 45. With only a few days left, I need a lot of help to push it to the top spot. If you like it, please vote for me by visiting the Microsoft Dashboard Entry, and feel free to spread it around. You can vote every 24 hours, and any help will be appreciated. Thanks guys. Val (p.s. my birthday is this week... I'm just sayin... )
  8. I guess you would have to back down to LT1 to stay in the 2k for engine/tranny range, but there's 1 or 2 98 camaros on CL around where i live for 3-3.5k
  9. Keep in mind, I posted this in the gen III and IV forums, and although I'd like inputs from other SBC owners, LS1 is my main concern. Also, That thread started almost 10 years ago, and a lot of these parts have either gotten a lot cheaper due to mass production, or rarer with time. In addition, I'll be more specific (like in the thread you pointed to) and ask what is normally spent, or what you specifically spent on installing the engine only, not on any rebuilds that were necessary, or upgrades you opted to do. Thanks for your input Janaka - nice build thread, and exactly the kind of thing I was looking for. Val
  10. I'm currently getting set up for an L28 w/turbo conversion, and have everything I need with the exception of turbo, piping, and fuel management. However I'm considering making the swap to SBC. I'm thinking I might sell all my l28 related stuff and see if I can find a good deal on a SBC, preferably LS1. So, assuming I located, say, a 98 camaro that's been rolled, or an LS1 with tranny and wiring for like 2 grand, what would the average cost be for everything else I would need for making this swap work? I'd like a bunch of answers, as I figure some guys will think of things that others didn't, and then I'll ask a mod to update first post with average figures, so this can be an easily searchable topic, or maybe a sticky. I guess this will also apply to the other sbc forums, so even if you don't have an LS1, please drop your two cents. Thanks Val

  12. Would you be able by any chance to post up some pics of your install? I'm interested in particular about the mechanism that detects wheelover for the turn signal off. Val
  13. Any pics? Curious as to where you put the rocker. (assuming you used a rocker for the turns)
  14. So, I've decided on a pretty eclectic resto mod that simplifies the interior as much as possible - my focus will be on putting as much interface and information on an embedded carpc, hopefully to include lighting, HVAC, and auxiliary electrical systems. The thing I can think of a great way around however, are the stalks on the side of the steering wheel... Well, you can pretty much get rid of the right one - replace it with just switches if you like, as there isn't necessarily a need for it to be on the wheel. The turn signals however kind of need to be there - it's intuitively where any driver will look for that kind of functionality. I toyed around with the idea of fabricating some kind of paddle shifter-esque setup, but it just isn't as easy to use as the stalk signal. So I've been looking into Universal turn signal switches (stalk like ones), which seem to be marketed more towards truckers and hotrodders, like these: http://automotive-hardware.com/universal-turn-signal-switch-black-p-307.html http://www.vehiclesafetymfg.com/products/p_999282L.gif So, I'm wondering how many fellow hybrid Zr's have any experience with these products, if so, if there are any recommendations, horror stories, etc. Thanks Val
  15. Could it be because the center of the tire is (because of centrifugal force) the only "guaranteed" point of contact with the ground? Val
  16. Hope I didn't scare anybody off of this thread - I promote this tech fully, planning both on running a PC and a mobile device (of some kind, not sure which one yet) as permanent installations in my Z. You may ask why a "mobile" device for "permanent" install, and to that I say built in interfaceable GPS, intuitive touchscreens, and both the iPhone and winmo phones have a mobile version of google earth (iPhone stomps the winmo however). Active GPRS connection, meaning internet on the go, and onstar like tracking ability. If you haven't considered it yet, you should. Shoot I used mine for a speedo for a couple of weeks while I was having electrical problems. Either way, didn't mean to make an uncomfortable thread. Val
  17. anyone find anything on the ratio of sizes of the dimple and the dimpled object?
  18. lol - I saw this and was amazed - i understand the effect of the dimples, but am still having a hard time understanding the why - they said several time in the episode that they had explained that, but man i DVRd it and rewound several times... and no real explanation. Val
  19. Can't wait till mine looks like that - i've got a lot of metal to replace first tho.
  20. Are these NOS or fiberglass or what?
  21. doesn't regenerative braking (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regenerative_braking) and kinetic energy recovery (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHPrOloikVE) do a bit of what you want KROz? Val
  22. By no means was my post intended to be an "iphone sucks" post, although I could see how that conclusion would be drawn. However, I bought my wife an iphone, and recently convinced my mom to buy one for herself, my dad and sister for Christmas. I'll be the first to say, that good ol' Steve Jobs did not allow a less then perfect device to be put on the market, with an easy to use, intuitive interface, a web browser that dominated all others (at the time). However, coming across posts titled in such a way to make iphones sound like they turn SMS into wine grates me a bit - iPhones dominate the market because they can appeal to the majority, but not because they're necessarily the best. Before I get into this, I'd like to post something useful (I hadn't noticed when i first posted that this was in the blowers subforum - i made the obviously bad assumption that i was responding in a non-tech forum, otherwise I would have avoided sparking debate, or hijacking the thread): iPhone http://www.innovatemotorsports.com/products/ot2.php http://devtoaster.com/products/rev/index.html http://www.palmerperformance.com PalmOS http://www.qcontinuum.org/obdgauge/ http://www.auterraweb.com/dynokitsnohotsync.html http://www.autoenginuity.com/public_html/products-scantoolpalm.html http://www.troublecodes.net/articles/AT/palm/ http://www.auterraweb.com/software.html http://www.laplogger.com/products.shtml http://www.obdkey.com/vehiclediagnostics.asp http://www.tradebit.com/filedetail.php/8624485-obd2-obdii-car-automotive-diagnostic-software-palm http://www.obd2.com/palm/palm.htm http://pocketlogger.com/index.php?pid=faq_pda_comp Blackberry http://www.blackberrytoday.com/software/rim1/LapLogger_BB-2009-4-15-rim-rim1.html http://www.laplogger.com/products.shtml Pocket PC/Windows Phones http://www.autoenginuity.com/products-scantoolppc.html http://www.laplogger.com/products.shtml http://www.obdkey.com/vehiclediagnostics.asp http://www.obd-ii.de/screenam.html#ppc http://www.autologicco.com/p_obd.html http://www.obd2.com/win_ce/ppc_scantool.htm http://www.qcontinuum.org/obdgauge/ http://www.glmsoftware.com/Downloads1.aspx http://speedometermaster.com/ http://www.geocities.com/a_ser_files/ Java based - will work with almost all phones http://auto-mobile.ca/index.html So, I hope someone downloads and tries out some of the free software, or in some cases purchase the packages (a lot of these are bundled either with a proprietary cable, or with a bluetooth xmitter of some kind). If you're not interested in my mobile soapbox please read no further, otherwise back to... Like I said before, it's not a hatred for the iphone, but a dislike for the way apple does business, and the mindset that some people have towards them i.e. "iPhone users get it all". The reason I say that there must be so many more, is not based merely in any kind of affinity towards Microsoft - it's based on the fact that the current incarnation of windows mobile (6.5 as of the release of the HTC Pure and HTC Tilt 2 on the AT&T Network), is based on OS's that have been around since 1994 in the Windows CE era. Many programs written on platforms as far back as the late ninety's are 100% compatible with any windows phone, from any of the major carriers that you could buy today. So, where iphone users have available to them 20 some thousand apps from the app store at itunes, ranging from promising software like rev (mentioned above) to apps that make you sound like T-Pain ( ), windows phone users (and others) have available to them a decade worth of software; apps that never made it out of beta, apps produced by the wireless carriers, apps produced by the phone manufacturers, and even apps produced by the iphone app makers. The iPhone must be 'jail broken' to make use of any app not approved by apple. As for the 'windows phones' simply check out http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/devices/devices.mspx for the latest available (there have been hundreds of incarnations), and pick your screen size, whether or not you want onboard GPS, or a touchscreen, or a sliding keyboard, or a 5 MP camera, or no camera at all? After that, head over to: http://microsoft.handango.com/PlatformSoftware.jsp?siteId=75&platformId=2 http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ http://www.pocketpcfreeware.com/en/ or http://www.1800pocketpc.com/ to get you started with software.
