  1. I finally got my throttle body back. The original spring broke after bending it multiple times trying to make it fit and I didn't really like the way it was attaching to the 240 TB per the instructions I found at http://www.graytechsoftware.com/garage/tbs_linkage.asp I ended it adding a secondary spring from the 1982 turbo throttle body. 2. He had some medical issues, his main assembler had a hernia operation right in the middle of it, the pistons had to be custom made, it was a long wait but it's right. I got the 78 L28E pulled today.
  3. Thank you. The machine shop had it for 10 months so I'm getting pretty excited to move forward. It has come a long way
  4. Next came suspension, new springs, struts/shocks, over sized swaybars, new bushings everywhere, and turbo wheels from the donar car. All that lowered it by about an inch.
  5. Thank You, first to go was that lower valance. I always liked the airdam look.
  6. I know there are lots of these threads, but most are pretty old. Maybe someone might be interested. I have a 78 280Z, I found a 82 ZXT on craigslist and bought it. My goal here is to make a drivable stock looking 280Z with some a$$ I have no illusions of out running a modern Camaro or Mustang, but I'd like to make them earn it. so here we go As bought almost two years ago.
  7. I couldn't find one so I just replaced it with two modern relays.
  8. This is what I found. The Ignition relay gets its ground through the mounting bracket and was intermittent.
  9. I had the same issue, it turned out to be the ignition relay. and the 1978 FSM is WRONG this is corrected
  10. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1970-datsun-240z-39/?fbclid=IwAR36HR7S0DSYjLFh-kHWT7Uhg94NgUOaXTzT7x6odsRcxJD10m8F5fkDg00 totally out of my reach but I'd like to see it in person.
  11. I was told synthetic was so slick it could prevent rings from seating properly.
  12. Before I get flamed for another oil question...... Lots a reading on the subject of oil and the L28 engine and as many opinions as there are (fill in the blank). I'm a big fan of Amsoil, I had a 2001 VW Jetta that I sold still running with 475K miles on it. So I decided to check out what Amsoil suggested for the L28ET. If you select the make, model, engine etc they suggest "Signature Series 10W-30 Synthetic Motor Oil". Now for some background info, I have an 82 L28ET that I've just gotten back from the machine shop, full rebuild, David Vizard did the head work and the engine was actually assembled by Scott McLaren a former crew chief for Paul Newman. He got very specific on the oil needing a high zinc content because of the flat-tappet camshaft which the "Signature Series" Amsoil does NOT have. So I did a search on the Amsoil site for "zinc" and found "AMSOIL Z-ROD Synthetic Motor Oil, specially engineered for classic and high-performance vehicles. A high-zinc formulation to prevent wear on flat-tappet camshafts and other critical engine components, along with a proprietary blend of rust and corrosion inhibitors for added protection during long-term storage." https://www.amsoil.com/shop/by-product/motor-oil/gasoline/z-rod-10w-30-synthetic-motor-oil/?code=ZRTQT-EA So the question is, AFTER a normal break-in with non synthetic, anyone have an opinion on modern oils with zinc? I think it' sounds like just what the Dr ordered but I'd hate to goof up a fresh overhaul. Anyone tried Amsoil Z-Rod?
  13. I bought a used rear defogger switch off eBay to control the relay that came with the lights and put it in the spot that looks like where power window switches would go to the right of the hazard switch in the center console. They can come on with just the parking lights and stay on with high and low beam. Green LED is off, red is on. Amazon has the light kit for ~$200 so don't order from PIAA. I saw somewhere online that Datsun made a foglight switch for the S30 but I never could find one for sale. The lights get very hot when they're on, they are metal and glass so nothing gets damaged except your hands when aiming them. I'd really like to find an LED replacement bulb that would fit.
  14. I put these on my Z, they're not LED yet but I've been looking for an LED replacement bulb that will fit. http://www.piaa.com/store/p/71-2100XT-Fog-XTreme-White-Plus-Halogen.aspx
  15. Here’s an older thread with some options https://forums.hybridz.org/topic/127971-led-headlight-bulbs-anyone-tried-them/
  16. Dang.... spanked by a "Clandestine Moderator". my bad
  17. How loud is this setup vs. an "in tank" pump? Dave
  18. Sanch, create a gmail account, use that account to create a FB profile. It doesn't have to have any of your personal info on it and use it to contact Pallnet. Not that hard if you really want one. Dave
  19. Make something up.... worked for me.....
  20. I bought it from the original owner so I'm going with it's stock. It came with the original bill of sale. I have a R200 from a 1982ZXT as well, but I was under the impression the '78s came stock with a R180.
  21. According to this my 78Z has an R200, I was under the impression it was a R180. Is this correct? http://www.zhome.com/ZCMnL/tech/GearRatios.html
  22. https://www.instagram.com/vintagedashes/?hl=en I know the guy personally, if fact I bought my Z from him. I'm not sure if he has them or it's a special order thing.
