  2. LoL -

I live in Oregon, which means it rains, rains, rains, and rains some more all winter, so I've been hibernating really. I honestly haven't touched the car for about three months.

I do have updates though -

I've got two corbeau forzas ready to go in, just need to fabricate some mounts for them, plus got the front and rear fiberglass bumpers for it.

Then it's just some paint on the hood, bumpers, and front valance, then I have to buy a couple things to get driving really:

    Tach and Speedo

    Exhaust ???

But, to be presentable, I need to buy the following -

    Wheels/Tires 1100

    Fender Flares 250

    Megan Coilovers 800

    Adapter Tubes 250

    Rear Spoiler 250

This weekend I'll be working on the brakes and looking at getting the interior done and seats started/fitted - I'll take some pics too. Gimme 3k and I'll speed it all right up!

  3. Well, got the dash in and wired up mostly... still missing speedo and tach, but all the other gauges are there and running. Pressed the start button and vrooom... she works.

I only ran the engine for like 5 seconds, but it turned over and started! Next week is working on other things, but it's at least able to kick over and start.

  4. It's a crap-shoot for an SR20DET from Canada.... If you can buy a clip locally, DO IT. Spend the extra money to take a look at the engine at least.

I haven't found a cheap online vendor which doesn't have at least a few critiques or bad experiences... especially the toronto group of shops who go by all kinds of names. Seems like with all the 240sx guys out there doing swaps with DETs, there has to be a shop at least somewhere near at worst a couple hours from you that can get a clip or has a local tie to you that can give you a better chance at a good experience and better warranty or fixing hopes...

(be aware that all of their "Warranties" necessitate install by a certified mechanic at a certified shop and within 30 days of receipt, you must have it installed, running, and troubleshooted)

From personal experience and if you want to clean it, do all the seals, install, and troubleshoot all those little things, 30 days is a very short period of time to make it happen

To pay for that, you might as well pay more for an engine locally and do it yourself and take your time, any good shop locally generally will at least work with you if you face a fatal engine issue I'd hope. I'm quite sure you'd have a better experience than trying to work it out over the phone or email with some dude in Canada.

If all else fails though - They're just engines, in the worst case scenario, you get to put new fun pieces in and learn a ton about your engine while doing it. if you're committed to SR20s anyways, you might as well learn internals so you can hit big power someday.

  5. I sold my S2000 for this very reason. I was a cop magnet in a Modified Honda... Decided to ditch the brand and go for older cars... hopefully I'll be able to have my modern import kick with less hassle from the cops... although this thread scares me.

I was pulled over within 45 minutes one night for "Loud Exhaust" in the S2K - Which was stock, and then later for "Fast Acceleration", said he heard me accelerate and it sounded like I was racing (against no one on an empty road and didn't even break 50 in a 55, as I was already paranoid after the first stop). Then, I got kicked by a drunk motorcyclist 30 minutes after that and ended up in the back of a police car going to identify the guy where the cops caught up to him. That night I decided the car needed to go.

My Honda Buddy was pulled over two weeks ago twice, with the second stop within 10 minutes of the first stop - One State, One Local. He makes the mistake of driving his girl's dropped red civic after midnight... This is his girlfriends car...

guess they were looking for streetracers... The car matches the profile. I'd never drive it around at night just due to the magnet it is for police.

  6. Thanks! I'm still out a ways on what I want, but it's getting there. I make much much less that I used to when I built my other cars in the past, so I really pace myself with costs... I save a TON on labor, but all the little things and details I'm picky about add up quick.

Seats/Suspension/Wheels/Tires/Bumpers/Flares/Spoiler.... I still need to finish the build aspect of it.

Diff/Turbo Upgrade/Injectors/ECU to finish the list... But that's years out...

I'm patient. I just keep plugging away here and there

  7. Essentially, yes...

I took the stock gauges apart and replaced the plastic faces in them with thicker plexi I cut to the same size. I covered those plexi pieces to make them less shiney and them glued them into the stock gauge cups. Then, I just cut a hole right in the middle of my covered plexi to slide the gauges in at 52mm.... Here's a better pic from today, but the gaps look great.

  8. I have 52mm prosports and I just took out the stock gauges and took them apart. I cut out plexi in a circle in the same size as the original gauge plastic lens and then cut the gauge hole in those circles and then covered it with a somewhat matching material and glued it all together!.. I'll have pics up tonight of what my install turned out like...

I'm still missing one gauge up top and just have a filler panel in.

I like using the easy quick splices for wiring as they seem to work just great and are easy/quick. May not be the "Accepted" way, but it works and has lasted for me before so, I'm good to go.

I can't comment on the fuel gauge, as I run an aftermarket cell with a different sender, but I think it's nothing that a good search couldn't find - Just have to figure out the ohm range of the stock sender and find a guage that reads that range. (my fuel cell is 0-90 ohm, but I'm sure the Z is different).
