  1. So, today my dad and I went to a junkyard near us to pick up a 260z with a near perfect dash for $450; I saw absolutely no cracks the day we looked at it; and when we got there this morning with the trailer, one of the owners of the junkyard wasn't there so my dad called him and he said he was on his way, but his brother showed up and told us to call him on Monday because they didn't actually own the car and he needed to research it a bit to see if it was legal to sell a car they didn't technically own. He said we would go to the courthouse and find out if he could just sell it to us or if he would have to get a mechanics lean. Apparently his uncle had towed it there years and years ago, then his uncle died somewhere around 3 years ago, then the day we got the first 280z (about January 11, 2009) I think, we talked to a different guy that was these guy's dad, but he died in June, and the two brothers are trying to get the junkyard cleaned up and they want to do it legally so they don't get screwed down the road. But, the car has probably been there over a decade I think. It was last registered in '96 and it has parking stickers for Clovis High School on the windshield for '96. After that little escapade, we turned down a road right next to the junkyard and went about a block to a house with a 280z and a 240z with a SBF and talked to a woman who turned out to be the nurse of an elderly woman who lives there. She said come back in a half hour because the elderly woman's daughter and son-in-law would be there later. We dropped the car trailer back off at my dad's friends house and went back. When we got there, the daughter called her brother to see if he would sell them and he said he didn't own the 280z and the 240z wasn't for sale. His nephew owns the 280z or something, I'm not sure really. But hopefully the daughter can persuade her brother to get the cars off their mom's property or sell them to us. The 240z is COVERED in bondo, and the wheels are sunken in the ground, but its probably worth it for the SBF and mounts.

Well, on a different note, when I pulled the carbs and intake for Pharoahabq (PM me back:mrgreen:) I think I might have found out what was wrong with the 3rd cylinder. The PO told us that the 3rd cylinder had something wrong with it. heres a picture

Isn't it nice to find a dead cricket and tons of seeds and shredded up grain looking stuff inside the exhaust port? I thought that was a little weird lol.

Oh, and for Christmas I got a new crankshaft and lifters for the v8

    DSCF2796.jpg

And we finally get a tubing bender so i can get the lines in the car moved to the fender and some more fun goodies:

I know it isn't a huge update, but i just felt like posting something relevant to the project, so here ya go.

P.S. - The 260z wasn't wrecked , it was just towed there for storage or something like that.

  2. I really like the one Roostmonkey posted, it looks sleek and professional. The color and wheels help out alot too. And LowCarbZ's car looks freaking awesome, it reminds me of a Batmobile HotWheel I had when I was like 6. It might look better with like a spook on the front or maybe a custom air dam that kinda matches the lip on the skirts and rear, that would look great. Someone should photoshop that.

  3. Alright, I was just wondering. I knew it was probably going to be more than just a straight swap for the z31 because I remember reading a short thread about it, but thanks anyways. And the t-top idea was just because I felt like asking, who knows, maybe someone knew what to do.

Anyways, how safe are wheel adapters on the rear and front? I found some at http://www.ezaccessory.com/Wheel_Adapter_4_Lug_4_5_To_5_Lug_4_5_p/4450-5450.htm that seem promising, and it is the right lug pattern for some wheels I found. Because I was thinking it might not be as safe on the front just because if they're a little loose they might break. Any answers that are helpful will be appreciated .

  4. chrome is like alcohol, in moderation its good fun, in excess it usually turns out horrid, but on rare occasions, its even better...

just keep that in mind lol

looks like you guys are getting right along.

So your telling me to keep adding chrome until I die of some sort of poisoning? It's gonna be hard to find someone to dip the entire car in chrome lol. Jk

Anyways, I heard some yelling. It could have been my dad telling me to clean the kitchen though. Lol

On another note, my dad and I went junk yarding because someone emailed my dad telling him there was a 240z in a junkyard near us. We went to the junkyard, looked all around and only found one 280zx. We looked at this 280zx when the owner had it for sale for 500 bucks, non running, missing all gauges, rust through everything, some random hole in the roof with a plug in it, and the interior was totally thrashed. But thats a different story. We found a late 70's Trans Am with the little scoops on the fenders and a 3 piece wing, and we think we might go back and get those just for sh!ts and giggles. We found some nice seats that we might get out of a Ford Probe. It just depends on how wide they are. Then we went to the junkyard right next to that on and asked if they had any like 240-280zs and they were like "yeah", so we went out back and looked at the cars but didn't find any, but one worker pointed us to an 80's 300zx that was totally thrashed, then we found 2 240sx's that were in decent condition and one of them had good seats, so that's a possibility. Then i got the random idea when I saw some Camaros like the one my dad just got (the style before the brand new ones), and saw that a Firebird there had t-tops. So when I got home, I took the t tops off of my dad's Camaro and set them on the roof of the 240z and thought it might be kinda cool looking if I molded in part of the roof of the Firebird into the Z. They measure out where the Z's roof is only like .5" skinnier than the Camaro's.

Sorry about the long story, but do you think it would be easier to put Camaro T-Tops, 280zx T-tops, 300zx T-Tops, or the newer 300zx T-Tops in?

And one more question, say I get all the suspension from a 300zx (5-lug), is it a straight bolt on or am I going fab something up to make it fit right?

  5. I really haven't done much on the car lately. We used a power washer to clean most of everything out of the engine bay, then I cleaned it with a sponge and steel wool. I sanded most of the passenger side of the engine bay and did a quick rattle can primer.

But, we did buy some goodies, some chrome shorty headers, a polished intake, some chrome valve covers, the v8 engine mounts, and a chrome crankshaft cover.

Oh, and the V8 is yellow :)

    DSCF2763.jpg

    DSCF2761.jpg

I should probably get some paint stripper and strip the paint on the oil pan and repaint it black shouldn't I? I think it would look funny from certain angles with it drippy and yellow.

All I need now is to grind the engine mount holes & the engine mounts, get a speedo cable, get a drive shaft made up, and the engine will be ready to go in. Just have to find the ambition to actually go outside and do those things. I will... Eventually...

  6. I'm not trying to threadjack here, but since like February I've been wondering how you would go about putting a 280zx roof with t-tops on an s30 and be able to close the door without shattering the window and still having a water tight seal. My dad just bought a 2000 Camaro z28 with t-tops, and I still have no idea how they are water-tight.

  7. Kinser, is that a hint-hint/nudge-nudge type of thing going on with the hood latch cable? Lol.

I'll see if I can get it out in the next week. I wont go do it now because it's dark, cold, I don't want to ride my bike a mile to the 280z, and I'm making a pizza. Sooo.. Yeah.

And that sucks that more stuff is going wrong with your car. At least it's not like stuff falling off while driving or something crazy like that.

Oh, and for the floors, do what you told me to do, just cut out metal from an old refrigerator. DUMPSTER DIVING FTW!!!

  8. That's a lot of phones in 2 months, lol. Then again, I lost/messed up like 3 of those stupid Nokia 2680 sliding phones in the course of a few months.

And if the meet is the 17th of this month, its gonna be a definite no because I have semester exams from the 16th-18th. I would probably have to cut 6th and 7th period just to get there in time. And then theres the problem of me not being able to drive without one of my parents, and I don't think my dad wants to drive all the way up there. But on the upside, I get my provisional in April so I might be able to make it to one around that time frame.

And good luck with figuring out your wiring, before my dad and I pulled the l24, I spent a good 2 hours reconnecting, re-taping (because wire cuts were taped with like Christmas present tape), and matching the right wires to get the horn, the driver headlight, the turn signals, the side markers, the tail lights, the interior lights, and the radio to work. And then the passenger headlight didn't want to work with 6 different bulbs.

Even working with the wires that are there is freaking tedious, and to think, I am gonna have to rewire the entire blue Z for my dad... Ugh...

    The radio definitely helped though.

Also, I remember seeing a wiring diagram somewhere here on HBZ, but I can't seem to find it, or I'm not looking hard enough, but it helps aloooot. Even for the little bit I did.

  9. For the specific flares on that car, heres a link to his website. There is a phone number to a person with molds. I think they may only be available in CF, it says

anyone wants a copy of these CF parts (hatch, flares, fenders, hood, door panels, sills, splitter) call Al’s Bodyworks at 512-836-1851. He’s got the molds now and wants to sell more copies

but I haven't called then so you could give that a try.

    EDIT:

Whoops, I just noticed 19752802+2 posted a phone number already, I really need to refresh pages and read them before I post. I had to go to school almost 2 hours before he posted.

  10. I've got a new update!!! But, it not necessarily a good one... We were prepping the engine to pull it, and I was taking off the transmission mount, and I'm not sure the car loves me, because I'm kinda in pain now. I was using the impact gun/wrench, or whatever your call it, to take out the three bolts keeping the tranny mounted to the car, and apparently it didn't click in my brain or my dad's brain that when I took off the 1st bolt off and the transmission dropped a little to get a jack stand or a bottle jack to set it on. The transmission fell on the impact gun, and pinched my finder against the ground. Here are some pics of the aftermath: Also, the stock motor mounts must be really weak or than transmission must way a lot, because the entire engine is tilted back.

First lets start off with some pics of the engine and tranny:

And a nice picture of the engine sticking up above where the hood would normally be:

AND NOW FOR THE GRAND FINALE!!! Pictures of my finger....

    DSCF2678.jpg

    DSCF2683.jpg

I have two vertical, straight line fractures in the tip portion of the finger. One fracture is apparently going from the tip to the joint and the other doesn't quite reach the joint.

I go back to the doctor on Monday, soooooo, I guess you might get another update soon? Hopefully. :burnout:

  11. We did a quick mock up today with the wide body, and it looks like its gonna come out looking great after some work, here are some pics:

This one looks weird because the tape didn't want to hold up the quarter on the driver's side:

  12. I'd think cow head meat would be better; the tongue, cooked or not, creeps me out. It's like making out with a cow.

Halo (any of 'em) or Gears of War? For the people who like video games, or have played either one.

  13. I play WoW *tries to hide shame*,

I mainly play on Kil' Jaedan, Horde, 74 Hunter, 23 Druid, 23 Warrior, and a 60 Death Knight.

I play on Tichondrius too, Alliance, I've got a 23 Paladin and a 57 Death Knight.

I've got a bunch of characters from lvl 3-12 that I made when I got bored. I dont ever play them, but I might eventually, who knows...

    Thats about it.
