  1. I have a 77 280z, I have no wiper arms for it. I'm getting closer to the finish of my build and could use some if anyone has a pair available. Thanks!
  2. From the album: 280z project

finished mocking up the exhhaust, turned out pretty nice!
  3. From the album: 280z project

240sx rear brakes, Cosmo Coil overs in the rear.
  4. I made a rookie mistake guys, totally spaced on plumbing the IAC over to the pre turbo intake piping, so the MAR was reading all the IAC inlet air. Thanks for all the suggestions though! While I wait for the plumbing things i need to do that, I got my exhaust all fabbed up, turned out rather nice. Thanks again for the help folks!
  5. Well, when I got home i played around with the timing, and over the complete range of adjustment the engine is still running like junk, same simptoms, and very hard starting. It also wont hold an idle now. This is leading me down the path that i have a failed sensor of sorts. Has anyone had a MAF go bad and produce similar symptoms?
  6. That was my first thought, but everything is keyed nicely, and doesn't seem to be capable of connecting to an incorrect location. I've been doing some research on timing the engine, and apparently the CAS is not set and forget. Seeing as this engine was a fresh rebuild when I purchased it, perhaps checking base timing is the logical next step. The process seems intricate, what with the screw on the ecu you have to run out to put it in the correct mode to check timing, then rubbing your tummy while tapping your head..... Thanks for your input Chris!
  7. Hi all, I've been slowly chipping away at my RB-Z build for the last 6-7 months. Ive basically gone from just a motor swap to re doing every system on the car.... Anyway, finally got the motor to the point where i could start it. And it runs like garbage. It seems to have the symptoms of highly retarded timing, as, it runs remarkably rich, back fires when throttle is applied, gets super high exhaust temps after barely any time running, etc. It also seems to give no timing advance off idle, as it will bog and basically stall if throttle is applied. I've got a brand new wiring specialties harness on it, which went together nicely, and I have no worries that the wiring is all put together correctly. Every sensor is checked and plugged in fully, and all the basics checked. (grounds and what not) Has anyone else run into such a snag? The one factor remaining is, my o2 sensor isn't installed yet, seems strange to me that it wouldn't at least run correctly in an open loop scenario, not requiring an o2 till its warmed up. Any insights would be appreciated, Thanks folks!
  8. This is a really handy tool, thank you. Unfortunately there isn't anything that matches the dimensions I'm talking about. I'm just going to stop wasting my time and I ordered the s13 caliper brackets from MM. done spinning my wheels with this project haha.
  9. thanks Miles, I have pics, but IM currently posting from my phone and cant post them from the mobil site. They are aluminum z32 calipers, just like the ones in your link. They are supposidly Z quip mounts, which Ive had little luck finding info on. Ill post pictures in a little bit. The guy i got them from uses something similar, but has custom Coleman rotors... Im just hoping i dont need to go that route for financial purposes.
  10. Hey folks, I recently started putting together a z32 rear brake kit for my S30. A friend had the brackets sitting in his shed, and I traded off my 280zx headache of a rear kit to get the calipers. With early, deep offset (2 1/4") rotors, the fit centered in the caliper almost perfectly, nothing a little shimming of the caliper cant fix, however, the overall diameter of the rotor is to small, and needs to be 12" od. To use the entire pad. So, is there a factory rotor that matches the specs of a early 280zx rotor in all way but is larger in diameter? 300zx rotors dont have the deep offset, nor do later 280zx ones as ive seen from other peoples measurements... Thanks in advance for the help
  11. Well, I saw that at the parts yard today. This leaves me with the idea that this is an incorrectly built bracket, that was indeed intended to use early 280zx calipers and rotors. And it was discovered that they didn't fit, and just sold off..... as annoying as that notion may be, I've decided that I'm done wasting my time on this, and saw some z32 calipers at the yard. I got them, and now I'm going to just build my own bracket like I should have done in the first place. Thanks everyone for trying to assist me!
  12. hmmm, there's a 280zx specialist down here who told me that the early and late 280zx rear brakes are interchangeable, as long as you do everything. Calipers, rotors and pads that is. Seeing as my brackets are threaded, and maxima calipers are threaded for mounting, and all my stuff seems to line up except the rotors hitting the bracket, I'm inclined to believe they will work based on his expertise. I may be putting my foot in my mouth, but i found a yard with some later calipers and I'll find out tomorrow if they'll work. Out of curiosity, are the z32 rear calipers supposed to work with the same mount and caliper as the maxima setup? Thanks for all the help folks, I know this is a seemingly hopeless endeavor.
  13. Tried 240sx already, bolt patters is wider. Thanks for the suggestion though! and yes, Im talking about rears.
  14. Im on the hunt for some late 280zx calipers, trying to make a crazy brake kit come together. I really need mockup pieces so if they arent usible thats fine, ill mock up with them then use them as cores when i get new ones. Thanks folks!!
  15. SleeperZ Are the brackets threaded? Because all the maxima calipers Ive seen are threaded requiring the bracket to be an open bore. That to me means they arent what works on mine, since mine ARE threaded. I got a late caliper today, but it didnt have the slider bracket, which was aggrivating because thats how it bolts on... I seem to be on The right path with that though. Does anyone have any late (81-82) 280zx calipers? Also, anyone want to buy a complete set of brand new rear brakes for an early one? Ive attached a picture, its all brand new and ready to go, Haha! )
  16. Well, I had a really long flight to poke around the interweb and look into this more. Its seems the offset of the later 280zx caliper (although I couldn't find an exact measurement) combined with the later rotor would solve this issue. So, i have one caliper and one rotor on the way. stay tuned.
  17. Miles, Yes, the difference between the two generation rear brakes is what led me down the rotor rabbit whole. I assumed i had the right calipers, as they came with it, but that now looks to be untrue. I now have first generation (79-81) calipers, rotors, and pads. This is yeilding the current interference problem, between the rotor and caliper bracket. Based on what I saw from the first set of rotors, i may need second gen (82-end) 280zx calipers and rotors to make it work. Its obvious I dont have a bracket intended for the maxima trick, as the maxima calipers are threaded, and the bolt is retained by threading into the mount on the kit I have. lts not a 240sx kit ether, as (a quick call to autozone to thank for this info) those calipers are 4 1/4" hole to hole And my brackets are 3 5/8" hole to hole.... So it looks like back to second gen rotors :-/ and finding second gen calipers. It would be nice if anone has them sitting around that I could get the bolt hole width measurement from. Thanks all for helping with my headache!
  18. So, I tried contacting the manufacturer of the kit, only to get a scolding for buying something used and no real support on figuring out what I needed to make it work. Offered to make me a very good deal, and sell me a new kit for retail After playing around, noticed it needed the other generation 280zx rotors, got my old ones sent back to the manufacturer, and got the other generation rotors, and they don't fit ether. Offset and bolt pattern is wrong for maxima caliper, so thats not the answer ether...... I'm truly lost. It appears they could work, but the inside of the rotor hat hits the corners of the bracket. fabricator in me wants to just grind the bracket, engineer in me want so know why this is happening when i apparently have all the right parts now that the kit was designed around.
  19. I tried that, it resulted in the last of the four pictures. rotor wouldn't even go on. Thanks for the pictures, my brackets seem to have a different offset and bolt pattern from what I've been seeing with the maxima caliper trick. I think the bracket may be corect for these calipers, but perhaps needs a different rotor to make it work..... just a matter of WHICH rotor. The bracket does look similar, but seems to have FAR less offset. That's what leads me to believe I have the correct bracket for the calipers, but perhaps the wrong rotors.
  20. Hi folks, I bought this kit off of a member on here a month or so back, and finaly got to the point on my build to start putting it together. I got the caliper brackets and calipers from said member, 280zx calipers to be exact, with the intention of mounting them to my rear uprights using the included brackets. As you can see in the pictures, while using a 280zx caliper, and the included bracket, the caliper is far to close to the rotor, in fact, its an interference of about 1/8 of an inch. Beyond that, the casting for the caliper, where the brake line attaches, interferes with the bracket...... safe to say this bracket is not intended for this caliper at all. Has anyone seen this setup before and can you please lend me some opinion on the situation. does the fabled maxima caliper have a very similar bolt spacing to this? Am I actually in possession of the maxima-to-300zx rear brake bracket ? I also tried mounting the bracket the other way, to see if i had it backwards, then the rotor wouldn't fit.... also pictured.

Standard toyota 4 puck brake upgrade, from silvermine. Cosmo Racing coil over it with stupid spring rates I'm sure to change once I drive it haha. and a bunch of fresh paint.
  23. I just got one from your link. The pics of it mounted are going on my profile gallery tonight, take a look.
  24. I have a 77 280z, and i only have the right rear inner fender filler plate. Id really like to get hooked up with someone who has them.
