Let me know if you want to make a deal on the motor and tranny.
- Greg -
I'd really like to see the car go as a whole.
u coming back wif another zee anytime soon?!
This will probably be it for a while. I just turned 24, want to buy a house, etc. etc. So the Z hobby is put on hold.
-
What price did you have in mind?
I'd like to get 6K out of it. Would be thrilled to get more. Wouldn't be surprised to get less. All the work (motor-wise) was just done. That turbo and most of the mods done to the engine are new (as in...I've driven it maybe a week with that stuff on it). I might get more if I parted it out, but I don't have the time/energy to mess with it and would like to see it gone whole.

Has 240K on the body, around 50K on the SR (guestimation). Only rust spots of note are on the lip of the hood and the spare tire well. Been 6 years since it was painted, but it still shines.

Well, after getting a new oil pan, new turbo, injectors, ECU tune, etc...my SR still has a prob. Apparently this engine was oil starved badly enough to where I have some internal damage. Rod knock just became noticable after my upgrades. I don't have the time/money to dump into the car anymore and I'm trying to buy a house.
So I think this is it. How much do you all think I can get for it in it's current condition?

I'll definitely be in attendance. I live just an hour and a half south of Daytona.
-
Yeah...I should probably play a little less. My Z would like some more attention I'm sure.
Got a 60 druid, 60 mage, and a 45 shaman.
-
did they set the engine back against the firewall and you still had to get a custom oil pan made?
That would seem to be the case. Could it have to do with the differences between the Z's and the ZX's?
-
hey chris isnt your or was it at mazworx?
thought it looked familiar.
Yes it is right now. It's getting a custom aluminium oil pan made.
-
there is no how-to for this engine swap. Most all are custom fabricated mounts, trans mounts and driveshaft.
And oil pan.

Check with your old buddy James...
http://www.speedshopthagard.com and see what he can do for you as well...
Yeah, me and James talked yesterday. I'll be purchasing from him. Thanks for the responses.

Time to upgrade. This is the turbo I want. GT2871R .64 A/R internally gated. It'll fit my current manifold, I have a Z32 MAF + adapter already, ordering my 740cc injectors in a few days (http://www.deatschwerks.com/nissan41.htm), and a local guy is going to do the ROM tune for me.
My question is...who is a reputable turbo dealer? I've found prices online varying from 1000 to 1600. My buddy Coz and a friend at Import Parts Pro both quoted around 1250. Is that the magic number? Thoughts? Suggestions?
-
Valve stem seals I can deal with.
New turbo...okay maybe.
But if it's a head gasket...I'm going to blow one (pun intended).
I'm no mechanic, what's the best way to figure out which is the culprit?
-
When I turn on my SR20 turbo motor in the morning, I get some white smoke out the exhaust. I account that to the dew/humidity (yay Florida) and the fact that the car needs to warm up. While going through the normal RPM range, no white smoke is to be seen. However, if I idle for more than 30 seconds, it seems that I start to get a constant (but not large amount) stream of white smoke until I start going through the RPM range again. I've checked my oil (white smoke though, so I doubt that's the problem), coolant/water levels and everything seems to be fine. Only other smoke I get is at WOT, where I get a bit of black smoke (but I account that to running a little rich and burning some fuel).
I've heard a few things from blown head gasket to dying turbo. Car seems to run just fine though at the moment. Can't see any oil or anything in my water or vice versa. I'll be buying a compression tester this weekend to test that out. It was also suggested that I take it out on the highway for 15 mins...come back and let it idle and see if it produces the same results.
Any other thoughts/suggestions?

Thanks for the responses.
I still don't have the car back yet, a couple small issues came up (tach wasn't working, new throttle cable, etc.). Might get it today or tomorrow. I'll have to get back to you on the IC dimensions, as I'm not 100% sure. As far as IC placement and the like, I let them handle everything. As I said, 13 months it's been there...at this point I want the car back so I can enjoy it.
Don't know if I'll make it to SEZS, I think I have a wedding in Jax to be at the same weekend. Even if it wasn't that weekend, still probably wouldn't make it...it's a long drive from my new location (Vero Beach) and I'm not as young as I used to be.
P.S. Heard there was something going on this weekend in Gainesville though. Might check it out. Also, hope everyone is thinking about ZCon next year...as it is in Daytona and only about an hour from where I live.

After being rearended, fighting insurance companies (they wanted to total it), getting body work, and finally getting someone to do this swap for me...it is almost complete. The car has been at ZFever for 13 months, I haven't driven it in over 21 months. The car should be delivered to me this afternoon, he just has a couple of small things to finish up (boost controller, guage, new speedo, etc.). Onto the pictures!

Nice work. White is such a good color

MSA doesn't have them stocked...at least that's the word. I forgot about Victoria British, but they also have them listed:
http://www.victoriabritish.com/features/z/ZBD3.htm
This might be an option. Why does it seem like these are still too cheap? As I said, the body guy I trust said Nissan had them listed as around $700 a pop when they stocked them. Either that was ridiculous or...
-
Thanks for the replies. Yes, I need both sides unforunately...and will be straightening the body regardless I did run into the TABCO site and see that they had them posted. Anyone had any experience with them? The price seems almost too good to be true. I was expecting closer to $700 a panel, or at least that's what the body shop guy said the quote from Nissan was when they used to stock them.
-
Welp, don't know if the insurance company is going to pay up or not...but regardless, I'm probably still going to fix my Z. I've been trying to find rear quarter panels for it, without much luck. MSA and Nissan don't stock them anymore. A lot easier to find them for the earlier Z models, but not the ZX. So anyone know where I might look for some? Besides a junk yard? Thanks.
P.S. Any chance there are some out there that are lighter in weight...like aftermarket...fiberglass or another material? Thanks again.

Once again, I was at a complete stop. Some girl wasn't paying attention in her Mazda 929 and decided to slam into me at at least 35 MPH. We were both okay. Her airbags deployed and hit her in the face...other than that, her car wasn't that badly damaged. My bumper is completely fucked. The frame of the bumper is dented in and pushed down. This pushed down my exhaust, etc. It also pushed in the frame on the driver's side to where I cannot shut my door all the way. Bumper is sitting in my passenger's seat/hatch. She has insurance, thankfully. Don't know if it's fixable...guess I'll find out tomorrow when I take it to the shop. Onto the pics, ignore the white shit all over the place...I don't know whats going on with that.
This sucks...majorly...again. If it's totalled... What do you guys think?
