  1. Another option may be use strut tubes from a 240 for the top half of the shortened 280 strut assemblies. The guy who is going to do the welding for me says he can do it, in spite of the difference in diameters. This would allow me to use the beefier 280 hubs AND the Bilsteins with the 240 gland nuts. I will have to buy a new set of threaded collars, since the 280 collars will be too large.
  2. I'll ask him, but judging by the "b36" portion of the part number, they are made to fit 36 mm Bilstein monotubes. The F4-P030-0032-MO strut inserts are 30 mm in diameter.
  3. Jack does not work there anymore. The new guy is Ramone. He was not there when I called; will try again tomorrow.
  4. I am fighting this same battle right now. I have 240 struts on the front, and 280's on the rear. I ordered the B30-629-Q1 gland nuts for the rears, but they are too small. I talked to John Williams in Atlanta a couple of days ago, and he remembered that he had to actually fabricate gland nuts for 280 struts in this same situation. He ended up using 280 gland nuts from Tokico and opening up the center hole to match the inside diameter of the threaded part. He then put a Bilstein gland nut on the lathe and turned it down to match the new I.D. on the Tokico gland nut, removing the threads a part of the cap portion. Finally, what remained of the Bilstein gland nut was Tig welded into the hole in the top of the Tokico gland nut. He cautioned that this had to be done extremely carefully so as not to damage the O-ring seal. He said it amounted to very quick spot welding, then cooling everything down with water or something like that. I have not yet tried this. I am weighing this against shortening some rear strut assemblies from a 240, and bolting 280 backing plates to the hubs so I can use the dual-piston drum brake cylinders. John also said the beafier 280 stub axles will work in the 240 hubs. Does anyone know if the 280 backing plates will bolt up to 240 hubs?
  5. Has anyone experimented with fabricating / attaching a splitter to the bottom edge of the air dam? I am thinking of adding that to the dam on the race car, but haven't gotten into materials or attachment methods yet.
  6. Clear something up for me. Are all of the photos of the B30-629 A1 nut? If so, after you cut the nut down to the proper length, did it fit the 240 or the 280 srut?
  7. I just ordered the Bilstein struts and gland nuts yesterday. My 240 has 280 rear struts, and the salesman at Bilstein said the tech guys told him the part number for the 280 strut gland nut is B4-B30-U232B1, and then said it's an M48 x 1.5 nut. I told them that the 280 strut is larger (I have read either M51 x 1.5 or M52 x 1.5; I need to go measure the gland nuts I have now for the Tokico struts I am replacing to see which is correct). The salesman assured me that he had given me the correct part number. I am just as sure that it will be wrong. The salesman at shox.com told me he would compare them to the 240 gland nuts to see if they are the same size before he ships them. From what you all are saying, I feel sure that I will be talking to Bilstein again to try and get the correct nut for my 280 struts.
  8. Dave, I would like to borrow your spindle pin puller as soon as you have one available. I sent you a PM also. Thanks.
  9. I read through this entire thread the other day, and never could find where anyone came back with the part number for the strut gland nuts for a 280Z. I tried a search and came up with nothing. Did anyone ever find out what the correct part number is?
  10. I have just finished reading through this entire thread (I agree with several of the posters that this is the best thread I have ever read about Z-cars), but I did not see where anyone ever came up with a part number for the 280Z gland nut. Is there any new info out there?
