  1. You have several options. The Buick 3800 has the Chevy 60 Degree bolt pattern. To use a Ford pattern T5, you'll have to find a 94-95 2.2L S10 bellhousing. (It's the one on the left) There are also some others. Follow these threads: http://60degreev6.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=182&highlight=barry+knight http://l67swap.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=330 Greg
  2. Well... if you like a little adventure... http://www.japaneseauto.com/pages/4/index.htm Greg
  3. I am not reccomending using the AX15. I am talking about the Toyota Supra Turbo R154. It's a similar design but more robust than the AX15. It has much better gear ratio's as well. Greg
  4. Tell you what. If you know anyone in Massachusetts that has a Mopar 2.4L with a flywheel sitting out on the ground, I'll take the Jeep bellhousing and Supra tranny I have and tell you what mods need to be done to make it work. Any takers? Greg
  5. OK, skip down to #11.... http://www.jeeps-offroad.com/showthread.php?t=4740 Greg
  6. The transmission used by Jeep to back up the 2.4L in RWD is the NV1500 and is VERY light duty. It wouldn't last long behind a 2.4L turbo motor. This is the same tranny used by GM in V6 S10's but the GM version has an integral bellhousing. Apparently, the Jeep version has a detachable one. By looking at it, I strongly suspect it has the same bellhousing to case bolt pattern as the stronger NV3550 (from which it is derived) which is identical to the AX15 and.... Toyota Supra Turbo R154. Still, I'll have to hold judgement until I see one close up. http://i19.ebayimg.com/02/i/02/16/cb/cf_1.JPG Greg
  7. Add 16V please..... http://www.merkurtech.com/merkurtech/techarticles/item045.php Greg Junkyard Veteran for TRUTH!
  8. Post some engine close ups! I'd love to see that.... Greg
  9. Well, I'm told that elongating holes in a flywheel is a VERY bad idea. So scratch that part. However, plugging existing holes and redrilling may be a better option. All done by a competent machinist of course. Greg
  10. I'm not knocking CHRFab, but their prices are a little high on some things. But, I guess if you're the only game in town... Anyway, Northstars are good motors but have headgasket and headbolt thread issues. Once that's resolved, they're OK. I think the biggest issue you'll have to get around is the rear mounted water pump and assembly. CHRFab has some pieces to work around that. I'm theorizing that an external waterpump like one out of a water cooled VW Vanagon might be plumbed into place. It also seems to me that if you had a GM S10 2.8L V6 bellhousing, you could have it modified yourself for not much coin. 94-95 2.2L S10 bellhousings have the GM 60 pattern on the block side and the Ford T5 pattern on the tranny side. I should also point out that the 96-02 2.5L Dodge Dakota bellhousing can be used to bolt up the Toyota Supra Turbo R154 5-speed to the Northstar. So, you have a few choices. All have to be modified of course. Recently, I've found that the flywheel from a 3.23.5L Isuzu Trooper has it's bolt holes less than an eighth of an inch off from the Northstar pattern. The flywheel is the same diameter as the Northstar one. Could be that by elongating the holes a bit and having a spacer made to center the flywheel on the Caddy snout, you may save yourself quite a few bucks. Greg
  11. Hello James, It's my understanding that the Turbo 3 Lotus heads have a tendency to crack... and also tend to be very hard to find. The Neon heads can be found in any boneyard pretty cheap. And yes, that last link shows that a Supra Turbo tranny can be hooked up to a 94-95 Dakota bellhousing to put the 2.22.5 into a RWD configuration. Greg
  12. I think that would be the BOMB! http://www-unix.oit.umass.edu/~sdeandre/Web%20Page/hybrid_page.htm http://home.comcast.net/~ozspeed/ http://www.franknbeans.com/hybrid.html http://wrangler-forums.net/showthread.php?t=4740 Greg
  13. Well, since there's no form of purity on this board, you could try the Toyota Supra Turbo R154 5-speed. I've never done it, but, it's possible to do! The Aussies use a custom bellhousing to pull it off, but, here in the States, the 94-00 Dakota 3.9L V6 bell does the same thing. It's uses a hydraulic clutch. I'm talking about the Supra Turbo box only. The non-turbo box is not the same. http://www.classicconversions.co.uk/r154.htm http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/ax15.htm http://www.moparmarket.com/stories/supra.htm http://www.moparmarket.com/tech/archive18.htm http://www.autospeed.com/cms/article.html?...gestions&A=0260 Greg
  14. The 3800 V6 and the 3.4 V6 were both options in the F Body cars. http://www.3800performance.com/vehicles/camaro.htm Greg
  15. Actually, the 3800 Buick V6 was available in late model Camaro's and Firebirds, so, rear wheel drive motor mounts can be had for this engine on this side of the pond. They came with T5 5-speeds too. Greg
  16. Tranny option for this motor is easy. It currently uses a 5-speed called the AR-5 or "MA5". It has the same design as the 88-92 Toyota Supra Turbo R154 tranny. Get the stock GM bellhousing from the 4.2 and bolt it up the Supra Turbo gearbox. Walla! You're on your way! http://media.gm.com/division/gmc/canyon_launch_082103/transmission.html Greg
  17. Hi, The Buick 3800 V6 is a 90 degree engine BUT, it comes with the GM front wheel drive 60 degree bellhousing bolt pattern. This is NOT the typical BOP pattern. So, any bellhousing that will fit a Chevy 2.8 -3.1-3.4 V6 will fit the Buick 3800 V6. Easy to get a bell out of a S10 pickup for a T5 swap. Don't know about the motor mounts though. Greg
  18. Actually, what I meant was a FACTORY bellhousing. However, I'll let it out. The 96-99 2.5L Dodge Dakota 5-speed bellhousing has the same engine side bolt pattern as the FWD GM engines. So with a minor modification, it can be used to mate the 87-92 R154 Supra Turbo 5-speed up to a Northstar. The AX-15 tranny in the Dakota and the Supra Turbo tranny share the same case to bellhousing bolt pattern. Also, the 88-99 2.5L Jeep Wrangler bellhousing can also be modified to fit the Northstar and it will bolt up a Toyota W58 5-speed out of a non Turbo Supra. The W58 and Jeep AX5 tranny share the same case to bellhousing bolt pattern. Hows that for trivia! Greg
  19. Whoops! Let me correct that question. There are THREE different bellhousings that can be modified behind the Northstar. I gave you one... what are the other two? Greg
  20. OK, heres another trivia question. There are two different bellhousings that can be modified to fit two separate 5-speeds behind a Northstar. One is the GM 2.8 bellhousing for a T-5. What's the other one? Greg
  21. The R154 is a tough gearbox but other than replacements for ones that go bad in Supra's, there's not much use for them here. That's really a shame because there are so many ways it could be utilized. The R154's cousin is the AX-15. The AX-15 is used in all Jeep Wrangler's with the 4.0L six cylinder engine from 88 to 98. It is also used in Dodge Dakota pickups from 90 to 98 behind the 3.9L V6. The AX-15 has a 1/4" longer input shaft than the R154 and a different tail housing. Spline count is also different between the two gearboxes. What they DO have in common is the same transmission to bellhousing bolt pattern. So any bellhousing that an AX-15 bolts up to, so will an R154. This has some interesting permutations. Photo from left to right: Bell #1: Stock 7m-GTE 3.0L L6 to R154. Bell #2: Factory AX-15 to Jeep 4.0L six. This bellhousing shares it's engine side bolt pattern with all American Motors 290/304/343/360/401 V8's and can be used to bolt up an R154 to any of them. This particular bell uses an hydrualic throw out bearing. The 94-98 versions used a slave cylinder. Bell #3: Factory AX-15 to Dodge 3.9L V6 in Dodge Dakota pickups. This bellhousing shares it's engine side bolt pattern with ALL Chrysler 273/318/340/360 V8 small blocks. The 3.9L V6 is a 318 V8 with two cylinders lopped off. The R154 can be bolted up to any of them with this bell. Uses a slave cylinder. Item #4: This is an adapter plate available from Novak Enterprises in Utah. This bolts an AX-15 to any GM 4-speed bellhousing. It can also be used to bolt up an R154 to any Chevrolet/Buick/Olds/Pontiac bell or any bell that works with a Muncie 4-speed. Cost is $295. 22. Well, there might be another source for the bell down under. Try Dellow Automotive: http://www.dellowauto.com.au/main.html Click on "Products" and "Contact". They do a LOT of bellhousings for different applications. Greg
  23. There are several bellhousings available from a source in Australia to mate the Q45 V8 up to the Toyota Supra 5-speed. http://www.rodshop.com.au/bellhousings.htm Greg

  25. This is a Toyota R154 with a Novak AX15 adapter plate connected to a BuickOldsPontiac bellhousing. It's tougher than a T5.
