  1. My thoughts are.......the only reason V8 swaps were ever done in the '70s is because there was nothing else to do, heck, the V06 crank wasnt even around yet and turbos were unreliable at best, (remember cartech/rajay blow-through weber w/ pressurized airbox)? Now with the twin cam 24 valve RB dett NISSAN motor I just dont get it....why would anyone waste their time and $ on anything but that swap, it is a NISSAN motor, anyone who really wants BIG power that is. I just don't get it, the L series motor was great back in the 70's...but this is 2009. I wouldnt waste any money on the L6, other than a cheap stroker setup, V06 crank, ka24 pistons, 240 rods etc, go Nissan RB, its essentially a modern L6 with an OS Giken dohc head and that head was $12K ALONE!!! Go LS if you dont care about having a nissan mill in the engine bay. For what its worth, I have owned my Z since 1983 and I still have it and now three more (not that that means crap to anyone but me)
  2. my advice; and I STILL have my first Z car that I bought back in 1983 when I was 17, is before you buy a kit- first- get the wheels or at least source and price them (they are not free like your car) as this will determine what kit you want, can have one without the other...wheel width determines what flare width to purchase (and there are many types and styles of flares) if the wheels aren't wide enough for the fenders, the look won't be quite correct...even silly funny lookin', the kit that you like is a full blown IMSA kit using 12 inch wide rear wheels and secondly MOST kits destroy the value of a car unfortunately, but in fact it is your car, you and Pop wanted a numbers matching car... why may I ask? If I were to do it all over again, I would use ZG flares with 9.5" wide Watanabe wheels, the flares can be found all over (MSA for starters) and the wheels are still available brand new in Japan (I got a set recently). Good luck, young man...remember it is YOUR car so throw caution to the wind and do what YOU want to do, but others may not like it when or if it becomes time to sell it, for what it's worth. W
  3. I drove my 260 from '83 to '94 everyday, switched to a 280 in late '94, it seemed the fuel injection system created a much less obtrusive gas aroma inside the cab than the early su and later weber triple carbs did...I also found that new rear hatch rubber (and a hatch that seals tightly and properly with an adjusted latch) and rear brake light rubber will go along way in sealing against exhaust re-entry. Also make sure the exhaust pipes are welded at the seems and sealed their entire lengths, this will also help promote a friendly cab environment. For what its worth...
  4. Sold it, ZZZeee? You really mean is that you unloaded it, you obviously HAD to part with it, ie give it away. In my experiences, you will never accumulate any wealth if you give everything away. ZZZeee, I assume that you are a young man, I have owned this Z since 1983, it is my first car and not a wreck yet. Im not gonna give it away just because you gave yours away for any number of reasons, do you have a car to sell him or not...no, then please dont piss in the punch....eh??? PS about San Antonio, and no offense intended to ZZZeee, Hank Hill said it best "what kind of person would live in SA?" Get out of there while you are young, there are no oppurtunities there, it is a dead tourist driven town with one less USAF base then it had when I lived there. People know to come and steal cars from you, dont you see? I was born and raised there and got the heck out as soon as I got my BA from UTSA. 1984 OW Holmes grad. Run to Austin or Dallas or even Houston, ZZZeee run ZZZeee RUUNNN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just trying to help. About my roller, it is stripped and rolls and on Craigslist, I built the body from four flares and a tail in the late '80s and repainted it in my garage in the late 90's. It sat under a tarp since then (drove my third gen RX7 since then, that is for sell also).....now I am ready to unload it, give it away ZZZeee style for about $2.5K......wealth is for fat old bald men anyway....ZZZeee may be correct....I want to live dammit...LIVE!!! Shoot some questions or better yet come by for a visit to see it?? Sorry about my typing skills...I learned typing in school...thats typing with paper... compounded with the distraction of a beautiful young lady sitting across the aisle from me!
  5. I've got a extra '74 custom IMSA shell in N. Austin, frame is good, some rust on panels...easily made beautiful again, but your price is too low.
