maybe there is a carbon build up on the valve seats? the spark plug from the cylinder at the front of the engine, #6? looks like it's not firing properly.

i realize that, and that is not what's leaking, the sound seems to be coming from the front of the engine around the exhaust and intake manifolds, if it was a leaky intake manifold i would have a vacuum leak and it wouldn't idle smoothly, so i'm guessing it's an exhaust leak, if ony there was a dye you could put in your exhaust to show you where it's leaking.

hmm, well i posted on the zdriver forum and they seem to think it is air escaping from somewhere.

also, i think i might have an exhaust leak? can you guys tell me what's making this noise?

so nobody knows anything about the BAE turbo setup?

i just picked up a '77 280z from my uncle, he thought it had a bad head gasket because of a sound he heard, but there is no oil in the coolant and no coolant in the oil, the engine makes a sort of a popping noise while it's idling, and even when you rev it, he said there was low compression in 2 of the cylinders, but didn't remember which ones. to me it just sounds like an exhaust leak, like the exhaust manifold gasket might have blown out. i would rather not tear things apart until i had a better idea. i will take a video to post.

hey guys, i had posted on here before, but now i finally have my z, drove all the way down to Waco, Texas last week and brought it back up to NY. anyway, the car has the L28 with a BAE turbo kit on it, i can't seem to find any information on the setup, and i've never even heard of a RAJAY turbo before. is there any general knowledge that you guys can fill me in on while i keep searching? here are some pics. http://www.flickr.com/photos/26890451@N08/sets/72157619698922974/
