  1. i looked up fibreglast and they definitely know what they are doing. i heard aircraftspruce does good work too has anyone ordered through them?
  2. thanks guys i appreciate it. this seems like its going to be fun and the stock dash weighs a TON. i had no idea that there was an entire steel sheetmetal structure under the factory dash, probably for deflecting bullets or something:mrgreen:. i would buy a pre made dash, but: 1) i have the skill and knowledge to make my own 2) $$$ 3) i can tweak the one that i make to my liking 4) $$$ 5) $$$ by the way happy easter, but more importantly happy MotoGP season, which started today.
  3. i am about to try and make a fiberglass dash for my Z. i was thinking of spraying something on the old one and using it as a form, or maybe designing a new one. my first question would be what could i spray on my current dash to make it into a male style mold? second would be the easiest way to mount the dash, i want to make it a total of 6 bolts to keep the whole thing in place. if anybody has any advice or prior experience, i would appreciate some help
  4. that happened to my car at the higher revs some times, a new fuel filter and a half tank of 109 cleared it right up! but definitely stop by the shop and pick up a fuel filter. also, if you get your z to run, take you air cleaner off so you can see down your carbs to your sliders. bring the revs up to about 2500 just from the linkage thats right there and push your hand on to the intake of your carb creating a seal. hold your had there for a sec and let it build vacuum then remove your hand then do it both carbs one at a time. if there is anything loosely clogging your jets it will be sucked out. its a shady tree move but it works.
  5. but its cheaper. plus i have a couple guys helping me, both of which teach auto mechanics at the local JC and one of them built sprint cars for a extra long time so its not like ill be some jackass randomly welding pipes together. il be some jackass being taught how to meticulously fab and install a cage in his own car. its a win win in my eyes. and its not like im getting ready for a series to start and i have a deadline or anything. im just building myself a car.
  6. is the kit for a basic 10 pt less expensive than the equivalent lengths of pipe? im going with the cheaper option. dont get me wrong, im not going to buy pipes unless i know they are good for a roll cage. thats why i was wondering if i could get it at home depot, i need to know what pipe i can use and what pipe i cant use so i dont end up with 220 lbs of useless weight on my car.
  7. dang. do you know what the difference is between the types of pipe? or just HD doesnt have the right size?
  8. when you think about it, thats pretty much like giving a friend a ride, or a large spouse. i wouldnt be too concerned about it either. the rigidity is going to make a difference when you are shifting weight for corner entry or perhaps a drift if thats what youre in to. after im done installing all the parts i have on order i think the next thing would be a cage. but i wonder, does anyone have a set of plans? like blueprints or something that i could base mine off of? i saw that jegs sells pre bent kits but thats like $250+ id rather go to home depot and get some pipe. i have access to a bender and i know a little how to use it so i then all i have to does is weld them shits into place and ill be set. so if anyone is scrambling for their file cabinet or garage door looking for their old plans right now i have a 73 s30. thanks a bunch
  9. favorite things ever thus the motor swap the dude i bought it from put supra seats in it... an overall bad decision. so its my project for now. its already a ton faster just from tuning and with a decent interior this car would be extra bad. thats a friend's 325ix. a very nice car.
