  1. a grainy pic of my Drag DR-54's. I've got no complaints so far. sjd
  2. nope, I'm afraid I don't have knowledge to pass on. i just send mine out for rebuild. I wouldn't mind trying one someday... a place in atlanta called southern gear has a bearing/seal/etc rebuild kit. i'm still waiting for my rebuilt one to get back before I pull my mostly working one out. When i replaced the first one with a mostly working one, we drained the really bad one, and parts of bearing carrier came out on the drain magnet. OUCH! I have a picture somewhere...
  3. it's most likely the bearings inside the trans. I've had two. one was a TERRIBLE rhythmic clunk that would disappear when i pressed the clutch. the one in the car now has just started clunking. sjd
  4. Glad I'm not the only one... Saw this thread and was thinking "you guys eat and drink in your cars?? sjd
  5. Cold one today. A bunch of people seemed missing.
  6. With ANY centerlock setup, you should have a safety keeper. This can be a spring pin, a pair of little tines that pop out, a safety clevis, whatever keeps the nut on the hub even if it loosens up. I was a data guy and a mechanic on a professional lemans prototype race team, I have 'knock ons' on my austin healey (early center locks, oddly without keepers). The cobra replica guys who run center nuts on their halibrands safety wire them in place for street use. just my .02. sjd
  7. Here's a new one. Haven't gotten to the lowered suspension yet. sjd
  8. Drag dr-54 15x8.25 et0. 225/50-15 falkens. A tiny bit of rub in the rear. SJD

  15. I'm in Lawrenceville. Vengance, throw some details out on the meet. I'll drag the '71 out. sjd
  16. My backyard neighbor has 3 280's. it took 2 years to meet him, now we hang out regularly... I know Tim is on here, but dont' know his handle right off hand... sjd
  17. Here's a pic. i've got a whole new respect for guys who could hustle these cars as race cars....it's so fun, but they're made of foil compared to today's cars... sjd
  18. The battery box is super solid, but the RH front frame rail needs some attention. other than that, there's a couple little places, but nothing serious. I've done a couple of major reconstructions, this is nothing to worry about and one of the better Z's I've seen in a series 1. sjd
  19. I'm on bimmerforums, rarely though... steved033 is my internet presence. I have a 2000 323 5-speed Touring, and a 2006 M roadster. Others in the stable: 1957 Austin Healey 100-6, 1971 GTX, 1965 sprite (client car getting 1100cc motorcycle engine) Steve
  20. I'm not sure yet. First step is to get it solid and drivable. I definitely want to keep it straight 6, so maybe rb swap? Or BMW?? (I'm also a BMW guy).
  21. Hey everyone, I'm new here, and just thought I'd introduce myself. I just traded a 1994 Jeep Cherokee 4x2 for my z. it was in a suburb of Atlanta, and just sat in the guy's garage for about 8 years. It's a 12/70 build date '71 240, the paint was rough, and it had no front valance. It was originally silver, and a california automatic. Somewhere in it's 41 year history someone converted it to a 280 5 speed, put on the Enkeis and 245 sized BFGs. It got a good buffing, a new fiberglass valance, new bearings, seals, calipers, rotors, master cylinder, and is waiting on the installation of a new gearbox, as the one in it is pretty shagged. Steve
