  1. I weld for a large construction outfit...I wouldnt do it hust because the guy sounds like he dosent know what he`s talking about 6011,6013, even 6010 will not hold at 60,000 if heated also who would even mention that it will hold 60,000 You would tear your car to nothing before you produced enough torque to break 60k anyways he probably thought it was a selling point to mention it...If he said he tig`d each tooth then heat coated it with a layer of mig then i would be more interested. Also you can find a core r200 for 25$ dollars at a junkyard and have a welder finish the jon exactly how you want it for 50$, and guess what it could hold 70,000 psi [7011] Chad
  2. I am not knowledgeable about suspension of the z car I have a 72 240z that soon will have a single turbo`d 351 windsor. I want to get coil overs but do they have springs stiff enough to really support the wieght of a v8 z car? I mean i want it stiff, the best handling that i can get what spring rate or even coil over kit would you guys suggest? Just for the front though because im fabbing in a 9 inch.also is the steering rack strong enoug? basiccally im looking for a full road race syle feel and need to know what stiffness and also coil over kit would be best. Chad
  3. I met a guy named troy at my friends shop while fabbing the kit into the z car, he is a genious carb guy who went heads up in an engine building contest with a huge aftermarket fuel injection company who`s name i cant mention due to legal reasons but he spent 20 hours modding a carb of his choice holley 700 model 4150 [double pumper] anyways to make a long story short they threw the engine in this nova with this 10,000 dollar aftermarket FI system and ran an 11.5 quertermile time after time. They threw the same engine in the car with gis holley and they shaved a half second off!!!! 11.0 This guy just moved from down south becuase of family reasons, So he dosent have many clients up here in Nor-Cal. One of the reasons he can make insane power is he uses webber powerplates that only he can get. No one else in the world can get them. Anyways he also makes these carbs reliable 200,000 without a sweat, On street 5.0 or 350`s anyways he made dale earnhardts carb in his last champion season and a bunch more famous nascar name. But since he needs new guys to start up again he is offering better prices. Let me put it this way the 600 dollars you could spend on a holley hp the same carb from him would shave a tenth to 5 tenths of a second of your 1/4 mile time. Here are some links about him. http://www.carcraft.com/howto/77958/ http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/503460 http://www.popularhotrodding.com/enginemasters/articles/chevrolet/smallblock/0206PhrEmtech/ just a few to look at. Email me or respond if any are interested. Chad

  5. Sorry guys ive been working hard on the kit, The more i have been though the better my hopes are for it. I am really starting to realize the advantages we have on the checvy guys. This hot rod specialist who is helping me is a wealth of knowledge and not just knowledge from his head, but good old expiriance in the field. He brought over a buddy who races in the gt-1 class and his crew cheif who use to race at the 24 hr le mans. I used to be sold on the whole irs deal until I met this guy. Think of this the c-5 vette is probably the best irs in terms of strength wieght and availibility. Well it suprised me to know that in speed gt challenge and trans am racing they remove the irs in the vette why, weight savings strength and putting power to the wheels. He told me a stroy about a race team who ran vettes with irs and the most tricked out ls1 [dohc] you could imagine. But they never could beat the steeda stangs who used a 2001 body with a gt rear end [solid axle] and a 5.8 liter pushrod engine. So they went to chevys engineers and asked them why they couldnt get a leg up on these ford guys and they said " IRS is a street feature, while it is easier to setup an irs system to handle well, if you do the right setup for a solid rear nothing can beat it." They admitted that the only reason IRS was made was for low HP cars where it didnt matter about putting the power to the wheels. Think about it irs only came into light after the whole front wheel drive craze. Low eco cars that had a smoother ride. So to make a long story short the vette team dropped in currie 9 inch rears and went to tricked out carbed engines and they beat there own times on the track by an average of 6 second`s a race with a average speed of 86 mph. That is almost 3/4 miles advantage. IRS was made for a smooth ride. The pros know to swap out there irs. So my original plan was to fab in a kit so any of us could drop in a cobra rear irs system to solve these r-180,r-200 problems and stop this r-230 price craze. But Now that ive talked to the experts, Im fabbing a kit where you z guys are going to be able to drop a 9 inch rear in the car with as little hassle as possible. Dont know prices yet but will keep you informed. Think about it thought a corvette irs system runs 2 grand without all the time and effort to convert it to the z. A cobra`s even more. A bullet proof 9 inch can be purchased at a junkyard for 150$ or complete from currie for about 400-750$. But they are bullet proof handle up to 2000 hp in some cases. Are system is going to be most likely a 4 link type suspension with some mod`s. But back to the motor swap Ford engines are lighter and older engine componets are stronger then chevys [351w rods crank pistons are rated to about 450 rwhp] The only thing chevy ever had on ford were there heads but know thanks to abundance of aftermarket parts they are tied on the heads. So when a chevy guy says its cheaper to build a chevy hi-po engine that is not true anymore. My car the piolit car that we are mocking everything upto is going to have a 351w with twisted wedge heads and a t-66 turbo with a super t-10 and a currie rear end and we will see if any of the chevy guys can beat me on the track with there stroked out irs cars . Anyways guys thought i`d update you and tell you that our ford engines are going to be pressed up against our firewalls safely and lowered a hair for pure weight ratio balance. The guys at jtr did great but just as they took the scarab and made it better we are finding the advantages of ford engines and making the jtr kit better. Dont qoute me on this but since we can scoot our engines back farther I believe it will have room for a turbo or super charger up front. Also we are trying to build a mor solid mount one that doesn`t bolt into the old crossmember section but one that fits directly to the frame for better [stronger applications] The le mans guy is a chevy die hard but he agrees with me in saying that the ford small block will give alot more advantage to its user than the chevy. Chad
  6. Talked to him tonight i move my z in on monday and hes going to work on it then when all bugs are worked out[a week] This is what he does day and night he lives in his shop. Then he will crank out a few kits for you guys. He wants to make 2 kits 351/302 both will fit under hood he seems to think we will get better positioning of the motor due to distributor location and a weld on drop plate he was thinking of. Its coming finnally and pretty fast Chad
  7. How many of you ford guys want an installation kit like the jtr one for the sbf, I know i do well...we may be in luck I know a guy who is reknown around my area for being a ford genius custom fabricator/Engine/ suspension /chassis specialist. He takes no new clients since people send him cars from around the world. He just a 427 side oiler in a torino that had 2 1300 dominators with webber style tubes to feed each individual cylinder, he got 699 rwhp and its more dependable in theory than a standard carb. He is a genius, I had the privlege of meeting him because my dad has a original ac 66 cobra that needed fixing, so thats the only reason he took the job. While i was in his shop I couldnt help but to ask him If he could fab a kit for my z car, So he is bringing it in next week to completely fab a kit simialar to jtr`s but he also said he can do it any way i want direct frame, crossmember any way. He called me last night and told me he was excited to do this, so then he said he was going to make me a 5 link suspension for a 9 inch rear...I was so happy I didnt know what to do. He is busy for the next 2 years so he`s taking his vacation to do this, He loves a challenge. I told him im not doind the kit thing for me but for all us ford z guys. I also said that the chevy guys think they are so cool and often friendly teasing and superior jokes come our wa...His response "We`ll fix there wagon" Since im doing this for all us ford guys, He asked me to ask you If your at all interested In a complete swap kit with manual to tell me so we could get a rough total Mesiroff@sbcglobal.net is my address Email me or reply to this if you are interested. Im paying him for his initial time materials so im taking the bulk of the hit so guys if you want these let me know i really am doing this for all of us since we are less in numbers we have to stick together. Think a swap kit and manual for us. Im so excited He also has many great ideas for chassis reinforcment. He has degree in engineering so it will be all mathmatically genius. He laughed when i told him the chevy guys always tell us dollar for dollar we can do a comprable swap. He said his goal is to make that possible. Also one more thing he is making a custom efi intake that is amazing i saw it on a car that had a 5.0 with trickflow everything all he did was change to his manifold and he gained 24.5 hp to the WHEELS on his chassis dyno He is pure genius. Guys please let me know if you are interested. If he doesnt get enough guys he wont do the project. and it will be back to us. Chad
  8. Does any company sell a lt1 intake with a bonnet to hook up the turbo charger to? If not whats the best spot to hook the charger up to on the lt1? Chad
  9. I want a turbo that spins up on a v8 at around 3500 rpm and can spin until 6500 rpm, what car at the junk yard could i pull this from? what has a big turbo stock? Please turbo guys help me out Chad
  10. what is the hp rating on the 5.0 block? Where is the best place to pick a 5.0 block at? What are the best heads for the buck? What is the best aftermarket intake? Edelbrock, Holley? Basically i have lots of chevy experience and barely ford, where is the best place to shop for ford parts? Where is the best ford "tech" web page? Chad
  11. Heavy i must say...you do know your shit, But we have the same mindsets you want a 377 because of the revs [3.48] I want hi revs 5.0 [3.0] we have the reving syndrome. Chad
  12. All you guys please shoot your opinions my way. Im thinking of using a 5.0 liter ford instead of a lt1 because 1.Its more original 2.They rev better 3.Better efi [or so i was told] 4.I plan turboing it and there are barely any apps for lt1 5.Lighter 6.cheaper This is just an idea im kicking around give me your opinions lt1 vs 5 liter Chad
  13. All you guys please shoot your opinions my way. Im thinking of using a 5.0 liter ford instead of a lt1 because 1.Its more original 2.They rev like bastards 3.Better efi 4.I plan turboing it and there are barely any apps for lt1 5.Lighter 6.cheaper This is just an idea im kicking asround give me your opinions lt1 vs 5 liter Chad
  14. I he a 95 lt1 motor what is obd1? why is it better than 2?
  15. I want to turbo my lt1, where does the turbo enter the intake manifold on my lt1? what turbo is the best for top end ? say 3500-4000 rpm and up? Is a turbo very hard to install on an lt1 z? Does someone make a decent booking on turbo charging sbc`s or lt1 specifically. Chad
  16. I am building my completly custom v8z with a lt1 with turbo or blower, The thing is i hate unibody so i think im going to follow the steps of http://www.fastassdatsun.com Except i wanted to get your guy`s input on instead of 2 main frame rails like they are doing, a full tube chassis, similar to a grand american modified or nascar. I could cut the shell then build the tube chassis and weld the body to it. Then i could run a straight axle with 4 link suspension and it be bullet proof. what do you all think? Chad
  17. I decided to go turbo, miester what turbo is the best for top end ? say 3500-4000 rpm and up? Is a turbo very hard to install on an lt1z? Also what is the price range for a turbo setup if all exhuast is done by me? Chad
  18. Thats a great idea i have actually thought of for a while, a vortec 4.3l puts out alot of power and you can put a 3.8l bonniville supercharger on it with a little modification, my mom has a 3.8l ssei bonniville and its a boat but it hauls, i mean kicks you back in the seat halls, they claimed 240hp but with a little head work and supercharger work those engines get to 320 hp no prob. I have heard of a 4.3l with the 3.8l blower and they said the chevy s-10 had 333 hp to the ground. the best part about that blower is its incredible cheap, and readily avalible. I think the 4.3l vortec has 260 hp stock. just my thoughs Chad
  19. the deepest dished pistons are -28cc and thats like 9.3 to 1 wich in my opinion is to high for 8 psi
  20. Also an advantage is so far the only heads i could find are 58cc and i eventually want to run a blower on this engine, so i was hoping to use a 72cc or 76 head
  21. So i got a great price on a 95 camaro lt1 engine, but have a old 350 4 bolt block thats in great shape, idont know how many bolt the lt1 is. Ive noticed online that lt1 heads are very limited and not very impressive compared to say a afr head for the same price but in "old head" size.My question is should i take all the componets from the lt1 and convert the old 4 bolt 350 so i can use old style heads. it seems to me i would save alot of money on the heads and i would have my block that i know is in great shape in there. Chad
  22. I have decided to go lt1 in my z, since i plan on making this car as custom as i can by building a complete tube chasis and setting the body on it, i figured i might as well be very original and think of more original ideas. I thought of a dry sump. It supposedly has less leeching of power and better lubrication, my question is how difficult is a dry sump to make on the lt1 and once in place how reliable [how many miles i can get on it] Also how much $ are we talking to make it so? Chad
  23. What on an lt1 is the best way to get close to 400 hp? is it a pushrod engine? i know nothing about them so thats why im asking. Can i buy aftermarket heads for them instead of stock? what intake work can be done? Chad
  24. i found an engine lt1 out of a 95 camaro, the guy wants 400 bucks, does this engine have alum heads? also how do they flow does anyone have specs on them? do they port well? How much hp can you get out of an n/a lt1? Chad
  25. I am going to use a 350 as my engine in my 72 240z. the problem is choosing my fuel delivery system. I am going to [vortech or procharge] suprcharge it. I want to know the advantages/disadvantages of tpi,tbi,lt1,ls1 ? Rightnow i have 2 4 bolt blocks from the 70`s so i was curious wich would fit on my engines and if not what i had to do to them so they would fit. Basically i dont know anything about fuel injection but want to go that route, opinions please Chad
