  1. Yea, I got to pick it up a little sooner than I first thought. Getting the car for 1/3 the asking price helped with that.
  2. Does anyone sell just the front 2 pieces of carpet for the driver's and passenger's floorboards? How much would an entire set of carpet for the whole car be? Thanks guys. -Grant
  3. Oh, she and I will. She runs! It cranked up the first time I tried it. The fuel pumps aren't working though, and I'm going to replace the mechanical one first thing in the morning. I have an original factory service manual that shows how to test the electric one and even how to disassemble it. I'm going to trouble shoot all of that in the morning and see how it goes. I poured a little bit of fuel into the carbs, and it fired right up for a few seconds. I took the plugs out and poured a little bit of oil in the cylinders beforehand. I then turned it over about 10 revolutions by hand before I cranked it. Tomorrow I'm going to change the oil and see if I can get it to run for a little while. Here are pictures from today. Oh, and if you have aluminum wheels that look as bad as mine did, I suggest using Eagle One etching mag cleaner. Before: After:
  4. Yep, it's a 4 speed. I'm not sure I'm going to mod this engine before I swap my LT1 into it. I guess we'll see how she runs first though. Thanks for the compliments guys!
  5. I do believe that's where the a/c compressor was leaking at one time, and slung oil onto the underside of the hood. I thought it was a fire at first too. Haha, and while we're on the subject of fuel pumps.......I've been told it has a mechanical pump, and an electric by the tank. Could the electric one be replaced by a universal electric pump? If so, what size are the lines there, and are they rubber?
  6. So the electric one is by the tank? In other words, a universal electric pump could be used? What size are the lines there, and are they rubber?
  7. Alright guys, this one shouldn't be a hard one to answer. I would find out myself, but my car is 80 miles away right now. Haha, does a 260Z have a mechanical fuel pump, or electric? I would have thought it had a mechanical pump, but someone here locally told me it is an electric one. If someone has or could find me a part number, that would be awesome. Also, would a 260Z have a drain on the gas tank, or would I have to take the tank off and dump it out? Any other tips on getting an engine ready to start that's been sitting for 2-3 years? -Grant
  8. Well I brought it back to my house the morning. Well actually, my parent's house in Winfield. I had to be back in Tuscaloosa (about 80 miles away) at 4 today, so i didn't have a lot of time to work on it. I got the outside cleaned up fairly well, and the carpet cleaned up as well. I didn't get to the seats or dash, but I think they will clean up pretty well too. Here are the pics. I won't get to work on it again until Friday, and I hope to get it running then or on Saturday.
  9. Lookin good man! I can almost smell the hot tar just by looking at those pics.
  10. Well, I had another thread with some pictures in it, but it was more of a "I think I might buy this car, help me out," thread. I'm going to keep a log of my progress on it in this thread. Here's what she looks like now. I'm fairly sure this is the original paint, but I'm going to verify that with the owner today. If you didn't see my other thread, I bought this car from the original owner with just 62,000 miles. There are a few dents here and there, and the right rear quarter got bumped into, but the body is in excellent shape overall. It hardly has enough rust on the bottom of the rockers and quarters to make the paint bubble up. The floorboards are very solid in this car. Today, I'm going to clean it up and see what kind of shape the paint's really in. I also had a few questions. The car hasn't ran in about 3 years, and I'm going to try and get it running again. What do you suggest I do? I was going to drain the gas and put a new battery on it at the least. Do these cars have a drain on the gas tank? An oil change will also be in order. Also, I may have to rebuild the carbs. I'm going to inspect the brakes and probably at least flush the old fluid out and put new in. Do you think I should go with new pads and shoes as well? I know I will later, but would the pads/shoes be a safety concern considering it's been sitting a few years? Thanks guys -Grant
  11. Nice. Here's a thread with pics of the Z I just picked up. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=140983
  12. Nice decision! I just bought a 260Z today, and I can't wait to get started on it as well.
  13. That's about as bad as the rust gets. I love Alabama. Let me know what you think! -Grant
  14. There's the damage I was talking about. Nothing major though. He still has the original wheels and tires that he's giving me as well.
  15. Well guys, it's mine. I went back and looked the car over with a fine tooth comb today, and found a couple of problems. The bottom of the quarters have a little rust on them, but nothing major at all. It's just bad enough for the paint to bubble up. The floor boards are solid, but have a little bit of rust starting on them. The battery tray and frame rails are fine. I let the owner know about that, and he asked if I would give him $500 for it. "Umm........yea, I think I can do that," was my response. I'm going to pick it up in the morning. I'm uploading some pics of it now.
  16. That is a very nice installation! I would kill to have that as a DD. Congrats!
  17. I will definitely get some pics and post em up for you guys. Where are popular rust spots for these? I'm going to check the floorboards, trunk pan, and dog legs. Anything else to look for?
  18. Thanks for the help guys. Looks like I'll have a little over a foot in front and behind the car. My truck is 193 inches long, and 74 inches wide. Haha, it wil baaaarely fit in there. I was just worried about the car being that long or longer, I guess it's just the long front end that threw me off.
  19. Long story short, I'm about to be buying a 260z, and I want to make sure it will fit in my tiny garage. I need a tip to tail measurement. Can anyone help me out? Thanks! -Grant
  20. Man, I've really enjoyed looking through this thread. Don't sell it man! Haha, you're well on your way to making this an awesome car. Must........not.........stop!
  21. I like threads where people post multiple pictures of assorted cars. This thread makes you my friend. Looks like a nice project man. I'm hoping to pick up a 260z here in a couple weeks.
