  1. I haven't seen an 81 in person, let alone an 81 turbo, but don't most Zs have pumps wired in using studs with nuts. What is this plug that is being unplugged to disconnect your fuel pump? Or are you unplugging a relay? Do you have a picture?

im disconnecting the power to the fuel pump in the hatch area. By unplugging a 2 wire clip. I normally do this as a theft deterrent. If my car tries to get stolen it wouldnt go anywhere since it would only run for a few seconds.

  2. Hmm... Which one of the two sensors on the therstat housing is the temp sensor?

i let the car run yesyerday gor about 15 mins idling normally with the pump unplugged. Then i slowly began to rev the motor and got it up to 5000 before it cut out abit. Plugged in the pump while it was still idling and instant death again. One time i managed to keep the car running after i plugged in the pump but as soon as i touched the throttle again just instant flood.

Sadly i dont have an extra ecu or know anyone around that can lend me one just to rule it out.

  3. So today i drove to work in the morning and the car ran fine. When i was going to leave work the car wouldnt start. It would crank over really fast and all i would smell is fuel. I encountered this problem a while back with an old afm that the flap would stay stick open. Soi check the flap everything is fine. I check for spark, got it. Fuel for sure i was getting.

What i find very odd is that if i disconnect the fuel pump the car starts and idles. If i rev slowly it still stays on. As soon as i plug the fuel pump back on it floods and turns off. My guess the afm sending a full throttle signal to the injectors?

I tired 2 different afm`s now. Neither helped to start the car. Could it be the CAS? But i doubt it since the car runs w/o power to the fuel pump.

Any ideas guys? Should i try a third afm before i open a can of worms and rule out other things that might be the problem?

  4. needs more wheel...ditch those xxr's for the rotas and fill out those wells, and most of us that like our cars dont slam them because we dont want to screw up the nice body, like your front lip that got broken off. But then again when the whole passenger side of the car is crushed in, the floors/rails being repeatedly raped by scraping doesnt really matter now does it...

My cars not slammed. Its at a decent ride height for me daily driving it in the jacked up streets of LA. And my front lip just so you know was the work of some hater in Valenica that kicked it in. How do i know? his big ass foot print was on the piece that was barely dangling on LOL I am thinking about some other wheels already tho.

  5. I Too share the Love for the Less wanted ZX Breed. If people only gave it a chance they could see how awesome the car really is. Only problem i see is that most of the people i see on the street driving a zx are old and the car is beat to a pulp! Give to the right set of hands the car is amazing! PurepontiacKid, your Stance is Awesome! Ive yet to see another slammed ZX!

Anyways here's the Love of my present Life Zoe! =D

  6. So ive had my car for about a year and a half now. I recently was going to sell my car but had a change of heart. Love my car too much! Thanks to Yasin and Hughdogz. They are a big inspiration for working on my car. Seeing the devotion they have for the ZX Platform as much as I do just makes me want to do better. Everywhere i go people and friends always tell me. Damn i didnt know the ZX could look like that. It makes me feel really good about my car. Im not going to lie i love the Z platform as well and have owned one. But i prefer the bigger sexy curves of the ZX. Anyways, Im always doing something to my car and just thought id share with my fellow Hybrid members. So with out further due, id like to present my project Zoe! :D

This is what Zoe looked like when i first pick her up.

One of the first things i did to the car, obviously after regular maintenence was install some Tinted Headlight covers.

I also fabbed up a strut brace for the rear of the car from some left over parts I had laying around at the shop.

You might notice the base for it is a 3 inch exhaust flange. With very minor trimming to one hole, the flange fits the bolt pattern of the rear bolts perfectly.

I love purple and i have incorporated the color into many things. The strut brace is one of them. Except This felt like too much purple.

    8232_1153021759460_1645155528_387058_92946_n.jpg

So I kept a little Purple and Threw some white on it. I was pretty happy for the finished product. As for the strut brace being really effecient. I cant be 100% sure, it does feel like it tighten things up a bit.

If you have never used Mothers polish. Do yourself a favor and use it! it works AMAZING!!! i got a little crazy and polished so many things. hahaha.

The centerline wheels before i discovered mothers...

Then i polished my new fuel filter

Anyways ill post up some more stuff later

  7. The cap isnt sealed. I dont think that was my problem. I tested everything with a multimeter and everything was good. I read about insufficent grounds. I added several new groundwires from afm, block, coil area, and Intake manifold to the neg battery post. NO MORE ISSUES since. Might want to add a few!!

Hmmm... interesting! You know one thing i do notice is that every single time i get out of my car i get Zapped! As soon as i touch the body/chasis anything metal. ZAP! Sometimes its mild, sometimes its really strong. Ive seen the blue spark at night. i wonder if i dont have enough grounds then?

  8. I am currently suffering from same problem. 82 280zxt. The issue is it isnt constantly happening so finding out why is difficult. Mine Is extremely rich. sometimes in the morning it stalls out and I have to cut power to fuel pump (kill switch) and crank it over a few times. I have also Had smoke screens flare up when stop lights turn green with no explanation no excessive accelaration. I never know when the gremlins are gonna hit. I have dialed back the afm and I think it helped some, changed fuel filter, spark plugs, wires are good, Injectors are supposedly new remans. The turbo spools up nicely. All electrical contacts I can find have been cleaned, fuel pressure steady at idle and climb nicely with acceleration. Fuel lines changed to fuel inj lines. Aftermarket jsk fuel rail. Cht sensor kills or almost kills car when unplugged. Good connections on all other temp sensors.

Sorry I have no answers, just more questions.

Well Thanks for the try, I havent had the problem again. But i hate waiting for it. Its going to pop up when i really need to do something important and its going to suck. :-(

  9. have you changed the fuel filter lately? Have you checked your fuel pressure? That would be the first thing to look at. You need air, fuel and spark to run so be sure your are getting air and fuel.

I replaced the Fuel filter 2 months ago, Ill check the fuel pressure this weekend. Oddly enough the car has been running fine so far again. ?_?

  10. So ive been searching around the forum to see if anyone else has had the problem my car has recently began to annoy me with. So far no luck at all.

So this is the issue im having...

About 3 weeks ago while i was driving on the freeway. Cruising at 65@ about 2800 to 3000 rpm's. Out of nowhere the car began to lose power, The rpm's began to fall even tho my foot had the same pressure on the gas. I look over at my A/F ratio's and the car is leaning out. While this is happening I look at my rear view mirror and the car is puffing out a light smoke screen. All Black, and the smell was horrible! The only thing i can reference the smell to is Burning hair mixed with ammonia. I had to drive the car above 4000 rpms for it to stay on. I get off the freeway and checked everything out. The plugs looked pretty bad so i replaced them on the spot. Started the car and the problem was gone.

Now this past weekend the exact same thing happen while i was stuck in traffic on the freeway. The idle began to drop really low 200 to 300 rpms. It would go down low enough for all the dash lights to turn on as if the car had stalled. At which point the car did stall on me 3 times. I had to keep the motor alive by giving it gas and that smell came back. I wonder what people next to me where thinking? Im sitting there in parking lot traffic not moving but revving my motor at 3k rpms just so that it stops stalling out. So anyways I get off and check everything out and this time the plugs where fine. So i start checking for vacuum leaks. Everything is fine. The A/F ratio was right on mark not leaning out or anything. Fuel filter is brand new, Spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor all new as well. So im sitting there clueless this time. I start the car again and its idling fine. But as soon as i would give it gas, it would stumble first and then rev up. Then right after it would rev up the motor would die or the rpms would dip really low and the engine would barely stay turned on.

This morning however everything was fine again. No idle issues, no stalling, no funny smells. The only thing i can possibly think of thats maybe going bad is the AFM? Does anyone know the symptoms of a bad afm?

  11. Those who have used it and experienced benefits, are you using it just in the gas tank or oil, or a combination of the two? I'm a bit leery of adding it straight to the intake.

I Have actually used it for all 3 Applications as it specifies on the Bottle. I poured 1 bottle in my gas tank. Which worked Amazingly Great to clean my injectors. 1/2 of a bottle in the Oil, which cleans out the botton end of the motor. Then Lastly in the intake, The only thing i recommend you do after you run seafoam in the intake is replacing your Spark plugs. All the Gunk Carbon build up will stick to the plugs.

I found this out 3 days after doing it. I was driving on the freeway and all of a sudden my car started loosing power and back firing. It would Puff out the Nastiest smelling smoke ever! I pulled over at a gas station. Check out everything, and pulled a plug. Boy O' Boy where they the darkest most carbon filled plugs ever. Luckily I carry a spare set with me in the car. I swapped them out. Started the car. Problem Gone. =)

But Seriously, SeaFoam WORKS GREAT!!! :hail:

  12. To me, this is a shame, the rotory is a beautiful piece of engineering, and tons upon tons of power is available. i just cant for the life of me understand swapping it for any other engine. In fact, I'd love to swap in a 3 or 4 rotor for the z, and my IS300. to put it this way, if you are able to build a quad rotor, and have a dremel, you can have 450 hp, N/A without sacrificing any drivability. and the torque figures are pretty decent too...

I agree with what you have to say up to a certain point. I have a friend that has a 3 rotor Turbo Fc 500 hp to the wheels, It sounds amazing! He also has 4 rotor blocks sitting in his shop. But do you know how much one of those motors alone cost? At the very least if someone is trying to give it away 14k!

14K, Just for a motor ALONE! You still have to do all the fab work to get this beast running. Put you down the hole at least another 20k Minimum. Thats also if you happen to be doing all the fab work yourself. If not be ready to dish out quiet a bit in Fabrication Labor. You wont really have any feed back or tech support because not very many people have done this swap.

When in turn even being expensive about it, You can buy an LS1 Crate Motor for 5k Go turbo on it and call it a day for 14k. Which ALOT of people have already done. And parts for it are in bountiful quantities in most local Auto Parts places.

Dyno numbers will be the same too sadly for the 14k you spend on the LS1 Turbo Swap. Compared to the 35K+ 4 rotor NA!

I think what the Scoot will have a major advantage is in Cool Points! You dont see very many around, So your mouth just drops at the sight and sound of one.

Not to say that i wont Love to have a 4 rotor under the hood of my 10th AE, But I'm not a millionaire so i have to stick with what is logical and works. :burnout:

  13. I for one Love and will always Own Z's and Rx-7's. Its just my grind. I just picked up my 3rd Rx7 last week actually. An 88 10th AE. I Love the Rotary motor as well. The way it works and everyhing. But you just have to admit. They are not as cheap or reliable as a piston motor. I mean when was the last time you heard about a 3000 HP Rotary? Anyone?

Yeah, Rotaries cant handle that kind of power. If and when they do, it wont be reliable power. You will always be anxious and waiting when is it going to blow. Thats actually the way i feel driving my own rx7 which is stock and daily driven.

Some people just Love the motor so much that they will ignore facts of what works and what doesnt. I KNOW! I use to be one of those people. I would put my life on the line to say Rotaries where the ♥♥♥♥! But when it all comes down to it. My beloved Rotary is expensive, Underpowered, No torque, and a Gas Guzzler! But I still Love it!
