  1. Smaller engine that gets worse MPG and an older EFI setup is somehow better?

I would agree the ignition is better than the Optipuke but no way do I think a virtually unprogrammable EFI setup that is older, is somehow "better." I dont think the horrible aero of the Mustang was completely responsbile for the gas mileage disparity, and the fox body was certainly lighter to boot.

The intake on the 5.0 should also be replaced, where the LT1 intake does not need replacement. Either one could benefit eventually from a larger TB.

I still want the 5.0 but I dont believe at all that the EFI is "better." If you are allergic to computers then you can get a timing adjuster and larger injectors along with a "re-tuned" MAF for the 5.0, in which case for someone non-techy then yes its "better" because there are bandaids for you if you scream when you look at timing and fuel tables.

  2. once you hit 4000 rpm and the second turbo was up to full speed the car would launch violently into the horizon

Somehow I dont think you've ever driven anything fast, my car was lighter and made around 470 HP at the crank. It pulled quite nicely on the freeway, launching into the horizon? I wonder what kind of drugs one would have to be on to make such a claim, I think its the drug called "driving 17 second cars my whole life"

  3. yes im in CA if the car would be illegal what would it take to keep it legal?

To stay legal you need to carry over any and all smog equipment, and the catalytic converter(s) must be in the same general location as do the O2 sensors. This also means carrying over the carbon canister for the fuel.

You also must re-register the vehicle with DMV, it is not legal to drive a V8 (example) if it is listed as a V6 with your insurance company.

  4. EDIT: the new style opti will help prevent accumulated moisture like condensation but will do nothing to prevent the "hit a puddle and it stops running" type of problem.

It is almost PERFECTLY sealed, the early design has a huge gaping hole in the back where the splined shaft goes, the 95 is nearly immune to damage from moisture. I had oil and coolant in my 94 Optipuke.

  5. 150 is a bit ridiculous, I've done 150 in my Z28 but it has a good deal of suspension work, I wouldn't feel safe in a stock car doing that. Anything goes wrong on a public road and good chance you may not walk away from it, if you do maybe not in one big blob like you are now. Track is significantly safer, 36 foot wide of clean sticky track in broad daylight, hopefully paramedics on hand just incase. I have heard of incidents needing people to be airlifted out, it happens.

  6. Did you check it to make sure it is a turbo shaft? Seems like that is your issue right?

This was a turbo engine, so yep - I see the point about the shaft now because the 280Z distributor shaft is much longer than the ZXT.

Does the ZX distributor plug right in? I am having a beach of a time finding one without spending $75 though.
