  2. If your goal is only going to be 350-400ish, i would go with a TH350. It will hold the power, is slightly smaller, and is less parasidic with the drivetrain loss.
  3. What are your power goals... And why did you choose the TH400 if you dont mind me asking...
  4. hey grumpy, i have a question. Can oil/trans coolers be too big? I have a 350 with a TH350 auto with 3.90 rear gears in my Z, and i was wondering if it would be ok to use -8AN (1/2" tube) with it, and the cooler i have laying around is pretty big. The trans is upgraded, with a shift kit/full manual valvebody, and i have a high flow oil pump. And i do drive hard on the weekends....
  5. just remember to stick the engine as far back as possible. oh, and this should be moved into the GM gen 1/2 discussion, because its still a GM engine.
  6. Im not a fan of the stuff. I believe its supposed to last somewhere around 5years 100k miles or something. My truck was way under that and that ♥♥♥♥ turned to a sludge and i ended up having to replace my intake manifold along with having to do a full chemical flush because it corroded the coolant ports. If you use it, i would change it every 1.5/2 years...maybe even sooner.
  7. what kind of mounts do the JTR use? i have a set of block huggers that should work, as long as they dont use the clamshell mounts.

  9. Couldn't he use a set of mount adapters that adapt the SBC to LSx engines? I would imagine since he has a SBC in his car already he could use them. I was kinda planning to go this route eventually because i can pick up a LQ9 fairly cheap b/c my dad has a couple at his wrecking yard.

  11. hey grumpy, i have a question for you. Do you know of a company that sells a driver side low/mid mount alt bracket for a SBC with a long water pump. All the ones ive seen are for a short pump. If i can avoid it, i would rather not have to replace all my pulley's and pump since i just bought them. I need to move it to that side so i can 1) close my hood, and 2) use my stock power steering lines without having to have custom ones made.

  13. My car will be done with electrical tomorrow. Then im going to exhaust on thursday, and he should be able to do it in a day. Woo hoo, i might get to drive my car to work in saturday... god i want to drive t-tops down SOOOOOOOOOOOOO BAD!
  14. I want to see this thing run already lol. This was the motor i wouldve used if i didnt get a free 350 and TH350 lol.
  15. wouldnt a front sump pan have the engine sit too far forward and mess up how the car handles? i dont think you could keep the engine low enough or far back enough for it to work... The trans will fit, but worst case is, you just have to "massage" the trans tunnel. The only thing i wouldve had problems fitting is if i had used a TH400 because the bellhousing is MASSIVE. I wouldve had to beat the ♥♥♥♥ out of the tunnel.
  16. Im assuming he used the pop off valve on the side of the intake to regulate boost into the engine...just my assumption though...

  19. Lol..this is so the truth. The only reason i have a TH350 in my car is because i got it for free(and it only had 1k miles on it since being rebuilt by a really good local shop), and because i dont drive too often on the freeway. When you couple my 3spd auto with the 88NA z31 rearend ratio of like 3.9:1...well...yea.... you get the idea. On the plus side, 45mph crusing will have to be a MUST! no more speeding tickets.
  20. already have them...only one i dont have is the speedo(waiting to do that last) i have: RPM, Oil pressure, Water Temp, Volt, Fuel Pressure, and Oil Temp im going to drive it over there now....Now i get to play "avoid the popo" lol
  21. it is HEI. my friend is going to be cleaning up the things in the stock harness that dont need to be there. He's also going to be putting my stock fuel pump on a toggle switch for me along with some misc. other things my car needs that ive been to lazy to do. He's doing it for me really cheap b/c my dad has been sending him business for at least the past 15 years.
  22. Finally got the car driving. It was having a problem of dying when in gear. Drove it around the block. Im going to drive it to the electrical shop tomorrow.
  23. hey when you spray the tremclad(which is basicly rustoleum in the states i believe) whats the dilution rate and what do you use to thin it. I used mineral spirits the last time i did it. I think im going to try again though.
