  1. So that project which just a fee moments ago seemed impossible to me nite had the possibility of success! I pulled my blower housing to install my upgraded fan and I noticed the the spirit seemed like it would just slide right off to the side and was being held down by one screw! So I undid it and sure enough it came the evaporator core with its whole housing! However I did accidentally break the cable that actuates the door to bring in fresh air. I think I can fab something up to make it work. I'm going to take the core to an AC do and see if they can tell me if it's any good and make some hoses for me!
  2. After looking at it closer, I am thinking that I might not do it. The connectors for the evaporator core are way up in the dash that's hard to reach, and I really don't want to pull the dash Since the wiring is a mess... Anyone have any idea where one of those under dash units would fit nicely?
  3. I'll give it a try and see if I can install it without pulling the dash. I guess I could pull the dash dice I am doing a bunch of work on it right now. I have been looking for a good excuse to dynamat the fire wall!
  4. Thank you for your help, so from yoir previous post would I be safe to assume that the size of lijes and fittings that I will.need will all be size 6 or 8?
  5. Sorry to bug you guys again, but if I were to buy one of those all in one AC kits on eBay would it have the fittings I would need to connect to the Z's evaporator? Specifically, I am looking at the kits which include a compressor, condensor, drier, under dash evaporator ect...
  6. Since you have done this, could you possibly point me in the direcrion I could find some fittings that would connect to the evaporator? All of my hoses and stuff are gone and thats my biggest trip up. I dont wanna order some stuff and not be able to connect it up to my old evaporator...
  7. I do have one more question. What sort of connectors would I need to connect to the evaporator and the expansion valve? Are they a standardized thread so that I could just go down to the auto parts site and pull one off of the shelf? Of course nothing is ever that simple, but I have to ask...
  8. Hi all, I'm my Z I discovered that the original evaporator was left in the system when the previous owner was stripping weight. Apparently it qas too hard to get at for him. I am working on getting my HVAC working and I was wondering if the old evaporator would be able to survive tge pressures of R134a of everythin else in the system was new. From what I understand I should need the following parts Condenser r134a expansion valve r134a pressure switch Dryer/Receiver PAG oil Compressor Hoses/fittings. How likely would I be to get a system that works a bit? It would be nive in the centeral Texas heat... I would go with the Vintage Air system, but I hate their controll panels..
  9. That's awesome. I'm definitely ordering one! Can you pull the blower box out without taking out the whole dash? Also is it true you can feel air coming out when the fan is on low speed?!
  10. Hour big of an improvement its third blower exactly? Specifically I am wondering if you can feel the air cone out of the side vents. On my Z hardly any comes out and I have checked ask the houses and everything... I would like to actually feel these vents work!
  11. Thanks Lance. Parts I ordered the sensor and the associated connwctors. I have a feeling I will need some sord of adaptor for this. Anyone know what the thread pitch is?
  12. So today I started wireing up my new Tarus fan and a controll system from parts I have laying around. I was able to make up a switching system from SPDT relays in parallel (vecause there is allot of current) and one SPST. I have tested everything out by hand manually grounding the relays to turn on the fan and everything works great! The only problem I have is I dont know which temp sensor to get. I know I will need something that has two outputs for two speeds and something that has the right temp range for my SBC 350. Anyone have any idea where I could pick one up that will have the right range and work with a two speed fan?
  13. I'm looking for a window for the drivers side door that will fit a 1977 280z. I just bought a complete door today at a sale with a bunch of Zs, but the one that I grabbed was from a 76 and did not fit my 77 I am also looking for the top corner on the passenger side of the windshield chrome trim... If anyone has the left and right sloped small pieces to the rear hatch and the standoffs that hold them up I will need those too. If anyone has anything please PM me. I am located in Austin Tx
  14. Thanks, I am not very good at coming up with ideas like that... I should be able to whip something up that will work now that I have an idea of what I am doing!
  15. Also, if anyone has any suggestions as to a cable shifter that would be great too...
  16. Hi everyone, I was here a few weeks ago when my starter died on my 78 Z I finally got it replaced a few weeks ago with a nice Power Master and now my car is back up and running! Now onto my next quandary... Last week I went junk yard searching to find a Z to scrounge some parts off of and I found a 77 2+2 with lots of good stuff (good thing too because the car was being crushed the next day!) I was able to get a usable center console complete with a stereo, switches and everything. I also grabbed all the gauges, the turn signal switch, and the blower fan. My car has a TH-350 installed in it and a B&M Pro-stick sifter bolted to a plate that covers the stock sifter hole. and I decided that I would like to install the junkyard console since I don't have one... I figured that the shifter would probably fit in since I have seen a few other people who had mated this exact shifter with the stock center console. So I started by loosening the plate that was screwed over the hole so that I could move the shifter around and make adjustments as needed... Well when I put the console in the shifter was both to tall and to long to fit in the hole. SO my question is how did everyone else make this shifter fit in the center console or did they use a smaller version that is produced? I attached a picture of the center console of one of the 280's that I have seen with a quarter stick installed
  17. The starter is not spinning at all. I am fairly handy with a multimeter and a soldering iron, but as I said before I know almost nothing about starters or where I would even begin to test it.
  18. Im guessing the starter died on me but the selenoid is still good? I don't know if they can fail like that as I have never had to fuss with a starter much.
  19. The dust cover is off of the flywheel so I can get to everything relatavely easy. The flywheel can be turned with some effort by my thin arms. I had someone crank the engine whilst I was under the car watching the starter and the bendix is engageing. The problem seems to be that its just hitting the flywheel and not meshing with it. In otherwards its like the teeth on the bendix are not lineing up with the teeth on the flywheel. The teeth on the flywheel look fine and they look fine on the starter too.
  20. Hey everyone, im new here so please excuse me if this is in the wrong forum... I recently purchased my first Z after lusting over them for years! So the problem started shortly after I bought the car. When I was buying the car I noticed tgat the engine rurned over rather slowly when starting but I chocked it up to yhe engine just having very high compression. But ever since I have gotten home the starter ger engages but it never meshes with the flywheel. It just hits the flywheel banging on it? I have cleaned all the grounds installed a new battery and checked all the connections and everything looks super. So does anyone know what this could be? I just got my dream car and I havent even been able to drive it yet!
