  1. My impression was that the 'maro tank was lighter than the datsun unit. I presume you weighed the whole assembly' date=' including the beefy brackets, to arrive at 41lbs.

My 14ga (overkill) tirewell cover weighed (by feel, not scale) more than the old tirewell. I'm hesitant to weld the cover in place. Mine's installed with screws so I can remove the whole thing if I need to get at something.

Your 73 240 must have a much different filler than my 71. Mine had a very, very large, stiff plastic filler that I had to remove just to get the 'maro tank in place. And it was a [i']huge[/i] pain to remove too. Had to cut it up with a sawzall.

None of you felt compelled to put in a crash brace behind the tank?

I know at some point I will have to put in a fuel cell - which is a damn shame since this fbody tank fits so nicely.

I havnt seen the Marco tank...I know the LS1 tank is lighter then the Datsun unit for sure. It's plastic and the mounts I made are pretty light too.The fuel pump is internal so you cant even hear it.I welded the 16ga cover in and thought about fabricating a door to acess it, if I need to.I probaly wont because I can just unbolt the straps.I am going to dynamat the rear of the car.I fabriacted a filler out of 2 mandrell pieces of tubing but I'm going to use the stock Camaro filler.Works perfect.I used to have a huge plastic tube when i got the car from Cyrus but I had to change that real quick.

Never thought about a crash brace behind the tank. There is no room for a brace or anything that is going to help.If someone rear ends me.......they better hope my car blows up with me in it.

  2. It would have been SO EASY to do it upside down!

Well that makes four of us now with the LS1 fuel tank. Do you have pictures of your brackets? Did you use the two long 240Z straps?

    !M!

Here is a picture of my mounting brackets you were asking about.Straps came from a 300ZX...A little wider then most.Still need to get this stuff powercoated' date='all in good tme.

  3. Dam..that sucks.I ran into alot of guys like that that worked on my last Z.I just wanted to punch them right in the F!@#in face. When I want something done right., I do it my self now.If I dont know how to do it...I will ask friends advise but that's it.

If your interested in having someone work on your car that does custom fabrication.I could recommend a couple guys that I know that used to work for Dominator. They do excellent work and one of them is working on my cousins (Darius) car. They are in Pleasant Hill. You can look at the fab work on my cage and D's car and see his work.He wont talk crap to you either, he's cool.

  4. Hey there Myron,I gave my LS1 motor mounts to Mike (JTR) to copy and start to mass produce.Hope fully he will be done if a couple weeks here.

how soon is a couple of weeks? a month maybe two?

Is it is that soon then I wouldnt mind scraping my plans for a lt1 and waiting.

I would scrape plans for the LT1 if I was you.Mike from JTR already has a set and I'll be getting my set here in a week or so.Mas280 has been working with him more then me.They will be out real soon.I would check back in 2 weeks. He has headers for the LS1 240Z convertion already and is about to market them.He dropped off a set here at my house and the headers look sweet. They are made from Sanderson's and are seamless with 3inch outlet.

If you do go with the LS1....I have a harness that has been modified and ready for the convertion. All you need to do is plug everything in on the motor and hook-up like 7 wired that are labled...easy as that.I'll be ebaying is in a couple days.

  5. Hey there Cyrus...Khashabi1 here. What's goin on with the Z?.....Have you considered going back to the LS1 to go faster? Before you sold me the blue Z,you were running 12.00 @ 119mph with pizza cutters and blown shocks. The motor was totaly stock....not even exaust or cold air.I stripped the blue Z of the motor & tranny if your iterested in buying it back to drop in a V8.The LS1 motor mounts will be available in a couple weeks.I put a full cage in it and full suspention.I even dyna matted the car.You just need a motor & tranny.

  6. Hey guys' date='

As some of you already know, I scored a 98 LS1 donor car... I am looking for motor mount pics if you have any... If so, please send them or a link to "myron@axcesstech.net" I have tons of 1/4 aluminum plate that I would like to use to fab up some mounts... the motor is still in the donor car and I wont have it in the same location as my Z for a few weeks...

Hey there Myron,I gave my LS1 motor mounts to Mike (JTR) to copy and start to mass produce.Hope fully he will be done if a couple weeks here.

  7. That sucks about your tranny......I heard you and Mike roastin the hell out of those wheels last night. You guys were like 3 miles away......That probaly didnt help the tranny none. :D I feel the same way about the 1/4 track.I dont care to much for the auto if it's in a sports car.Unless i realy set it up for the 1/4 track.I race on the street more then anything.Racing from start to finish is cool....but I like it when your just crusin along and someone tryes to front on you.I just tap that throttle and smooooke that Mother!@#$

I want your opinions!!! As most of you know' date=' I built my Z with the 4L60E. The trans went out today. I will do an update with details later. I'm thinking about switching to a 6 speed. I liked the auto till it broke. Then all these thoughts are going through my head...... The Z being a sports car should be a 6-speed? I think the 1/4 mile times will be better with the auto. But... The car is not gonna be a 1/4 mile track car. I wanna be part of the 11 second club. Possible with a manual? My plans for the car are to drive it the way she wants to be driven!! Mountain roads, Freeway and around town. Please let me know your personal opinions!

THANK YOU- YOU GUYS ARE GREAT!

    JOEY [/quote']

  8. Well....when ever someone emails me or call me about stuff I'm selling from the car......Everyone knows this car as the chicken coop Z. Other guys put my old posting on a few other Z sites so basicly, I get emails from California to NY and all the way from Australia.I dont have alot of fans in Australia. They dont like what I'm doing to the car.One of them should have bought it then when it was on ebay.

So is that gonna be the official name of your Z?

    the "Chicken Coop Z" :D:D

  9. Yeh...I'm glad about not having to and rust repair at all.I removed all the sound deadner from the in side.I was told there is usualy rust under neith it, but still clean with out a speck.I took a picture of the floor board before I removed it.

amazing huh!!! No rust at all there!! Almost a shame to have to do all that work to that car since most old Z's like it require a rotisserie and a lot of rust repair. It really looks new!! Can't wait to see it when you are done.
  10. I finally got the car back from the guy who was building my cage. I stripped all the body parts off it and put it on the rotisserie as you can see.I'm in the middle of removing the existing frame rails and replacing them with 1X3 inch square tubing from front to back for re-enforcement.The under carriage looks pretty clean and not all dented up like most 240's I've seen. It's not even rusty on there.Sucks I had to tear into it :( . I cut the spare tire area out also so I can install the Camaro gas tank. I already made the mounts and are ready for install. All the body parts are getting media blasted tomorrow and the shell is getting it next week. They are blasting the complete undercarriage, wheel wells, engine bay and of course the exterior.I'm getting the under carriage sprayed with Line-X.I will be lookin for a good body shop in about month around the SF Bay Area. Anybody know of a good one????I don't want to spend over $4500 and I will be picky...Sorry.I don't mind spending a little more but I want it done right.

For the most part.....the project is moving right along with out problems except for the $$$$ like most of us, but it's not slowing me down.I plan on completing restoring this car and practically replacing every nut and bolt by January 1, 2005. Let me know what you guys think......

I have this front valance that I dont need so I will be ebaying it real soon. What do you guys think it's worth? It's in pretty good condition.

  11. I know the picture's crappy...it's just so they can get an idea what he is talkin about ...not do a color match.

thats a pretty crappy picture. No one is gonna be able to identify anything from that, its too dark and there are too many shadows. You need to go to a paint shop find an orange that really appeals to you and then get a custom mix made.
  12. I can sell you a 71 240 with the flares already done in the rear to fit 275's.It will cost you more to have a body shop do it to your car then what I would charge you for my car.The car had very mild rust in the rear and it was all repaired. The flares I had done were hand made on a English wheel and hand crafted and one of a kind. It's not a kit like everybody has.I wanted to save the body lines so I had then custom built by Norm Archer metal shaping at Infinion Race way in Sonona. The car has a cage and full coil over W/camber plates.I spent $2500 just on the flares and the suspention has 50 miles on it and is still new.I have a gang load of parts for it too I will just throw in.

Im looking to install a MSA body kit with flares. The flares will need to be blended into the front and rear bumpers. I also want to paint the car.

    I live in Newhall' date=' CA 91321.

Anyone know of any reliable/competent body shops in my area (~LA area)?

    Thanks.[/quote']

  13. I was told that the 240 panel will only work on a 240.I wanted to get a carbon fiber panel also.It wasnt on the top of my list because i just got my panel powercoated silver with a lite flake in it.This guy is capable to do that kind of work.I dont think it's cheap...buy I know it would be one off, that's for sure.

I would like to get the rear light panel on my Z in carbon fiber, would look good I reckon. But would the 240z light panel be the same as the 260z 2+2's?
  14. Yeh...your right. It's easier to work with a car that has no body damage and lots of rust.I already pulled the motor and tranny and the car is getting a roll cage as we speak...NO TURNING BACK NOW

I will be documenting everythink with this build,Step by step....I will be putting the car on a rotisery when I get it back and modifying a few things with my new plasma toy I just got :flamedevil:

    .I'M BUILDING IT!!!

Pleased to see you have made a decsion - after all your car' date=' money, time and love....err effort. I once owned HS30 00016 (RHD 00016 and it appears that Datsun/Nissan did run the same s/numbers in the beginning) and it was flared, sunroof, rusty etc result sold for a few $$ more than I paid for her. She has then shipped from NZ to Australia I believe it is still waiting the major rebuild by the owner I sold her to.

I believe if you rebuilding a Hybrid-Z, racecar or just restoring a Z you will want to start with the cleanest body you can get. So good on you for the excellent find and good luck with the build.

PS Has any one put an Audi 4.2l V8 into a Zed :?::D Not sure if it would fit :?:[/quote']
